💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Recommended Posts

Hello August!!!
Today is my husband's birthday, father's birthday and preop class. I did wake up 30 mins early because I was looking forward to the day.

As much research as I've done, going through the class solidified the realness of this surgery and subsequent lifestyle change for me. I desperately want to succeed so I'm anxious and the 30 mins early awakening helped me practice some mindfulness meditation and reframing.

Side B: I'm definitely a night owl! Definitely!

1. This month, my personal goals are to figure out the forever diet, add another workout day and stop weighing every day.

2. VSG 5 mos post-op

3. 233 BMI 35 - OMG its down 12 points!

4. Fun fact: I started learning to play the violin at 48.

(I was going to say I lived in Kenny Rogers' barn but that doesn't beat flirting with Brad Pitt.)

Hey guys. Cardio is about to happen. Heading off to a suspend class in Pilates and it’s definitely fast-paced.

Lol, my Brad Pitt disclaimer:
I honestly had zero idea who he was at the time. It was 1991 and there wasn’t an internet then. 🤣🤣
Besides, I was young and fit and trim back in those days (oh to be 23 and weigh 128 pounds and be a size 6 again...)

Oh well, the reality is that today I’m 50 and will never be that young or cute again, but I’m a helluva lot wiser.

Goal #1- Stay focused on me. I'm a problem solver. I tend to try and solve all of the family problems. Then I get "lost" in there, not taking care of me.

Goal #2- Learn to accept the compliments on my weight loss. I still get uncomfortable, but I'm getting better.

Goal #3- Get to goal of 135. Not going to stress over it. I had about a 4 week stall. Went crazy over it! Then decided not to worry about it. Lost weight! Go figure!!😄

Side question. I'm definitely a Meadowlark. I'm up every morning by 0400. In bed by 7:30 -8:00pm!

Hello August. Last night was a new moon which means new beginnings. My goal is to drop 6 lbs. to 130 lbs. I gained a little over 10 pounds following plastics and think this is totally doable as also swelling will decrease. I am 5’5” and weigh 136.4 as of this morn. I was sleeved in 2015 and lost about 105. Goal is-125 lbs. I was maintaining until June PS. Fun fact: I held a job as a shadow dancer in a nightclub.

If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you get it done and what did you get done? (I'm booked for an arm lift in December and my ears prick up whenever I hear/read about someone with plastics experiences....)

I'm here. I hope I can commit, because I've done it 2x and didn't participate. I'm sorry🥺

I'm Barb and I had the vsg on 2-25. I'm coming up on 6bmonths post-op and have lost 73 pounds. My weight loss is moving very slow even though I should be losing more. I track my food and steps so I'm ok with that. I have had a few stalls and it gets worrisome.

I Would like to lose 8 pounds, but 5 would be great. Anything moving downward is a plus!

I weight 265 and my BMI is 42.1

I used to think I was a night owl but since instituting a strictish bedtime of 11pm if I stay up later I get exhausted. I guess I'm a hummingbird then??

I'm in!

Personal goal is to lose enough this month to set myself up for breaking into onederland in September. (Of course, I'd love to pull that off this month but I want to be realistic.)

Gastric sleeve, losing, 7.5 months post op. Current weight 212 and BMI is 39.

Fun fact: I used to ride in horse shows.

Yesterday, I woke up 40 minutes early and I did complete 30 minutes of cardio. Today, I woke a bit early and went to the gym a tad early so I got the 20 minutes of strength training in on top of my daily cardio. So, yes, I'm onto the challenges. I just finished a book last night so I'll have to think about what I want to read next that might also inspire me.

B-side - I would say these days that I am a morning lark.

Day 2. Read an inspiring book. I can’t do that in one day! I am reading the book “The View from Flyover Country “ by Sarah Kendzior. It is a very eye opening read to say the least.

I haven’t decided what I’m doing to workout today, I have a ton of stuff to do but I’ll fit something in. I finally nailed down the personal trainer and I’m meeting with him next Tuesday. I’m looking forward to getting back into a gym routine vs. just winging it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
