I was never told to stop drinking coffee thankfully but for some reason I have begun drinking only 1 to 2 cups a day. I would have a cup of coffee by my side at all times beforehand.

My program only eliminated caffeine during the pre-op diet and 2 weeks post-op, but Decaf was allowed, so I just made the switch temporarily. I did wean myself off of Creamer and use half & half with a little sugar free Syrup now. I do drink way less than I did pre-op though, In the past, I would drink coffee much of the day, cut with Water occasionally. Now I really focus on my water after my morning cup of coffee.

I now use part of a Protein Shake as "creamer". I used to use real cream, but knew that would potentially be problematic post-surgery, so found the Protein shake works pretty well.

Personally I would think cutting out or reducing your caffeine intake pre surgery would be better then trying to do it when recovering from surgery which is stressful enough on our bodies, emotions & thinking.

I didn’t drink coffee. I drank Coke Zero and I gave it up months prior to surgery because I wanted to know I could do it. Post surgery I was offered coffee in the hospital though and told I was allowed caffeine in moderation. I eventually started the caffe latte Protein drinks that have caffeine by premiere Protein. I have one of those every morning now. Even still over a year out. Every surgeon is different though and some do not allow caffeine post surgery so double check with your team.

Ditto… Premier Protein Cafe Latte every morning! Even took them on my cruise. Not sure what I’ll do for my trip to Asia next year.

See if you can order Amazon to the hotel.

Great idea. I’ll have to see if they ship to Thailand. If not, I may try to pack enough in my checked bag, but worried it’ll weigh a ton.

They do make the powdered version but it tastes a little different to me.

Ah coffee, it really is a tough one. My team was pretty straightforward with this one. At my initial consult they strongly suggested weaning myself off of caffeine right away to only Decaf. But they preferred that I actually not have anything with caffeine pre-surgery since I wouldn't be able to have caffeine until 6 months post-op.

I did find an alternative, Pero, which was okay enough for a short time.

I'm 3 1/2 months post-op now and am allowed decaf a few days a week, but sometimes it still bothers my stomach.

I drink coffee all day every day and have since the month after I had surgery. It has not had any negative impact on me and I am not going to stop drinking coffee. I have complied with everything I was told to do but cutting out coffee is a bridge too far in my mind.

I am a week into my PreOP Diet and doing really well, 8 lbs. down so far... But I can't kick my coffee! 😫 I drink it black for the most part, sometimes I will put about a Tablespoon of my Protein Shake in it, so no excess sugar.

I don't have a sensitive stomach at all, so that is not an issue. has anyone else not give up the coffee?

I gave up coffee for about 2 weeks. I have had a small Starbucks Iced Coffee once post-op. I also drink iced coffee in the morning before work everyday, and I seem to be doing ok with it.

I suppose a low acid coffee might be good? Can check with your surgery team to see if you can stay on one of those?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
