The diet you can't quit!

Recommended Posts

I think it is safe to say that none of us got here without trying diets that we inevitably cheated on and then quit. I am at week seven and I have lost 33lbs. My clothes are getting big and I am starting to see changes. If I wasn't seeing changes, I think I would be having a harder time dealing with my new lifestyle. Now that I can't turn to food, unless I want to suffer, I am starting to realize how much I used food to deal with almost everything from stress to boredom. I know I would have never found the self control to stop abusing food without this surgery. I am so glad that I jumped through all of those hoops to make this possible.

Use a version of one of my late mamma's habits and it used to drive me bonkers. She would hold her medications in her hand and talk to them. She would say" if I take you what will you do to or for me?" So say to the food " if I eat you, what will you do to me?" if it is going to just make you fatter, make you sick to your stomach, break out in hives or give you diarrhea or Constipation, just pass on by, don't stop to reach out for it! You're bigger than it, smarter than it, stop listening if it calls out to you or whispers your name. You have a new goal in life, you do not want swerve from it. Oh it will try to seduce you back into, its web, you have been a friend for years. Like a controlling boyfriend it doesn't want to break up the relationship. Divorce MickyD's,abandon KFC, and tell Church's Fried chicken you're no longer worshiping there! Buck up, Bucky Beaver, you KNOW what to do, I believe in you and given the chance you'll do the correct thing! We are here for you Every step of the way, we've been tempted and we've overcame. You can too.

Some of it,you will re establish a relationship with, if it is something basically good. You'll have a grownup relationship, a couple bites will satisfy you or you may lose your taste for it. People say even Water can taste sweet afterwards. You may want things seasoned differently or no seasoning at all. I also am presurg, now before you discount my advice, I have gastritis, in many ways I've had to go into post surgery mode. I can't eat large portions at a time, I used to engulf my food like an aomeba so it didn't get away. I have in the past ate leftovers so I didn't have to refrigerate them. Now cake sickens me, bread products sit in my tummy like a frozen hockey puck, some meats I can't keep down if I manage to swallow them. I wonder if I'll end up vegan before I'm thru? What sounds good? Vegetables especially microwaved sweet potatoes, no butter, no brown sugar, just split it open and eat. Tofu and sometimes broth. These are all things after surg people eat also. Why aren't I losing faster?, I'm not exercising except in my house, when it's warmer I'll be walking more. I have 2 knee replacements so I'll walk in smaller spurts but I will do it. And sometimes I eat dinner later than 7 pm. Well I just do not get around to doing it earlier. I am still having trouble convincing my son I don't want his large portion size, I guess he worries about me, at least I rationalize it that way. I have tried every diet up to and including starvation, don't work. I need the tool of surgery! Have I rambled on long enough? I am not immune to struggle, I just try to overcome to the best of my ability. Get some good quality rest, tomorrow is another day and you need your strength.

I am a horrid housekeeper. Family joke: if the police came in they'd find evidence of a struggle. My project for tonight--- clear off the couch. I have bariatric papers lying on one end. Thought I'd better put them in the file cabinet before they got lost or thrown out with the newspapers What are the newspapers doing there? My son and heir to my miniscule fortune put them there when he was finished reading them. Why are they still there? Because last night was trash night and he didn't want to fill up another bag. Ah- life at Chez frust8 is like a soap opera, its cluttered but its warm and it's home. Besides he assured me nothing is on the floor so I'll fall down on it, of course not,its there on the flippin couch.

Thanks! 33 is also amazing! Remember I started heavier :).

I’ve had stalls too. I’ve slowed to 2 lbs a week if I’m lucky

Keep it up :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
