September Surgery Buddies!!

Thank you for that insight, my surgery date was 09.27, however maintaining the liquids are very hard as I always feel full after a few sips, I know I’m dehydrated as my urine had changed color ( sorry TMI ) however I’m just unsure is that normal to be dehydrated even though you can barely get any liquids down? And if I force it I feel bloated.

You are dehydrated BECAUSE you are not getting any liquids down. Keep sipping SLOWLY throughout the day. I found I had to hold a bottle of Water or other liquid in my hand all day long to keep drinking enough. I would just take a few small sips every few minutes. Some people set alarms. By the end of the first week I had no trouble getting 80 oz of Fluid in, but I don't think everyone is able to do that. Call your surgery center if you are concerned.

I keep saying this on here so sorry if you already know this but I did not until my clinic told me. Arranging for fluids if you are dehydrated does not have to be a big deal. I called my surgery center and they made an appointment for me to go to the hospital as an OUT PATIENT and I got two bags of fluids. I was drinking more and more each day so that one time was all I needed to get me over the hump.

Had VSG surgery 9/14 in Los Gatos, CA…did have 10-day preop diet of prescribed high Protein shakes/soups/liquids plus hearty salad daily until Clear Liquids only day before procedure.

Full three weeks out and trying to find my way with transition to blenderized foods and more than just liquids/purées, but definitely find some items don’t sit well and feel very heavy. Was walking too much and experiencing burning sensation on right side near largest incision so I backed off, but feeling like weight loss is slower than expected.

I feel a pain on my right side near the largest incision whether I'm walking or not... I feel like the weight loss is slower than expected, but I know it depends a lot on your starting weight. I have lost 15 lbs in the 3 weeks since surgery, so I think that's fine. My surgery BMI was 40 I believe, so I think you won't see huge weight loss unless you had a really high BMI. Plus, if you lost a lot of weight prior to surgery, you won't see much weight loss right away. Also, this is not a race... many people who lose slowly can lose all the weight they want to, it just happens over time.

Hello. I am new to this app. I am 45 yrs old. I have struggled with weight in the past 21 yrs ( after my first born ) and I have been yo-yo ing pretty high numbers each year. I had gastric sleeve surgery on the 28th of September in Lithuania. I had BMI 33.1 and self paid. Knee and joint pains where a drive to get this surgery and also that I found that my drive for training was non existent ( I used to be very active) So starting day 9 here. I have a ton of energy ( which I did not think I would have while eating nothing) but I am having issues getting my Water and liquids down. It takes time. My belly makes “gurgling” sound every time I drink something. I have a itch and some tension in one of the incisions. I have 5 incisions total. The only forum for people like my in my country is a Facebook group but I am not on there so that’s why I am happy to find this app. I have been reading up in the past few days and lot of helpful stuff here. Thanks for that.

2 1/2 weeks out from rny, eating soft foods ok (introducing a new one every day) and getting in Water. I think I'm swallowing air though I am trying very hard not to. I have many burps and gurgles with eating and drinking. I am using my son's baby spoon for foods, and putting it down between spoonfuls, am getting small sips of water constantly. How can I improve my food/beverage to air ratio? :D I am also very tired, not much energy. Is that normal?

So I was given the green light to start adding "soft solid" foods, and specifically on the list were whole cooked Beans (pinto, kidney, etc.)

What. A. Nightmare.

I've been eating puréed cooked pinto beans since I was moved to purées with no problems. The whole beans? I chewed them to paste and they STILL caused the absolute worst gastrointestinal pain I have ever had for going on 24 hours now. It is passing but let me tell you, I can feel EXACTLY where they are in my digestive tract and I am not touching a whole bean again for a few months. There's plenty of other things to eat.

I experienced the same thing with lima Beans. I tried them again a couple weeks later and much better, My biggest struggle is chicken. Unless it is shreaded, it gets stuck in my throat and hurts bad.

I couldn't do chicken except ground chicken (like ground beef but chicken - ground turkey is fine too). I've had no issues with Beans, and they've been a staple for me. Haven't tried lima beans, but kidney, black, and chickpeas have all been fine. eggs have been okay and tuna fish or broiled salmon has been fine. The only thing that didn't work was chicken, but it wasn't really in a sauce. Maybe I'll have to try again

Pretty much the same for me days 1-3 were terrible and that gas pain was excruciating. Completely stuck under my chest. Once that subsided the actual incision pain was not too bad. I am feeling great now too, I am still in complete shock of how much I have lost in so little time. After years of trying to get back down. Crazy and surreal!!! I got clearance yesterday to start the Mushy Phase, never have I been so excited for eggs and tuna salad [emoji16]

So I’m two weeks and one day post op and I’m down 32lbs! Struggled with Protein intake until the past two days when my mom (13yrs post op) introduced me to Isopure protein. It’s not chalky or flavored like vanilla or chocolate (absolutely burned out on those flavors) it’s clear and berry or fruit flavored depending what you get. There are several. I added it to propel to get electrolytes in at the same time! Delicious! Also today I added it to unsweet tea and it’s AMAZING! Taste great! Just something that helped me and thought I’d share in case someone was struggling like I was with the common protein flavors.

Hello everyone.. I had my surgery on Sept 30th 2021.. and it has been an horrible experience to me. I can't hold down fluids or soft food. so much mucus is coming up!! and I'm spitting all day. I'm so sad over this journey. is anyone having this same issue? if so, what are you doing about it.

Tomorrow is the big day! Getting sleeved in the morning and possibly spending a dark and stormy night in the hospital after. I'm actually excited about that because rain on wedding days and birthdays is considered a sign of good luck- so wouldn't a commitment of re-birth qualify as well?
Can't wait to see y'all on the other side!

Hope everyone's doing ok so far.
Incidence numbers are on the raise again and hospitals need to treat more COVID patients again. Looking with some kind of dread towards autumn/winter season.

I am post op day 2 now , you’re there pretty much the whole day. They send you home with a lot of support. Are you local to Birmingham and driving in for the surgery or staying at a hotel in the area?

Doing to much protein can make you gain weight? Because I gain 3 pound one day and I’m so frustrated 😭🥺 I did a hard work to be in 220 😭😭
