Whosya...You Run A LOT!! Good lord--you're an inspiration to us all!

My update is this:

-I skipped week 2, day 3 for logistical reasons.

-Since I'm running OUTSIDE with a coworker, and not at the gym, I'm starting week 3 today and it's gonna be 95 degrees!

-I got new shoes! I'm super-excited about them and am pretty pumped about runnning today!

Welllllll...I didn't run yesterday--holiday and all. I'm starting week 4 today--5 minute run, here I come! It's definitely hot, but if I just keep going, I will "condition" myself to be in the heat. At least, I hope that's true!

59 sounds AWESOME. it's 95 - hot / humid & now raining :smile2:

stranger you rock doing this outside ; not sure i could handle the outdoor running. i have been running 2mile "run's" w/my trainer wkly & he wants to bump that up to 4miles :scared2:. i told him to compromise w/3 & he came back with 3 plus sprint drills. UGH - not LOVING the running at the moment ; today was painful!!! but i did get a leg rub down from him afterwards:tongue2:

hope everyone had a good long wkend!!

Mmmmmmm.....leg rub-downs from hot, sexy trainers!!! I'll do sprint drills for that ANY day!

Goodness Gracious, that 5 minute run was HELLACIOUS in the 100 degree heat!!! The second 5 minute run was just about impossible for me--but I made it!

I reluctantly reminded myself that the end of week 5 has that 20 minute run...YIKES!

Me too Stranger, where do we get to sign up for that? It sure beats the hell out of the Podcasts -- huh?

Stranger, WAY TO GO!!!!:frown: Wow!!! Major, major kudos to you for training in those conditions.

Tonight will be my first 5 minute run, but I do it in the early evening, and the temps aren't nearly as bad here, it's just the summer humidity that can get to you sometimes.

i think that is the least he could have done - because i can not walk this morning. my legs are jelly & can barely hold myself up - trying to use the bathroom requires a bit of squatting and i have NOTHING left....LOL

toying with either running or elliptical to get the kinks out - for sure another glass of coffee while i ponder...

good luck w/your run tonight -

ps - i did wk 5 for 3wks if i remeber correctly:)

Okay Guys,

I am both pleased and bewildered -- let me explain........

I did session one of week four which I figured would be the most challenging yet BUT it turned out to be one of the easiest sessions for me (including comparing it to week one).

How can that be? Did I do something wrong? My only concern is that I somehow unconsciously, drastically altered my stride to make it easier on myself, but then again I was running on a track, and I ran the same distance on the three minute interval as I did last week.

Has anyone else had this happen, where one of the harder sessions actually turns out to be a little easier than the week before? Weird -- huh?

Daddy, LOL :lol::lol:! Thanks for the offer, and you might want to wait until the dead of winter to do this -- so it will truly be a "win-win" situation.

Thanks for the encouragement too -- you have been a huge help as well as a true inspiration :biggrin:!

Stranger, Yes!!! You did tell me all of this!!!! And honestly I didn't believe you :wink2:!

But now I do!!!

Thanks for confirming that I wasn't imagining this -- although I'm not going to get complacent, because last week Day 3 was my hardest day, by far...........

You rock C to 5K buddies -- and thanks for all the encouragement!!! You're going to make a runner out of me yet!

Hey why don't you guys come down to St. John next year for the 8 Tuff Miles event. Wouldn't that be fun????

Holy Moly....8 Tuff Miles! That certainly LOOKS Tuff!!! Something tells me I won't be joining that crowd!

On the other hand....I guess anything could change between now and 2009!!

Stranger, the people who run it tell me it's really, really TUFF, hence the name. They tell me that it's a lot more challenging than many longer races, in part because of the 1000 foot elevation gain on the course.

BUT a lot of people walk it too, and fun is had by all. It's a gorgeous setting and there are huge crowds of spectators to cheer the (huge crowd of) participants on.

I truly doubt I will run it. I like challenges, but that's just way too, well.....Tuff.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
