Anyone go to Mexico solo?

Recommended Posts

As it turns out, I dont think my husband can make the trip to Tijuana with me so it looks as though I will be going by myself. I live outside of LA so will probably just take the train to San Diego cuz its probably not wise to drive home medicated! I guess I will stay by the airport the night before and just take a taxi to the pick up spot in the morning. Anyone else go down there by themselves?? I'm not at all worried about the care i will receive or even being solo in Mexico (LA is probably worse! Lol)...its just scary having surgery alone and far from home.

I'll be going alone in five days and have no worries. Dr. Illan and his team have my back and will communicate any needs to my family. I also have a great set of friends online who are having surgery the same day. My advice is to find who else is scheduled with you and pm them.

I am scheduled with Dr Illan on Aug. 23rd. I am doing it thru BariatricPal Team MX. I am about a 3 hour drive from San Diego which is why i was coming down the night before. Unfortunately my husaband cant get off work and my mother is way too frail to travel.

Bill Yanez and Stacy will not let you down. Im going alone on the forth of july. I'll let you know.

@@fancypants67,

It sounds like you have a good handle on what to expect and exactly what your concerns are. You are right – I bet you will have wonderful and friendly care at the hospital and will barely even miss a travel companion.

Going down there, I would take plenty of things to distract myself so I didn’t feel lonely or focus too much on my pre-op nerves. Maybe take a book or magazine, or a movie to watch on the train.

Going back, be sure to take a pillow so you can cushion yourself as needed. Also think ahead about how you will be able to manage your belongings without lifting anything heavy. Maybe you can use a suitcase with wheels, and don’t be shy about asking someone to lift it for you on and off the train as necessary.

When you get to Tijuana, you might meet some other patients who are alone. They may be interested in making friends with you and that can make your entire stay better – not to mention that you could make a friend for life if you decide to stay in touch!

Good luck.

I've been to TJ for surgery twice by myself. I'm glad I went alone. I would have felt obligated to keep a companion entertained and I was in no shape to be worrying about that. It was nice to only have to think about taking care of myself.

I completely agree with JamieLogical on this one. No stress. Better to go alone. You are gonna be kinda out of it for two days at the hospital and in no shape to "entertain" anyone. You'll be 100% safe and taken care of. Please trust me on this!

I went alone. (Now) ex-husband wouldn't go with me. Had no problems at all. But then, I'm used to travelling by myself, so . . . it was easy for me. Be sure to wear your compression stockings, going and coming! Had a friend didn't wear them on the way home, got a blood clot. They caught it early, and she's fine, but you can die from that!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
