Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

Recommended Posts

Happy Mothers Day!!!

I was searching around the threads and found the Fabulous 40's and had to check it out!!

I was banded almost a year ago and agree with the discussion regarding the weight loss journey! I have to remind myself that I am almost 50lbs less than pre band and I will reach my GOAL!! when that majic age of 40 hits, it really does make the weight loss slow, so we are hit with two challenges, but we CAN DO IT!!

bandfan How are you doing? what have you been able to eat since surgery?

Steph C... congrats on your weight loss!! Did you have a Tummy Tuck? that is great, how did it go??

Best wishes to all that are joining Band land this week, you will love it!

Thank you bandfan1 for the encourament. I go to the surgeon today and hopefully get a date. Glad to hear you have minimal discomfort. I am hoping I don't have to go back to work so soon. So far the surgeon said 6-8 wks out. I don't want to go back until I have a fill and see how I handle it. If I get sick, my employer wouldn't be too understanding.

oregonrose GOOOOOOOOOD Luck!!! Let us know how you are doing. You will be fine to return to work by then...I agree get up and walk, even to the door and back will be a start!

Hope all you are doing well. I have a question for you all... how do you count food you eat when it is only a bite or two? there are times I will begin to eat and decide it won't work and give up. how do you count them into your daily limit?

As far as measuring food, I would divide it to however much you think you ate. For example, if you only ate 1 bite of tuna fish, figure out how much of the can you ate. It may be only 1/10th. There are 2 servings per can of tuna fish, so divide the serving size by whatever you think you ate.

If there are 7g of Protein in 1/2 can, then you probably ate about 2grams....Do you follow me??

I think the best you can do is guestimate something...it's better than nothing!!!

bandfan..thanks for the suggestion, I realize I could do that, but that is work!! Yesterday I was out all day doing stuff and did not eat. So I went to McDonalds for an ice coffee( I love them, half the cream!) and extra ice, and they asked me if I wanted a FREE southern chicken sandwich, I took it thinking it would never go down and give it to my dh later, but I tried to eat it, just the chicken, and the grease of course helped it go down. I only ate half. So, not the most healthy pick, but Protein finally!

Have a great Friday!

Janine: You don't even look like you are carrying that much weight from your photo!! Where are you hiding it? Is that your baby? How precious!!!

bandfan thank you for the kind words. I am holding my grandson, born April 20! the photo turned out to be a good one, which does not happen often. I tried to post it under my name on the side, but can't seem to fix it. I don't know, for I am still stuck at 189. I can't seem to budge the scale down! I am 5'7" and I guess it is stretched out! But believe me it is there!

when is your date? are you getting excited?

I was banded on May 1st!! I have lost 16lbs and feel great!!! The surgery was a breeze and I am now concentrating on getting the Water in and eating 60oz of Protein per day..... So far no problems. I go for a fill in less than 2 weeks!!!

I am already off my diabetes meds and couldn't be happier!!!

HI All, Thanks for the good thoughts, I was banded on Thursday at 2:30 and was on my way home by 7:30. Kind of a tough night but the next day was fine and today is fine, too. Love that liquid Oxycontin! makes me sleepy, tho. Incisions done hurt, the area under my right breast hurts - I assume that is where the actual band is - cant figure out where the port is yet, Family has been wonderful, DH brings me Water and Protein drinks., had a lemon yogurt this morning. walking is fine, thinking I will be fine to go back to work on Tuesday. will keep you posted as to progress, n

Hi Oregonrose, glad to hear you are recovering well. Actually, the area under your breast that is hurting is probably your port. You usually do not feel much pain from the band itself. The port area is what is usually the most tender after banding. It will get better though. Congrats on being an official bandster.

At what point did your swelling decrease around your port. I am at day 7 and I not impatient...yet, but, I do wonder when I will be able to bend to my left (port side). Also I have lost over 20pounds since I started my pre-op diet (very exciting!) and I want to feel the difference in my clothes. I imagine I will have to wait till the swelling goes down.

Bandfan! That is great about your diabets!! I am diabetic and I take blood pressure medicine. This was the greatest motivator in getting the band. My weight didn't slow me down or cause problems until my mid 40's!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
