Hello All!

I had surgery on March 5th. Everything has been going relatively well regarding eating, and I'm on soft food for two more weeks. I was just wondering if anyone can eat veggies yet? I would love a salad!

I was told not to eat raw veggies until 3 mos post op. I eat cooked veggies with no problem (bypass on March 3)

Hi All [emoji3059]

Hope you're all losing and feeling fantastic [emoji126][emoji1739][emoji16]. I'm struggling to eat at the moment and wondered if anyone had an tips on how I can improve things. I now hate the smell of meat, it makes me gag and after 3 tsp of food I quickly feel full, uncomfortable and sick. I have tried to go back a step and eat pureed/mashed food but the same thing happens. I am also still not regularly going to the toilet, it's probably once to twice a week and starts off normal but ends up as diarrhoea [emoji85]. I had me op 24th March so I'm 5 weeks out. How much food are you managing to eat in a day? I really appreciate any support [emoji3059].

I just had a gastric sleeve surgery two weeks ago. I am doing well. Of course, I am still on full liquids. I have had no problems but have had some diarrhea. I don’t know if this is normal at first. I sort of thought it might be. I hope things get better for you. Blessings.

I'll be 5 wks on Friday, iv had a few things get stuck and it's uncomfortable for about 10 min really stinks, but iv eaten eggs, bacon, sausage, shrimp, crackers, iv even had a piece of thin crust cheese pizza, iv never been regular as far as #2 goes but it's never been pure liquid since the surgery either, your esophagus may need to stretch a little more we all heal differently. But I'm sure it will get better in the coming weeks. Good luck

Thank you so much for responding Stephy. You seem to be doing amazingly well, I'm so pleased for you [emoji4]. I have a meeting with my consultant soon and I'm sure he'll probably say the same thing as you. You're right I just need to give it time, thank you [emoji3059]

Absolutely, you will do just fine, usually knock on wood I don't have issues after surgery, so far so good, this definitely hasn't been a easy road but you will get there, trust me it wasn't rainbows for me either the liquid and pureed stages well hell on me, just have faith in your team.

Hi everyone! I'm new here with a March 15th surgery date. I'm self-pay with Dr. Shillingford in Boca Raton, FL. It's all happening pretty fast after having spent years and years researching. My insurance specifically excludes all bariatric procedures. I'm super nervous but also super excited to begin the next chapter of my life.

I am having surgery with him on 8/17/22! I hope yours went well!

Hi, my surgery was March 14 and I’m still having issues keeping stuff down, even liquids. Anyone else going through this? Any pointers? I started at 232 lbs and I’m already down to 160 lbs.

We’re all +/ - 4 months out from surgery. Would love to hear some check-ins and see how everyone is doing.

I’m 32 and my starting weight was 213 and I’m currently 168. I haven’t had any issues and seem to tolerate everything. The only thing that I struggle with is my Fluid intake, I’m usually only getting in about 40 oz everyday including my Protein. I’m still aiming to drink 2 shakes a day.

Hi! Thanks for the check-in.

I'm doing great, too, Starting weight was 277 and current weight is 205. I have been this 205 number (give or take) for a couple weeks now but I feel great. I'm a rock star in the gym and I'm really seeing my body whip into a nice shape. I am struggling with Water, too, and my hunger has come back more than it had been previously. I am getting about 64 oz of water most days but I know it should still be more than that. My hair has been falling out, so there's that. It sucks but thankfully I had a lot to start. When I work out hard the scale doesn't move but I know my body composition is changing and that means my clothes fit and look great on my body. I had been 160lbs and extremely fit in 2019 - so this is a snap back for me.

I have had no issues - smooth sailing so far!

Cheers

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
