December 2018 Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

Ever since my sleeve I noticed that my taste buds are over sensitive. Example I opened a Premier shake and drank half, put it back in refrigerator, after several hours i went back to drink the remainder and I couldn’t it picked up all the scents and flavors of other items in the refrigerator. I thought it was just the shake but today I noticed I had a partially opened bottle of Water and I am experiencing the same issue. I had to throw both out. Anyone else had this happen to them?

I can’t drink the premier shakes at all anymore. All whey Protein Shakes are giving me the runs. I get it I’ve had issues with milk in the past but nothing like this. I had surgery 12/27 and a few issues with my throat and ears hurting but that’s getting better. I’m having a hard time with the smell of some Protein shakes and I just keep tossing them. Water and broth are my besties.

Had my surgery dec 26th and doing ok I guess. Still in pain because I have 5 incisions with 1 being really big. Just made a trip to Walmart and walked around and I'm tired. I hate the Protein Shakes. Am able to stomach 1% milk with instant carnation Breakfast, scrambled egg, hard boiled egg and cream of wheat. I feel hungry alot of the time. It's almost a week since my surgery and I'm down 10 pounds. Trying to drink as much Water as I can but it's hard. I feel it might be too soon to be eating real food but I'm tolerating it ok so just taking it easy.

Hi Jean, sounds like your doing great. My surgery was 12/27. It is tough getting all of the liquids in. Funny, we are headed to Walmart now to get some steps in and pick up some supplies. Keep up the good work.

I had surgery the 20th, haven’t tried an egg as yet. Ur cottage cheese and plain yogurt works . I really like unsweetened chocolate almond milk with Protein Powder , 1/2 a frozen banana and some Peanut Butter powder .. delicious

I was sleeved December 19. I have lost 21 pounds since I started the liquid diet before surgery. I am starting my soft diet tomorrow, and I am kinda worried. I don’t want to over eat, and I’m afraid that will happen. Has anyone found different meal plans for us sleevers yet? I would like to find different plans to help this soft diet along.

Hi. New here, glad I found you folks. I had my sleeve surgery on 12-31-18. I'm a wife, mom of two kids , and a pediatric nurse. I gained an enormous amount of weight over the last ten years after I was diagnosed with lupus. I was nervous about the surgery, but I'm so glad I went through with it. I am thrilled about possibly being thinner, healthier and more mobile in the New Year. Good luck to all of us...its going to be a happy , health new year.

Hey sleevers, I'm 20 lbs down myself, and I'm 2 weeks PO SLEEVE on Thursday. I called myself trying grits with eggs 2 days before..NO GO[emoji17] I believe it was the eggs tbh. But I just didn't eat any of it. Had a shitty day on Saturday so I was not in the mood for anything really. Today was so much better, I got mile mile in today, didn't drink all 64 ozs but I did puree some potatoes yesterday and kept it down. I am looking forward to the bake fish when I get there. Still taking mostly liquids though. Any suggestions for the full liquids stage from the graduate sleevers. I am not a fan of the Greek yogurt. Unless it's the brand, I got a different brand this time for the next stage. Keep pushing you guys got this[emoji108][emoji108]

I had to reach out to a coworker who recently had the sleeve 8 months ago, and she said it was the BEST decision she could have made, so that gives me hope[emoji847] you'll do great Mama234. Each day is a day closer to a better you[emoji38]

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
