  1. Hi there. I just had the surgery on July 18 & wanted to share my experience. I walked a few hours post-op and then every few (daytime) hours after that. I am now pretty mobile although mornings are a little rough (dizziness, wooziness) and I do tire easily. But I’m walking now maybe 5-6x a day for 15 min at a clip and feeling pretty solid. Ice packs helped me tremendously. I heated my shoulder when the gas pain was a little rough post-op, but ice packs helped my incision pain sooooo much. I really only felt hunger the day before surgery (clear liquid diet). My kids ate deep dish pizza a few days post-op and it smelled good but it wasn’t a brutal craving or anything. Find post-op things that fit the requirements but also suit your tastes. I tried veggie broth and it sucked. I strained a veggie soup I love (using a super fine strainer) and boom, crisis adverted. Still a clear broth, but a much tastier one. Can’t speak to this because I’m only 12 days out. But walking feels really good, so I can attest to that. My advice is to listen very closely to your body. Follow all your surgeon’s instructions but rest when you need rest. Set timers to eat if you don’t remember the mini meals (a problem I never thought I’d have but here we are). Ask for help from those around you in the recovery process. I was so nervous I almost cancelled my surgery the day before but less than two weeks out…I’m so thankful I went through with it. Good luck! And feel free to message me anytime if you ever want to chat. :)
  2. Oh, awesome! Congratulations! 🥳 I just had my VSG surgery on July 18 so I’m reading the forum and sipping veggie broth as I type. So excited for everyone who is on this journey!
  3. @SecretAgentDD @learn2cook @Arabesque Thank you all so much! I appreciate all the insight/advice. One week out from my surgery and def feeling better. Getting my bearings back and trying to balance activity/rest. Grateful for the replies to my post; thanks again! :)
  4. Hey Everyone, I'm new here. Had VSG surgery on Friday, 7.18.25. To be honest, while I’m happy I went through with it, I’m def feeling pretty terrible right now. Every sip seems to be uncomfortable to borderline painful. I think that’s probably normal less than 48 hours out, but when do I turn the corner and start feeling better—and feeling like I can take a sip of water without feeling like I’m going to implode. Also a random ask, but did anyone else feel really cold off and on? My temp has been steady between 97-99 so it’s not a fever, but I just feel so cold. I’m currently taking Tylenol and Zofran around the clock. Please give me your best survival tips for these early days? Even if it’s just telling me to be patient and assuring me that I will feel a bit better with each passing day. Thanks, y’all. So happy to have found this community! -Cat
  5. I’m writing this from my hospital room after surgery yesterday. I was a WRECK the month before surgery, but I’m happy to report it honestly wasn’t terrible. Maybe not the most fun I’ve had, but I’m up and about, walking, eating jello & drinking water. Hopefully getting discharged today. My best suggestion is to keep your eyes on the prize. About a week ago, I was so anxious about surgery that I almost canceled. I pushed through and I’m so glad I did, even if I’m in a bit of pain rn. Also, follow all directions when you get into your room. Walking has helped me a lot. And be honest about your pain. They dosed me around the clock and it has really helped. Ice packs helped me too. Be super transparent about how you are feeling post-op & remember the drs & nurses are there to help you (this was an important lesson for me to learn because I hated the thought of bothering anyone). Youve got this! Hang in there ?
