Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

Hello everyone and happy holidays! I’m almost 4 months post op and doing well overall. I’m wondering who is still tracking your Protein? I’m still using my app to track carbs/fats/protein and just wondered if people get to a point where they don’t need to track?

My surgeon is completely anti tracking. He wants me to eat healthy and be happy without obsessing about the numbers. Not even calories, he refuses to give a number

Have any of you had coffee since the surgery? I don’t think I can survive much longer without it. I’m about to be doing 12 hour days 5x a week and having school on top of that. I’ve been dealing with being sick lately, my hip is injured, etc.

I went back on coffee last month. Don't know if it's allowed just yet but didn't ask if I could. Doesn't seem to mess with my appetite at all and I've had ALOT.

I’ve been scared. And my days will only get longer. I’ll be looking at 16 hour shifts. If I can make it through my bsn and med school

i just started a 3rd job so needless to say i’ve been back on coffee for a little over a month now. it’s fine for me, but i’m able to drink liquids with no issue and have been since the start so staying hydrated is relatively “easy”. the caffeine has been fine for me though, i wouldn’t be too scared. but maybe start with a weak coffee if you are nervous and then work your way to the good stuff

What kind of surgery did you have? I had the RnY and I was told that the caffeine would have a negative impact on my healing and on the work of the process I switched to Decaf and I drink as music as I want, whenever I want.

I haven't yet. I just can't bring myself to have it black. I did try a cup using vanilla Premier Protein as creamer/sweetner but I took 2 sips and threw it out. Prior to July, I would have a cup with 1 tsp of sugar and some non dairy Creamer.

I asked at the 3 month mark if I could go back to caffeine and was told as long as I was getting enough Water in it was ok to do so.

Our thread seems to have died. I admit I’m not on as often as I used to be. How has everyone been? Hope all our summer surgery friends are doing well. Wishing all of you a happy, blessed, and prosperous new year!

My weight loss has been stubbornly slow. I’m down to 184 at the moment. I’m in side lg shirts and size 18 pants. I can’t eat anything without being nauseated.

Mine has been pretty slow too. I was stuck at 225 for almost two whole months. I just got down to 220. I can wear a size lg or xl top in most stores and a size 14 or 16 in bottoms. I’m sorry that eating causes you nausea. The only things that seem to bother me food wise are raw greens of any kind (especially lettuce), tuna, and sauces. Hope you feel better and that your tummy settles at some point

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
