Recommended Posts

GOODLUCK Scarlet!! Keep us posted.

Oregon glad you are doing well.I wish I took notes of my progress, because I can't remember the swelling or tender port. I felt good after a couple days and went back to work. you will do fine!

miss meliss You are doing great! the clothes will get loose soon. How are you doing with your eating?

bandfan Your tickler says 20 more days, that is why I was not sure you had the band yet, I did not go back on the thread to know. Your weight is where I started at too, just above 80 lbs. I am happy to have lost almost 50, but 80 would make me happier!

Hello Forthysomethings,

I am 41 and have been banded four years now. I can honestly say this is the best life decision I have ever made for myself.

I hope each one of you have an amazing band journey!!

Start weight 246

Todays weight 166

Goal weight 146

The last twenty are the hardest to lose "UGH"

Actually my swelling has gone done a lot in the past couple of days. Infact, I would say it was gone except that shaving my left (prot side) leg is still a challenge compared to my right.

I know (from all the previous failed dieting) that when you lose fast sometimes it takes your body a while to catch up. This being said..... I told my husband to get use to seeing this, I was able to take off my pants without unbuttoning or unzipping. And of course I proved it!

Meliss that happened to me last week. I have been wearing a pair of jeans, Gap size 16, and they pulled right off. I also tossed a pair of black jeans from Old Navy, size 14. I can't fit into a 12, but some brands fit different. I would love to be in a 12!! GREAT for you too!!!

Cher...wow you are doing great... I am so stuck losing my last 30lbs. I really get frustrated. I also know that I have not been exercising the way I should at age 49! the weight will not come off with eating changes alone...why can't I get that. ?? I think after one year I am in a slump and need a kick in the a--!!!

Thanks Janine!!

I am working out anywhere from 3-6 days a week. Some weeks I do better than others.

If this surgery had only been around in my twenties I would be at goal

It sounds like everyone is doing great. It does seem as we get a bit older, it becomes more of a challenge to lose weight, even with the band. I went a whole year where I didn't lose anything, and, sigh, I must admit, actually gained back half of what I lost due to several problems. Fortunately, everything has been fixed, I have good restriction, am working out at a gym and back to losing 1-2 pounds a week.

Hi,

I just turned 44 and was wondering if this is an open group. I was banded 3/15 and am looking for a support group.I live in Tucson and haven't found anything local so far.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate hearing from someone who has been banded for a long while. I realize that alot of folks move on and don't stay active on this site but for us newbies it is good to hear from someone who has been so successful over a number of years. It helps me to be patient. I have had to have my band tightened twice this month so that I can finally see some progress (Banded 3/15). I was wondering if at the beginning you had trouble in the morning. I have trouble even with warm liquids first thing in the morning. I have only been at the proper restriction for 3 days but I noticed right away that first thing in the morning not even Water wants to go down. It is all worth it though because now I am finally seeing some progress. I lost my first 15 pounds in the first 4 weeks and the past 6 weeks I had only a pound or two and in the last 3 days I've lost as much as in the past 6 weeks!!

Hi fabulous forties! I have been greatly encouraged by all your posts. I'm 44 and have had my band for 2 months. I know that there is a long journey ahead of me and I'm just trying to figure out how to make the band work for me. I live in Roasarito Beach although I state San Diego as my hometown because that's where I was raised and have lived for most of my life. I have six children 26, 24, 22, 17, 11 and 7, three grandchildren 3, 18 mos. and 7 mos. I've been happily married for 27 years. My husband and family are very supportive of the lap-band. I know I have my hands full with three children still in the home and living in another country doesn't make it any easier. But here I am trying to make the best of it.

welcome coppercorrie you sound like you have good restriction. I never had the morning tightness in that way, but many do. I seem to have more of an issue with dinner. But that may be due to the types of food you eat at dinner vs the other two meals. I have 8.5 or 8.75 in my band after maybe 4/5 fills. I am coming up on my one year. I think this is the sweet spot that everyone talks about. I can feel Water go down if I drink it to fast. I can't eat many foods, but I relate that more to me not eating correctly. I think for me this is the hardest habit to break, eating to fast and not chewing!

acstllns you are busy! hang in there and it will be great. I get frustrated sometiems that the wieght hasn't dropped off as quickly as others, but I know that is due to me not exercising enough and eating poor choices. For even with the band, you can make bad food choices or snack. I have two grand children, ages 2 and 1 month. I am holding my grandson in the photo.

well, have a great week, talk to you all soon.

Hello everyone-

Good to meet you all. I was banded last month and have started my final weight loss journey. No more Jenny Craig, Michael Thurman, Weight Watchers, or everyother gimic that promised to make me healthy again.

I'm melting.....

I have never had a problem with liquids going down at any time of the day. I have to say, I don't know if I want quite that much restriction at any time of the day!

Glad to hear things are turning around for you. It is much easier to stay on track when you are seeing progress on the scale. Keep up the good work.

Hi Kim,

I think, like you, that this has to be my final weight loss journey. I have been very happy every day that I chose the band. I have lost 62 pounds since my surgery on Jan 3.

Good luck on your journey.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
