Let's Collect Some Data!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so there are lots of posts out there about concerns about speed of weight loss, amount of weight loss, how much is too much weight lost, how much is too little, etc. etc.

The same responses inevitably come back, about how we are all different, we lose at our own rates, genetics, starting weight, height, gender, age are all factors, don't compare, etc. etc.

But the reality is that no one really cares about the reasons for the differences, we all seem to just wanna see the NUMBERS. And then compare them to our own. Le Sigh.

Sooooo....being a one who personally LOVES numbers and data and spreadsheets, I thought I would start a little project. I want to collect stats from any willing members and i will compile the data into a lovely spreadsheet and graph(s) organized by certain variables.

Doesn't that sound like fun???? 😂😂😂😂

So, for FUNSIES, send me the following info (if you are willing!), and i after i collect a good-enough sized sample (say at least 100?), I'll do my thing. It may take a week, a month a year, depending on how many people participate.

1. Basics: GENDER, AGE, HEIGHT

2. Total Weight lost in the 6 months BEFORE surgery (if any)

3. Weight on DAY OF SURGERY.

4. Weight at 1 MONTH POST surgery

5. Weight at 3 MONTHs POST surgery

6. Weight at 6 MONTHs POST surgery

7. Weight at 12 MONTHs POST surgery

* the final report will have names/usernames removed in an effort to a bit of privacy :) if you don't want to reply to the thread with the info, feel free to DM me :)

** of course this will not be in any way some definitive scientific report!

Female 47 at time of surgery 5ft 5.5 inches. Lost 5 lbs in 2 week pre surgery diet. 232.2 on surgery day. 206.2 after 1 month, 190.1 at 3 months. 171.5 at 6 months and I'm not to a year yet but this month was 9 months and I was 159.2. That was actually fun to look up those stats and see my progress like that. Take care!

If you're not familiar with the Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collective, you should definitely check it out. They have an extensive database of bariatric surgery patients, and there's a calculator that shows average outcomes based on the data.

https://mbsc.arbormetrix.com/Registry/public/calculator/uiCalculator/7?menuId=1013

My info:

1. Basics: GENDER, AGE, HEIGHT - female, 39 (at time of surgery), 5'3"

2. Total Weight lost in the 6 months BEFORE surgery (if any) - 64 pounds

3. Weight on DAY OF SURGERY. - 277 pounds

4. Weight at 1 MONTH POST surgery - 256 pounds

5. Weight at 3 MONTHs POST surgery - 225 pounds

6. Weight at 6 MONTHs POST surgery - 181 pounds

You & your spreadsheets @ms.sss 😁. I’ll convert metric to imperial for our non Enlightened neighbours. 😉

Hopefully it will help people understand you can’t directly compare & it may reduce the anxiety & fear of failing some have to see the range & variety of results. But yes some do fixate on the numbers and don’t use them only as a general idea of what they might experience not will experience. It’s why I ended up giving my stats to that recent thread to show there was more than two stone difference in weight loss across us at the same time frame.

  1. F - 53 (2months off 54) - 5’3”
  2. 11lbs
  3. 189lbs
  4. 171lbs
  5. 153lbs
  6. 132lbs
  7. 111lbs

I’ll add stabilised at 108lbs at 17 months & 109 at 4 yrs out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
