learn2cook got a reaction from Renee5612 in Severe Gerd and ulcers after gastric bypassOh I am so sorry you are dealing with that now! I am pre-surgery and have problems with GERD and ulcers, so my hope is the bypass. The liquid meds that coat your esophagus helped me, and the Prilosec. I easily gave up tomatoes, citrus, and severely cut down coffee. I’m already lactose intolerant so avoid milk and hidden milk like the plague. That can make you vomit/GERD too. I wish you the best. -
learn2cook got a reaction from reggaeman in Back into fitnessWelcome, welcome, welcome! I think I already saw you on other posts on here. Yes, generally this is a very positive place. We’re all working hard on our goals towards good health. And yes our goals are unique to each individual but it’s nice to encourage each other. I hope you feel encouraged too! -
learn2cook got a reaction from ShoppGirl in Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win???This is huge! What a great accomplishment getting through chemo, and then still working towards good health. When you’re not tired you’ve got to be proud of yourself, so we’ll done you! -
learn2cook got a reaction from PWJ2025 in Hi. I’m new here. :)Congratulations on your surgery and welcome to the forum. I felt cool or cold the whole first year, but in general I do run warm. Everyone is different so you will have your own way.
I had to learn to drink slower. Every once in a while I guzzle some water on a hot day…and I feel the pain. Drinking less water, but more often is normal for most of us, especially in the beginning. If you can’t get enough water in contact your surgery team. -

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, sorry guys, I’ve been pretty fatigued. But my recent win is that I was able to pause my weight loss against all that my brain was telling me and safely get through chemo and then pick up right where I left off. I have been done with chemo since 5/5 and now that I am allowed to lose again I have lost a bit more. I am down 99 pounds now!! I am technically a healthy weight and only one pound shy of my goal!!

It took me less than an hour after booking an appointment. And then I received my package in 4 days.

In just 5 months, I was no longer obese. Still overweight, yes but my relationship with food is now more balanced. My fasting bg was usually between 160-180 but now I’m within the ideal range most of the time. The side effects are all true and I was worried they were gonna get worse but after a month, my experience got milder. I sometimes still get diarrhea after 3-5 days of injecting but it’s so tame compared to the horror stories I read from people online.

I actually pay for my own now because my company changed insurance, and Ozempic wasn’t covered even though I have t2. So I get mine from slimvive and I pay $599 for 0.5mg. 0.25mg is $499 last I checked. Their Ozempic is legitimate and not like the compounds from Noom and Hims/Hers which aren’t reviewed by the FDA. It’s the cheapest real Ozempic I could find, which they give you as part of their fitness and health program.

For diabetes, my insurance paid for my GLP-1, but since surgery, I haven't had to take any insulin or any of my other diabetic meds, I'm in remission. Taking a GLP-1 for weight loss is short lived. Once you stop taking it, the hunger returns and your body will bounce back. That's my experience anyway.

Takes a while to get used to. I experienced lots of nausea at first, but since I only take it weekly it wasn’t too bad and I figured as long as I don’t overeat while I’m on it, the nausea is a lot more manageable. I have lost 80 pounds and my A1C has been between 5.8 to 6.3 over the last few tests.
I have PCOS too but my period is now regular.

learn2cook got a reaction from GreenTealael in 6 years post VSG to RNYYes yes yes happy surgiversary and birthday!!! You look great. I love hearing about maintenance. I hope you have a wonderful laughter filled time with your friends! -
learn2cook reacted to SecretAgentDD in Hi. I’m new here. :)Yes, early on my temperature regulation was WAY off. That adjusted for me within a few weeks. Be patient for these first few days. I started feeling semi-normal day five. My best tip is to keep moving! Walking and fluids were my only priorities outside of protein shakes and I swear to you that focus paid off for me. I walked multiple times per day, every single day. It helped give me focus and when I felt good… it was easier to treat myself with kindness and focus on recovery. Remember your “why” when it gets tough.

learn2cook reacted to WendyJane in Sore Throat, Blurry Vision & Upper Jaw Reverberations - Anyone Else?Congrats on the surgery.
I strongly urge you to bring your symptoms up to your team because I have never heard of such a thing.
As far as cravings, you have to remember that you can't unfortunately, and have a bit of willpower. I never had the strong cravings, but I do desire salty foods in my hot US state. I'm drinking a lot too, but do not desire food, I don't get the stomach growling. Sorry. Find a distraction for when those commercials come on, like get on your computer and check email. That craving is called Head Hunger. I recommend you look up Lora Grabow, she is really good with headwork, mindwork, and eating difficulty with bariatric patients. She has worked with us folks since 2003 and had a great following of patients. Or, you can see her in a group through BariNation.mn.co and see her several times a week in that community. Wishing you well.

learn2cook reacted to Arabesque in Sore Throat, Blurry Vision & Upper Jaw Reverberations - Anyone Else?Congrats on your surgery. As to your symptoms, I didn’t experience these nor can I recall anyone else here saying experiencing them. It’s not uncommon to have a sore throat or difficulty swallowing the first couple of days after surgery due to swelling from the air tube they insert during surgery.
You may have picked up a bug??? They may have put your jaw out during intubation??? Have you contacted your surgeon? I’d certainly do that.
A lot of the cravings you are feeling now are likely emotional cravings. The surgery is stressful and a lot of emotions can be stirred up (consciously or subconsciously consciously) and your brain tells you to eat to sooth and comfort yourself. Recognising why you may be craving a specific food, flavour or texture is an important learning. Of course understanding the why of it doesn’t stop the craving unfortunately. We always say the surgery changes the digestive system it doesn’t change of brain & thinking. We do get better at managing them but they are always there in some form or another.
Things that can help: Dustraction is a big one. Go for a walk as you are able, play a game, ring a friend or family member, check social media & this forum, read, etc. Sometimes a warm drink can help. If a chick-fil-A ad or other tempting food ads come on change the channel, switch the tv off or walk away for a minute or so.
All the best.

learn2cook got a reaction from WantingtoLoseIt in Not Losing - Please Tell Me There Is HopeI’m glad the pounds are starting to move off of you! Momentum helps so much with healthy habits. Keep asking questions and getting stuck in stalls (and life) is normal. -
learn2cook reacted to Arabesque in 6 month Surgiversary!Congratulations @DaisyChainOz. You’ve been doing so well. 20kgs is great and you shouldn’t be disappointed thinking it’s not enough. Remember we lose at the rate that’s right for us and that includes being right for our lifestyle & how we want to live our lives.
Remember too, your life was pretty stressful before your surgery with your mum’s passing, your husband’s diagnosis and treatment (hope his recovery is going smoothly). You have been carrying a heavy emotional and psychological load which makes your weight loss and your commitment an even greater achievement.
