I have lost 53.5 pounds since February 4th

Marine, that's amazing--and it definitely shows. Congratulations! What has your exercise routine been like since surgery?

Hmmm, I just came to the realization that I think my views on food are changing. Like most of us, holidays were always about food. Yesterday I made Prime Rib, macaroni salad, corn on the cob and cauliflower Mac n cheese for our family dinner. I ate 3 dime sized bites of meat (should have eaten more because it’s Protein but I got tired of chewing), 1/4c of the cauliflower and 1/3 of a corn and didn’t even consider eating the macaroni salad, no struggle at all. I guess I just didn’t even entertain the option and just now realized it. I didn’t make a dessert since I’d asked the boys (I have my dh and 3 boys 18-20 here) what they wanted and never got an answer so I didn’t make any, lol. I hope this is the beginning of real change in my way of thinking about food.

Hi, Taylor. I agree that my attitudes on food are changing--but I do wonder whether it will be the same after the honeymoon period. As I've said before, I'm basically never hungry and I have to force myself to eat enough Protein every day. I'm getting tired of it, and the things I crave most are fruits and vegetables--but I can't have them yet because the damn protein fills me up. I have zero interest in sweets and fried foods.

Non existent has been my routine. I try to walk when I can. I am having issues with my sciatic nerve causing pain in my right thigh. I want to feel better so I can exercise and lose weight faster

LOL! Same for me, and I'm also losing a really good amount of weight. I am working very long hours and I'm just too exhausted when I get home to exercise.

Everythinganna- I’m sure it’s Water retention. It happens quickly if we go from eating few carbs to eating carbs things. It should go away in a day or 2 if you cut carbs again.

Yes, we will be able to eat more as time goes by and that’s why we’re supposed to change our eating habits now. If we haven’t made those changes by the time we can eat more then regain will be inevitable.
Yes! This is exactly the reason.
Even though a small amount for someone else, suddenly increasing carbs will cause us to get “fluffy”.
I’ve almost exclusively blocked carbs from my diet, but I’ve noticed lots of joint pain and inflammation and just a general feeling of “ickyness” if I have more than usual.

Also, the honeymoon period varies but I’ve been told anywhere between 8-14 months.

Marine! Wow that’s amazing weight loss and thanks so much for posting your progress so far.
I think I’m going to continue to post progress pics every month as a way to track. It’s easy to get caught up in day to day and forget to take a step back and see the bigger picture

I agree with you. 53 does not seem like much, but it is. Keep up your good job

Is anyone else finding their appetite coming back? I've found myself getting hungry again. My weight loss has also really slowed down. Only 10 lbs in the last month.

Okay, a bit of perspective here: "only" 10 pounds in a month would have thrilled us before surgery. 🙂 And from what I have read, there are ebbs and flows in our weight loss journey. Unless you think you have strayed off course, I would recommend that you not weigh yourself for a couple of weeks.

Thank you - I think I need some perspective. I'll definitely try not to weigh for a bit... not sure how long I'll hold out! haha.

I have strayed a little I think... a few tortilla chips here and there. I have had a hard time with Proteins for some reason and have found carbs easier to digest, but I am trying to go back to proteins and eating slowly, etc. I've done a lot better with that today.

ugh... a lifetime of bad habits to change.

Froufrou, yes my hunger has returned, but I get hungry when it’s meal time and then I’m not hungry again for about 3 hours or so.

I think another part of my problem right now is that I am grazing and feeling headhunger. This is a dangerous point for me - I need to figure this one out.

Froufrou.
I think you’ve definitely identified a couple of trouble spots and I find that identifying the problem goes a long way toward fixing it.
Lol, after the first 2 weeks, I “ only” lose 10 pounds month every month. 🤣🤣

My average has consistently been 2.5 pounds weekly and even though I’m kinda disappointed in those numbers, they are the numbers I’m getting so I’m learning to live with slow and steady.

I have bouts of hunger and mostly it’s when I’m stressed out.
Since about 98% of my stress is work related, I do struggle with it at work, but so far I’ve managed multiple temptations and when I get hangry at work I down some fairlife milk.

I have a 4 week rotating schedule and 3 weeks ago was my late week.
That means I work 1-11pm 4 days that week and getting home from work at 11:20pm after 10 hours of hell looks different for me today than it did a few months ago.

Previously I would arrive home starving, eat some dinner, and have at least 1-2 glasses of wine.
Every.
Night.

Now I still arrive home from those shifts stressed, because surgery can’t fix my work environment, but I handle it differently.
If I’m super- hungry I pour the milk into my favorite coffee mug and take it upstairs with me to my bedroom where I have a aromatherapy diffuser and I can pull up a meditation video on YouTube.
That’s my “me” time and my husband will even do the mediation exercises with me.
Then I give myself a half hour screen time before I make myself turn in for the night.

Knowing I give myself permission for that glass of milk really gets me through a rough situation where bad habits could come back to roost if I let them.

I’m going to do everything in my power to kick those habits to the curb

Sounds perfect, Sheribear! There is no single correct path, and each of us has to find what works for us (as long as it's not a hot fudge sundae).

I went to the gym this afternoon for the first time since surgery. I think I was feeling guilty after admitting to Marine yesterday that I basically don't exercise. I did 50 minutes at 3.5 miles per hour, which is basically a brisk walk--and I was totally spent. But I felt so virtuous afterwards!

More fun this evening. I had some white meat chicken and a sugar-free popsicle after getting home from the gym, both of which I've eaten many times before without any problem. About 90 minutes later I was overcome with an overwhelming wave of nausea, the worst I've had since surgery. I ran to the bathroom thinking I was going to vomit, but I just coughed and spit into the toilet multiple times (sorry if that's TMI). It's now an hour later. I took anti-nausea medication 30 minute ago and am waiting for it to take effect, but I'm still feeling pretty shaky.

Just when we think we have this thing under control, there's another curve ball. In spite of it all, I've lost a mind-blowing 48 pounds since surgery.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
