Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

I don't post very often, but will now and than.

I do read everybodies post to keep up with how everyone is doing and new people that show up.

I agree with everyone about "we are not TOO old to be "banded". I was Banded 10-28-08 at 66 yrs. old. I'm doing very good. So far can eat just about anything, but just a lot less of it.

The hardest thing I'm fighting is: in the past I could eat anything at anytime & any amount; now I have a hard time telling my mind, "THAT's TOO MUCH" and cut the amount way down; but it's slowly sinking into my mind the amount that I have to eat now, not what I ate in the past. That's where the "BAND" comes into play. I'll get there.

I'm down 24 lbs now, slow but sure. Getting better day by day.

If this is what you want, don't let anyone talk you out of it and don't let YOURSELF talk you out of it. With your Doctors OK, go for it. My Family Doc was all for it.

I see DR. Cleveland 12-18 for my 2nd post op appt. and "might" get my first FILL. Not sure yet. I think I need one.

Until next time,

Don

MollyJo - i do have a Dr.Apt. 12-29-08 and i'm trying to decide if i want to wait until that date comes or call for one sooner ?? i tell you these bands are funny and very hard to try and read or understand. just when you think you are learning your band it changes. before i did'nt think i had good restriction and then all of a sudden something weird happen. i had a Protein Shake for my morning break @ 8am(like i have before) and to my surprise it kept me full( as a tick) all through out that day pass lunch (11:30) until that afternoon around 5pm. i have had Protein Shakes before, just about every two days and it has never kept me that full that long. even when i tried to drink after that i remained full off of liquid. i've also noticed that i'm not hungry in the morning time like i use to be and don't get hungry until around noon.. so right now i'm confused and thinking about waiting until 12-29 (my next scheduled apt.)to ask for another fill. it'll give me time to let this band go through it's motions and changes and give me time to understand them before i cry "Fill" again.

Keep up the good work everybody, we'll get it together soon.

Morning Folks...OK..putting exercise into my day is harder than I thought. If I worked out as many as times as I thought about going to the gym...I would have no problem. I did Yoga for 30 minutes Friday. That's about it.

I wouldn't feel guilty bout wanting a fill. Like everyone said, everyone is different.

My mind was hard to keep under control this week. I ate way too many carbs. i'm up 2lbs. Today I'm trying to manage myself.

This is hard. :)

We had lay offs Friday at work. I think eating is my way of dealing with the stress. I still have my job and probably won't loose it, but it is still stressful.

GottaBThin - it's okay we all struggle and hit hurdles everyday. it's not easy at all, you just have to pick back up and start over the next day:smile2:. and exercising is not easy either it's hard getting motivated :bored:some time, you have to focus on something and pull it from deep down. thinking about having lose skin usually gets me out the house:blink: and on my way, and music with a nice beat is a must:cool2: ! and eating right and fighting the mental is a problem for me almost daily as well, i don't think you're the only one who wants a fill because you don't have mental control :blushing: i'm one of those also !! i had a large honeybun full of sugar, carbs, and calories yesterday and then went to the gym to try and redeem myself but only did 20min on the treadmill. so yes i feel guilty also, if we had mental control we would'nt of needed the band in the first place. it's a learning process that will get better with time. "Time Ease All Things":smile2:

Hi, everyone! I feel like some of the other banders out there...I don't understand my band. I was banded on 13 Oct and have been doing okay as far as weight loss. I had my first fill two weeks ago and I can't figure out if it has made a difference. Sometimes I feel no restriction at all but I make myself focus on how I feel so I don't keep eating past my "satisfied" level. Then sometimes I have a hard time taking more than a few bites - I feel like the food is still in my throat. Any comments?

We were banded the same day! I am about to have my second fill Friday and I have the same problem. Some days I could keep eating and eating if I wanted to. Other days, like yesterday at lunch I could barely keep anything down. As many on here say, the band is fickle and hard to understand sometimes. I guess we just have to keep strong and adjust accordingly! Good luck to you.

I don't get it either.. I was ok before eating small amounts i just wasn't losing weight, i got my fill last Friday and have pb's a couple of times already. I really didn't have all that much to eat, so i am really confused... now when i eat food hurts my throat and feels like it is stuck there .... so i have to put down the fork and wait until it moves....sometimes i get up and walk around that helps...but i am confused too! I am just wondering how much i should be eating now.??? a 1/2 cup? I know I am still eating with my eyes instead of my common sense.. LOL

You guys are all doing great keep up the good work!!!

Good question. I haven't felt much restriction since my fill on Dec 1 until tonight! I was eating Breakfast for dinner and had an episode at a restaurant. It was interesting.

I was filled on Dec. 5th and today is the second day I have had a dimmed appetite. I have noticed that I can keep eating, but if I stop after about half of what I would usually eat my hunger is gone and it stays gone.

So what I think I have to work on now is not eating until I am full, but eating the appropiate amount.

Wow...that might be one the hardest lessons yet!

I haven't written much lately but I have been following everyones messages. It is so nice to know that I'm not the only one that feels like eating a horse one day and a grape the next. It is so weird. I go for my second fill today. I hope this gets me on a more even track.

Hi all,

Just joined the site recently. Was glad to finally find some others who were banded in October. I had my surgery on October 2nd.

Just had 2nd fill On Dec 16th. Up to 6 cc in 14 cc band. No much restriction before 2nd fill, hoping this one will help.

Down 20.3lbs as of yesterday.

Slow process. Sometimes difficult to stay motivated on realize the weight will come off in time.

Look forward to getting to know others on here for support

Hello all my October Bandster Friends!!!!

Thanks a million Tyme2getrite!!!! This is definitely a journey. I thank God for this site. It helps so much to have people that totally understand where I'm at mentally and physically.

So I did do 30 minutes this morning. 10 min squat program, 10 minute abs, 10 on arms and push ups.

I felt better afterward just because I did SOMETHING.

I need to start paying attention to what I'm eating and doing the right thing. I am so focused on the scale, if I gain I think the band isn't working and it's the bands fault. No, Susie, you just ate pizza yesterday...hello!

So I made it down to 213.8 and back up to 216.4..I'm stressing. I ate carbs last week for the first time continuously since my surgery and now am trying to break myself of them all over again.

I CAN DO IT!!!

WE CAN DO IT!!!

ps....hello sickntired...how is everything going?

Hi all,

Just joined the site recently. Was glad to finally find some others who were banded in October. I had my surgery on October 2nd.

Welcome adoptmom2_3. Make sure you check out the whole site - there are lots of great people with great advice all over the place.

Other than struggling with being cold all the time  (insert blue smilie cuz there are no freezing ones), I'm doing quite well. I'm surprised at how well I like going to the gym and am feeling less conspicuous in amongst the skinny folks - I've added jogging on the treadmill, can really move on the elliptical, and can actually act like I know what I'm doing on the weight machines.

We had a potluck lunch today. One of the people who left us in September came back (his wife still works here) - I ran into him at the door and the first words out of his mouth were "Wow, you look great!" It's nice to hear sometimes.

Take care all.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
