  1. 1. How full is/was your 10cc band at 'sweet spot'

Recommended Posts

I have 5.5cc's in a 10cc band. I have had 4 fills and 1 unfill. At surgery I had 3 cc's and I had my first fill 6 weeks post-op 1cc. 2 weeks after that I had another 1cc added, 2 weeks after that .5cc and a week after that 1cc. For a total of 6cc's (.5cc leaked between day one and week 6). After two weeks of being at 6cc's I had to have .5cc taken out, I was really really tight. Could not keep anything down including fluids. I feel now that I have the restriction that I need, not at the "sweet spot" but I am slowly getting there. I am 4 months post op and I have lost 34lbs. I know it's a slow-go but this time I will keep off the weight.

One day I'm ok and the next I'm really hungry. Obviously not at my sweet spot. Hopefully soon.

I am currently 8.5cc in a 10cc band. I am definitely not at my sweet spot. I go for another fill next week and am hoping that's the one. With 8.5cc I am not hungry but can still eat whatever I want and way too much of it. Occasionally I get stuck but that's only if I eat too fast. For the record, I am not eating anywhere near as much as I was pre band but I am amazed at how much I can eat for a banded person.

What a huge difference if you look at the poll as to how many CC's it takes each person to gethere. Really never can tell till you get the fills that's for sure.

i've gone from 8.5 (too tight) to 7.2ccs' with 2 unfills in the last 2+ wks. food just became such a chore, wasn't getting enough calories & the scale was up / down the same 3lbs for over a month. since the unfills i've lost 7lbs & can eat all the foods that were giving me a hard time: solid proteins/salads/some whole grains - etc. this has been such trial & error finding the 'right' spot to eat properly & loose, think this fill level might be just the right thing for me:tongue:, at least i hope:rolleyes:.

When I first started getting fills I was obsessed with my "Sweet Spot". But now that I now what it feels like to get everything stuck and pb... I'm more concerned that I don't get filled too tight. I've learned to not be so aggressive with my fills and instead to make better choices in what I eat. My band is just a VERY helpful tool, I have to do the majority of the work myself! I love my band... but it doesn't love me when it's toooooo tight. :rolleyes2:

I have had 2 fills and now have 4cc in a 10cc band. I'm not at my sweet spot but definitely have restricton now. I actually get satisfied eating a "normal" meal! I still eat quite a bit so I know I'm going to need further adjustments. But that's OK. As long as I'm losing weight I'm not going to stress or get a fill. As I slowly lose weight, my head is adjusting to this change, too! It is a great feeling to not be hungry all the time anymore.

I had fill #4 since this past February and I am still chasing that elusive 'sweet spot' I am beginning to wonder if it really exist. I called my doctor's office to set up an appointment for another fill (currently I have 5cc's in a 10cc band) My weight has been stuck at this same spot for months now :) the thing is the inches are coming off but the scale won't move (darn it)

I just had my third fill last week (Aug. 27th). I went from 5 ccs to 6 ccs in a 10 cc band. Until this last fill I thought something was wrong because I was feeling very little restriction and had been gaining weight. However, with that last fill I think I may be at my sweet spot. At first I could barely drink Water and got deathly sick after taking three sips of Soup. I called the Dr's office and they said to just drink Clear Liquids the rest of the day. By the next morning I was Ok...but I can only eat very small amounts of food. And I have lost 2 lbs since the latest fill. Hopefully, this continues.

Hi!

I was banded in Everett on Aug. 9th. and just had my first fill and now am at 5 cc's and don't feel much restriction. I'm starting to feel like this isn't going to work. I started at 223lbs and have lost 10 lbs but haven't lost anything ina couple of weeks. How did your weight loss go? How fast did you lose?

I know you must be frustrated. I am in a similar boat. I am 5'11 . Before I even looked into lapband I was 310 lbs. I had lost 15 lbs so when I went to my first appointment I was 295. Then, the doctor put me on Optifast and over a 5 week period I lost an additional 21 lbs which put me to 274. I had my surgery on 1/23/08. And now I am 272. If I counted all the weight I gained and relost since my surgery it's probably about 50 more lbs. I had so many fills but typically only kept my restriction for a week or so. Two days ago, I had another fill bringing me to 9 cc's in a 10 cc band. Dr. Fill  told me that he thinks this will be the one. So far I'm still on liquids for the rest of this day so we shall see. I think you just need to keep getting fills until you get to the spot that stays.

I am very new to this banding thing. I have only had my band for 1 week. What do you mean by reaching your sweet spot? What exactly is that?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
