August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

Yay!! Congrats. I am too! My stall is over ( I just don't want to stall again anytime soon)

I weighed 290 this AM. Less than I have in like twenty years. Feels exciting :) but also scary cuz it's always come back. I'm trying to tell myself this time it won't come back! But that's a hard thing to convince yourself of.

I know I've lost roughly 0,3 kgs since yesterday (as I said, my scale hasn't synched with the wifi), putting me at approximately 298,6 lbs (I think, again, without the exact data synched, this will be tough to say). Weighing myself everyday does have the side effect of making the progress feel slow, but I think looking at the aggregate, I've already lost 10% of my excess weight and I'm 6.84 kg (or roughly 15 lbs) away from reaching 20% of my excess weight lost.

I was sleeved on 8/23. It has been a whole month and I have only lost 25 pounds. I'm a big girl I should have lost more. I'm not eating nearly what I was eating before but staying under 900 calories a day. What is wrong with me? Why am I not losing? I feel like this was all a mistake and I'm going to just stay fat forever. The scale hasn't moved in about 2 weeks and my heart is broken.

I was sleeved on 8/16 so we are a day apart.

This week I've lost 5. After stalling for so long. Yayayay!!! Hope it's going well for you!!

Congratulations for being under 300!! I’m at 220 and my immediate goal is to get under 200 then I’ll set my new goal. Weight is coming off slowly and I’ve stalled, which sucks but there isn’t much I can do.

I'm down juuuust short of 60 pounds since I started this. (Including the 2 week pre-op diet.) Seven weeks since sleeved, no major stalls. I'm sticking to 700-850 calories a day, 90-110 grams of Protein a day, <60 g of carbs a day. I walk/hike around 10 miles a week, which I am actually starting to love. The 'burbs here in Chicago are full of public woods with trails. I walk a slightly different path nearly every day.

BEST OF ALL: as of today, I can eat solid foods. I actually started a bit last night. My family made a sort of pizza bread thing and I had about 160 calories worth of that. Tonight, I want to have... a Tomato. Seriously... it's been killing me watching my family rave over the amazing tomatoes in season and not be able to have one.

Good morning August sleevers. I had my sleeve on 29th August and since surgery I've lost 11 kg, I think that is about 25 pounds for our American friends. I feel it's a bit slow as I'm a big girl and thought I lose more. I've been averaging about 450 - 500 calorie a day. Later this morning I have an appointment with my dietitian so hopefully I'll get some tips on how to move forward.

Although I haven't lost a lot of weight I'm feeling really good, my knees aren't hurting, I'm eating less crap and I'm exercising more. I'm so glad I've gone down this path. I'm 41 yrs old and I truly believe getting sleeved has added years to my life.

Finally, I'm thankful for this support group, reading about others experiences has but my over active brain at ease and has helped me feel 'normal'.

Keep up the great work August sleevers!

Congrats to you and your awesome attitude! I was sleeved on 8/15 and since my preop diet on 7/29 I'm down 53.4 lbs

Feeling better with less back pain and able to walk further. I too was hoping it would be more. I have about 200 to lose, well now about 147lbs lol

I know as I feel better I can increase my activity. I don't feel I could/should eat less. I literally have 2 small meals a day and a Protein Shake so I'm comfortable with the amount of food I'm intaking. But more activity I'm hoping will make a difference.

On a positive note, I'm thrilled with a 50 lb loss. Have never lost anything like this in my life!!!!

Keep working hard! We can do this!!!

Yeah, I've been gaining over the past couple of days, which blows. Since Thursday or so, I've gained 1,3 kg back. I know that looking at the bigger picture, I'm doing fine but looking at how much I lose on a day to day basis, I'm thinking "how long does this take?", knowing full well that I probably will take a year to a year and a half to achieve my goal weight.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
