How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

Hi all

My surgery was on Nov 6th and i'm doing ok today. After coming home from the hospital i was having terrible pains in my left shoulder and neck. i was feeling very nauseas and really didn't feel like eating. Yesterday, i spent the day out doing errands etc. and am feeling better. For awhile there, i was getting weepy and regretting that i had the surgery! I'm feeling better about it now, and reading what other people say helps a lot. I know that mostly everything will pass after time. :(

A lot of what you are saying is how I was feeling. I found out that the pain the shoulder and neck was the gas working its way up my body. I have had the regretful days as well. However, I know that this is exactly what I needed to change my life and no matter how frustrated I get I just have to remind myself of that. I went Christmas shopping today and did pretty well. I am looking forward to the next food phase.

The only issue that I am having is the gas pains.they hurt and gas x is not helping. I am going back to work tomorrow, I hope that goes ok, kinda hard to sit straight up still, port pain is getting better. Good luck to everyone!

Hello fellow Novembers! I had my surgery on Monday the 17th and according to my surgeon it went off "textbook perfect." Hooray! I impressed the nurses and other patients/family members with how quickly I was able to start walking and how much I did it, but my only thought was to walk as much as possible to help decrease the gas pains! =) Walking really does help me with that.

I stayed overnight and was released around 1:00 yesterday. It would have been a little sooner but I took a shower in my room and it didn't have a bench and apparently I overdid it because at the end I got very nauseous. Husband helped me to my chair and we called for some anti-nausea meds which they gave me quickly. By that time I had most of the nausea under control but I was glad to have the meds for the ride home, just in case!

I had husband fill my prescription for Stadol yesterday, but so far I haven't had to touch it. Regular old liquid Tylenol seems to be doing the trick quite well. The main problem I have besides the gas pains is coughing--which hurts like heck. I've been trying to cough as "softly" as possible and so far it's helping a little bit.

Hope that everyone else has a safe and healthy surgery!

It's so nice to see people reporting in well after surgery! Hooray for our new life! :tongue2:

PS - Kaitiana, you've got to tell me when your book comes out. Is it fiction? What genre? I'd love to read it! :rolleyes2:

Was banded on the 10th. Went back to work on the 13th and am doing really well. Granted I am sick and tired of creamy Soups but oh well....doctor's orders. I am super excited...I have lost 21 pounds total. Only 4 of those were lost the week before surgery. Good Luck to everyone!

PS..My ticker is not correct but I am at work and can't update at this point.

Kasey, try keeping a pillow next to you, and when you have to cough, place the pillow on your tummy, apply a little pressure or bend forward, and then cough. It should help you get a fuller cough without so much pain. Just a little trick I learned when I had my hysterectomy years ago. Hope it helps, cause you need to keep those lungs clear. :rolleyes2:

Hey everyone!

I was banded yesterday on Nov, 18th. Everything went well. I am doing good. Dealing with lots of gas pain too! Just walking and trying to help it get out!!! Can't seem to burp for anything! Hopefully my GasX strips starts to help with the pain and bloating. The heating pad does work on my chest and shoulders for the pain, otherwise I am doing pretty good!

Thanks to you all! Good to all!

Hi all,

I had my surgery on the morning of Nov. 12th and it went really well. My Dr. gave me a prescription for a scopolamine patch that I put on the night before, so no queasiness in recovery. I was up and walking that afternoon, and I was thrilled when they told me I could have cream of wheat with splenda and milk on it. What a treat. I am feeling great and had very little pain. I am taking Tylenol, but I would be taking that anyway for arthritis pain.

After the anathesia wore off, I had some back pain, but the nurses said it might be from the table in the surgery. Evidently they inflated something under my back to arch my stomach up to make it easier to operate.

I was on Optfast for two weeks pre-op and am on it again for two weeks post-op. Then one week of pureed meals, one week of very soft foods and then for the next month or two semi-soft foods.

I am very happy that I decided to go with the band versus RNY, and I'm looking forward to more info from this web site.

Lesley

I was banded friday the 14th and I still have gas pains really bad and I cant burp either. The gas x strips did not work for me. I went and bought the chewable tablets today. I seem to be passing the gas better with the tablets. Maybe this will help you as well.

I was banded on Monday, November 10th. Was on liquids and yogurt, clear Soup two weeks before and Clear Liquids, clear soup and protien drinks since the day after surgery.

The shakes are ok, but I liked them better when I could blend them with ice. I have had popsicles, but am afraid to drink cold Water, how long before you can drink cold stuff? I see the dietician on Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving, I will be on soft food for Thanksgiving!!!

Hi everyone. I was banded on November 6 and everything went off without a hitch. I went home that night, took the weekend to recuperate, and was back at work on Monday. I haven't had any gas or any real pain or nausea or vomiting, although I have been a little constipated. However, I don't feel any real restriction when I eat or drink. Is that normal? I ate a whole can of fat free refried Beans last night, which I know can't be good, but I was hungry and it didn't hurt so I kept going (which of course I regretted after). I'm eating all pureed and mushy food right now after 10 days of liquids and thin Soups. I lost 12 pounds via my preop diet and I've lost only 2 pounds since then. Is this normal? Is it possible I've stretched the pouch by accident? Or do I just need to wait until my first band fill to really get what this whole experience will be like? My starting weight was 212, I'm at 198 now, and I'd like to be 135. I'm a female, 38 years old, 5'6. Just curious if anyone has an opinion about why I'm feeling so little restriction? I'm feeling like I'm going to have to really 'diet' still to get where I want to go and feel a little disappointed so far.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
