Hi. I’m new here. :)

Hey Everyone,

I'm new here. :) Had VSG surgery on Friday, 7.18.25. To be honest, while I’m happy I went through with it, I’m def feeling pretty terrible right now. Every sip seems to be uncomfortable to borderline painful. I think that’s probably normal less than 48 hours out, but when do I turn the corner and start feeling better—and feeling like I can take a sip of water without feeling like I’m going to implode.

Also a random ask, but did anyone else feel really cold off and on? My temp has been steady between 97-99 so it’s not a fever, but I just feel so cold. I’m currently taking Tylenol and Zofran around the clock.

Please give me your best survival tips for these early days? Even if it’s just telling me to be patient and assuring me that I will feel a bit better with each passing day.

Thanks, y’all. So happy to have found this community!

Yes, early on my temperature regulation was WAY off. That adjusted for me within a few weeks. Be patient for these first few days. I started feeling semi-normal day five. My best tip is to keep moving! Walking and fluids were my only priorities outside of protein shakes and I swear to you that focus paid off for me. I walked multiple times per day, every single day. It helped give me focus and when I felt good… it was easier to treat myself with kindness and focus on recovery. Remember your “why” when it gets tough.

Congratulations on your surgery and welcome to the forum. I felt cool or cold the whole first year, but in general I do run warm. Everyone is different so you will have your own way.

I had to learn to drink slower. Every once in a while I guzzle some water on a hot day…and I feel the pain. Drinking less water, but more often is normal for most of us, especially in the beginning. If you can’t get enough water in contact your surgery team.

Welcome. The first week is probably the most difficult then you’ll slowly start to notice improvement. The gas pains are almost or all gone. The swelling in your throat from the intubation tube making it difficult to swallow goes. General pain and discomfort disappears too. Though don’t be surprised to have odd days you feel you’ve gone back a step or two. You’ve had pretty major surgery and it takes a good 6-8 weeks to heal & recover.

Best advice is to take it slowly. Don’t push yourself to do more than your body is ready for even if you think you should be doing this or feeling that so listen to your body. It does get better & easier.

Congratulations on your surgery.
