February 2019 weight loss buds

Recommended Posts

Yes, I definitely agree it's not the best carb and salt wise. I am thinking that it's probably putting me in that cycle of craving those things - I'm probably giving myself some sugar spikes and then lows once they wear off. I've just been so hungry/snacky lately... not sure if it's hormones, or if it's my fatbrain. I am in a cycle right now of thinking of food all the time. I went to bed hungry last night and it was rough. I'll try to swap those things out for better items and see if it helps.

I think many people lose just fine in the 900 calorie range, but I’ve read many that have kept them lower while trying to lose, so I guess it depends on the individual. Personally I’m trying to keep mine lower because I’m terrified of wasting this first few months after surgery. I’m sure my mindset is coming from my feelings of failure from not getting to goal/regaining with my sleeve, so honestly I don’t know, lol. You could just be in a normal stall or 900 could be too high. Maybe drop them for a couple of days and see how your body responds?
This!!!
Omg, this!

One good/bad thing the “house” psychologist did was to instill in each of us the paranoia that this honeymoon period is a one-time only reboot to the metabolism so don’t mess it up.

Overall it’s good, because I don’t want to fall into the trap that I can still “cheat” and lose and I also don’t want to fall into the “other skinny people can eat like this” trap either.

Kind of like recovering alcoholics, ex-smokers, or drug abusers, I am a fat person no matter what my current weight/size is.
My brain and body will NEVER be able to handle food like many other people can.
Having this surgery and the resultant weight-loss doesn’t change any of those facts just like a recovering alcoholic staying sober for years upon end doesn’t change the fact that one drink could put them back on the road to hell.

Even though previous failures weren’t necessarily my “fault”, they are the reality of my past. It’s what my body does with food and i realize now that I’ve got to be as diligent as possible and still find a balance that I can live with for the rest of my life.

It’s never going to be easy. I can never forget—even after I hit goal weight— that this will be a lifetime of daily choices to either keep me on track or derail me.

Isn't it crazy though that for other kinds of addicts, they can just avoid the thing that is addictive. I was a 20 a day smoker for 10 years... it was hard giving up, but I could just not buy cigarettes and avoid the places where people smoked. food though you HAVE to eat. So it's like smoking, but in moderation. I'm not giving myself excuses, but it is kind of nuts how we have to try to moderate the thing we are addicted to - there's no giving it up completely.

Nope.

I was a pack a day smoker for almost 15 years.
One day decided I was fed up with something so stupid having that kind of control over me.
Got angry enough that I stopped mid-pack and never smoked another one.
That was almost 13 years ago and while it had its white-knuckle moments at first, I too took myself out of situations where I was tempted to smoke and with time it got a lot easier.

Basically my mindset now is to relearn how and what to eat and to incorporate as many healthier swaps and choices as I can. It will be a learning process, but at least I do have this FABULOUS tool of a smaller stomach in my toolbox.

Also, I get a good metabolic reboot so most of my previous errors/bad choices don’t follow me around for eternity.

I’m seriously reading Dr Fungs books on intermittent fasting and as soon as my body finishes the honeymoon phase, I’m going to use IF as my primary method to control my weight.

Right now it’s just too soon post surgery.

That's for your post, Sheribear68, I always suspected you were a strong lady and being able to stop smoking cold turkey proves it. Late Husband was so good at quoting that he did it repeatedly, Tomkitten says he was smoking again the week before his death. I didn't know , because of my asthma/COPD he wasn't allowed to smoke around me.

Thanks. It didn't happen tonight. I didn't anything new, but maybe I ate faster or drank sooner than I realized.

Sounds like a gallbladder attack.

Froufrou I think I’d drop the Starbucks for 200 calories and try to keep carbs under 30 and see how that goes.

Not only would it save me a ton of calories, but also a ton of money! I don't realise how expensive these coffees are... until I add it up my weekly coffee spend! Ouch! Bye bye starbucks.

Yay, hard work is paying off... lost a pound! I'm 3 lbs away from a 100 pound total loss (via sleeve and bypass). I can't quite believe it.

Okay guys.
I HAVE to post this because I’m sooooooooo freaking excited I can’t stand it.

My big goal for April was to weigh under 200 pounds and I’ve got to admit I was absolutely sure I would miss it by a couple pounds because I lose so slowly.
Friday morning I was weighing 202 and I was afraid to get on the scale so soon, but since this is the last day in April I just needed to know.

Anyway, this happened and it’s the lowest I’ve weighed since 2005 when I hit the upper 180’s for about 5 minutes.
Can’t wait to actually hit the goal of weighing under 186 (the lowest I’ve weighed since 1996), but that will have to be a goal I set for June. 🤣🤣

Absolutely fantastic!!!!!! Where is that screenshot from? I know, it's probably an app I should already know about and be using, but I've just decided to track more closely and this looks like a nifty way of doing it.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
