Hey y’all!! MIA all week again- it’s all I can do during the work week to come home, do a load of laundry and cook dinner for my 9 & 10 yo. Whew Mama is TIRED!

I wanted to give y’all a little update on my progress- I can’t get on my iPad for some reason so I can’t change my ticker but I’m down to 232.2- woot! That’s 43.2# so far! This week was slower but I’m eating and drinking more- still loosing about half a lb a day so that’s good.

A NSV is that I went to the Goodwill on Monday ( $.99 cent day at my GW) and bought a bunch of size 18 khaki pants- typical art teacher attire- and THEY ZIPPED THIS MORNING! I was a size 24 Jan 2!! Hekka Yeah!

Finally I had a GNO last night- we went to a local pub and then to see Mama Mia our on by our local theater club. I didn’t drink but I ordered their naked mugs (real chicken breast cup into cubes). We were in the nosebleeds- the theater is super old so during segregation it was the “black section” and the seats are TINY dingy and HOT! But I fit!!!!!! I’m attaching a picture of me in my SIZE LARGE dress that I wore (not XXL like 2 months ago!!!)

Also attached is a comparison pic- Jan 2 to last night. Total difference!!

Asparagus for lunch. I could only eat 2 stalks.

I’m so afraid to eat veggies because my instructions say no raw or crucíferos veggies for 6 months and I miss asparagus so much!! But truth is, I’m only able to eat 2 oz at a time so after eating 2 oz Protein I don’t have space for anything else. Maybe that’s why she says no veggies.

Wow!! My surgeon says “NO GUMMIES” and “NO RAW VEGGIES”!! No rice, no bread, no popcorn, basically no starch. Everything is so different with every surgeon.
They advise against gummies but it's bc of the sugar and I honestly don't care as long as I can get the Vitamins in. Lol

Also no raw veggies till 6 weeks but I had a cucumber slice the other day and didn't die . Ironically enough, toast and crackers were allowed this week but I didn't like it. No other starches allowed and quite frankly they make me feel bad so I don't bother .

I’m going to start eating solid foods by next week’s Wednesday (six week po). I started feeling better. Drinking Water is getting really really smooth. I’m getting bigger sips. Energy level is higher. Craving for cucumber and Tomato salad with white vinegar and salt.

I got a women's daily Gummy from costco bc I couldn't stand the chewables. I'll take the few grams of sugar in order to be able to get the Vitamins in !

Oh interesting, I might look into that. That's what I used to take, but I was concerned about the Gummy nature

This is my surgeon and RD too. I’m really sick of cheeses and Beans. I’m going to try making chicken meatballs tomorrow as I’m really struggling with transitioning to more normal food at week 7 post-op. I would actually love to eat a salad, but haven’t been cleared yet.

I purchased the Bariatric Multivitamin with Iron from this site. I bought 12 months worth for $99, so that seemed like a deal and the vitamin/mineral amounts met the guidelines I was given by my surgery team. They are a capsule, but easy to swallow for me.

Thanks for the info, I could probably handle anther capsule. My Calcium one is huge and I manage it so far. And one a day is great

She says it’s because sticky foods and gummy vitamins are harder to digest and can cause build up. I cringe every time I chew the chewable ones because they’re too sweet for me now. But I do understand about gummies expanding in the belly cause I used to eat them nonstop!! Probably why I gained twenty pounds in two weeks before seeing a bariatric surgeon. lol

I get it! I have them first thing in the morning in an empty stomach followed by hot tea so I never encountered any issues

Has anyone used nutritional yeast? If so how do you use it? I've read it has a nutty flavor, and some people use it as a substitute for cheese. I'm thinking of trying it on veggies like sautéed until soft squash.

I do the calcium chews. They have lots of different flavors. I have the French vanilla caramel. They are pretty good.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
