Banded 5/7 anyone else out there close to me?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, seems there are quite a few of us May Bandsters! I am feeling better today, not as sore and ready to take on the Protein Drinks today. I was starting to notice yesterday the hunger feelings coming back and find myself reminding me that the Band is a tool to help us, we still have a lot of hard work to do to get where we want to be. I did take someones advice and went out with my son for a little bit we ran through the Chinese Take Out and I got some Won Ton Soup and Egg Drop Soup. It was ok, but not as great as I thought it might be. Oh, well, a 1/2 cup and I was full and satisfied for quite a while. I have not talked to my friend this morning yet, but will keep you all updated. Thanks again for all the info and support.

I was banded on 5/9. Finally, finally able to say WAS banded instead of will be banded! I don't have much pain really, just loads of gas that is really uncomfortable! Gas-X helps lots. I couldn't find the strips, so I'm using the chewables. I didn't get any pain meds in the hospital because I can't take codeine, so I got plain tylenol. Did nothing for the pain I did have. ONe of the bigger problems I have is that the highest incision is right in the bra line - it's not comfortable at ALL!

I can really see that each doc is different because mine is asking for 2 wks Clear liquids, then 2 or 3 full liquids and then mushies. It was hard yesterday to watch my family enjoying food while I sipped my broth! I'm hungry, but not hungry! I can't explain that either! It's hard to tell when I'm "full" or just gassy... ugh! I'm trying hard to get in the 96 oz of liquids they'd like me to do, but it's hard to do.

I'm just so glad to finally have my band!!!!!! And I have to update my ticker, because I've lost 20 lbs now!

:confused:HI, I had the surgery on the same day. I feel super full and have no desire to drink. I also am feeling a little depression. Kinda like "Oh my God what have I done" I just want everything to be back to normal. I feel unmotivated and disconnected. Do you have any of these feelings. I am going to support group tonght. Maybe that will inspire me.

I was really feeling like there was something really wrong with me yesterday and this am until I talked to my surgeons PA and she told me something that really helped. Said put the liquid in a shot glass and that is how much you are to drink in no less than 5 minutes. We are to drink liquids this close to surgery constantly. She said we have to stay hydrated and that is the only way to do it. Said the Protein shakes every liquid counts towards that 48 oz we are to drink this first 2 weeks.

Also said the walking I was doing helps with the gas. I thought my stomach growling was hunger, sounds like some of you do to. Really it's the gas and yes the gas ex helps.

That was the fullness I was feeling in my chest between my breasts apparently. Feeling full now is completely different from what we felt before. Very strange feeling now. Cravings are pretty bad for me....anyone else?

Hi Missie,

I was banded 5/7 also. I was clear liquid pre-op for 10 days. After surgery I ate clear for first 2 days then added yogurt, cottage cheese in very small portions, perhaps 1/4 cup. I ate a scrambled egg for Breakfast both yesterday and today and had a pureed Soup for lunch and dinner. I have had no trouble so far! How about you?

Hey! I was banded on 5/7. I too am kinda feeling disconnected, but I think it's because I am spending so much time on trying to figure this all out. Am I getting enough Protein? Should I drink now? Being a teacher, wife, and mom, I usually don't spend this much time thinking about what I will eat. It's usually about everyone else. It is getting better and I am determined to be successful. It's just a new way of life to learn.

Way to go!!!!

I had my surgery the same day 5/9/08. My incisions are really well healed. I heard that Vitamin E was a good thing to massage in or Mederma so I think I'll start next week. I am still on full liquids for the next 5-6 days. I'm doing Protein shakes, milk, creamed Soups, pudding, juice. I really don't crave anything. Next week I can start scrambled eggs and mushy things like mashed potatoes. Can't wait! I'm down about 12 pounds since the beginning of the process. I'm glad to hear about all the great success stories.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
