We’re all so similar! Sleeve done on July 3 and I am down 56 pounds including Pre-op. I had my 3 month follow-up/nutrition check last week and am waiting to hear back. I was afraid that I was losing too slowly (comparing myself to some people here) but my NP said I was doing great.

Awesome! Keep up the good work!

Question for the group- do any of you track calories? If so, how many calories a day are you consuming on average? I feel like I’m eating more than I should now that I can tolerate mostly anything. My weight loss has definitely slowed down. I try to reach over 60 grams of Protein a day, but sometimes eat more carbs than I should. Roughly taking in anywhere from 850-1300 a day.

I'm taking in between 500-850 per day. I usually eat two eggs with some type of cheese for Breakfast, A shake for my 2nd meal, 2oz of some type of Protein for and veggies for 3rd meal than another shake in the evening. If I have a snack it's either a SF ice pop or pickle spears. I get about 90-120+ grams of protein a day and drink at least 126oz of Water including what I mix into my shakes.

I’m shooting for 1000 calories a day but sometimes eating more like 1200. I’m losing 2-2.5 pounds a week.

I was sleeved 7/11, have lost a total of 57 pounds since pre op and surgery. I would guess I eat about 900-1100 calories a day. Still working on getting in all my Water.

I look forward to hearing what you are told. My nutritionist is positively coy about what I should be eating. She only wants to talk about habits like chewing each bite 25 times and getting enough Water. I’m supposed to aim for 75 grams of Protein daily but no guidance on other macros or calories. For me, I know tracking works, so I want numbers! Good luck.

After a lifetime of counting numbers, that was important for me, too. Otherwise I have no sense of "where I am." My NUT said initially I should get 300-600 cal per day, leaning toward the 600 end. Then as more real foods were introduced, 600-900 cal per day. Now, 12 weeks out, 900-1200 cals and 65-80g Protein is the range, but I should try to stay at 1000 cals & 65g protein...at 70, I probably need less protein than younger people. When I get to Maintenance Level I'm going to try this ratio and see how it goes:

Protein - 26%, 65g, 260cal. Carbs - 38%, 95g, 380cal. Fats - 36%. 47g, 428cal It will really boil down to tweaking the fat and carb numbers if necessary since I want the protein level to be the constant.

Thank you for sharing those recommendations. I feel better about what I've been eating.

So my MD told me that there really isn’t a calorie range recommendation because calories are so different, i.e. 100 calories of chicken is different than 100 calories of simple carbs- crackers, chips, etc. She said to focus on quality calories, Protein and veggies and not worry about calories. Not much help but it does make sense. She said to eat 4-5 small meals and try to hit 65-75 gms protein daily. Hope this helps :-)

Congrats to everyones successes....keep up the great work!!! I was sleeved 7/16.... when i started process in April I was 265. Last few days i'm stuck at 201 and just dying to be under 200 for the first time in I can't remember. Didnt feel well last week - so goal this week is to really hit the gym in addition to walking as much as possible during the day (I am blessed to work in a super large building that allows me to get those steps in!).

Same here my NP and NUT told me I shouldn't be worried about calories as of now and probbly not until about 6 months out. Just stay focused on Protein intake and Water. I am hitting around 800 as of right now but it's mostly from adding things like PB2, banana or yogurt to my Protein Shakes.

Also I'm supposed to be hitting around 80 grams of Protein and 80 ounces of Water minimum but I'm getting 100+ protein and 125+ of water daily.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
