I started Wegovy in December and I've lost 30 lbs. It has turned off the obsessive food chatter in my head and I feel like a normal person food wise for the first time ever. This is how normal people must feel!

I just started on wegovy injections this past Monday. I am targeting to lose 40 pounds, I got some padding in there for summer weight vs. winter:)

    This is a fantastic point!
The surgery is just a tool, and plenty of people have surgery and fail. Those that are successful have made fundamental changes to the way they eat.
OP: either way, if you want to be successful with or without surgery, you'll need to change your relationship with food. For you at your low BMI, that may be enough even without surgery.

A friend of mine had bariatric surgery a few years ago, lost weight and she did slowly gain some weight back. She has been doing these injections for the last few months. She does get sick on occasion, but she has lost another 17 pounds. She looks great! I hope you all do as well!

Hello, I just started Mounjaro!! I'm on Week 3 of 2.5mg and the appetite suppression is no joke! My doctor put me on this after stalling out at 80 pounds lost post op. Surgery March 2021, stopped losing March 2022 (but haven't gained).
I'd like to hear about anyone else's experience so far, the weight loss has been slow, but I'm hopefully because the scale is finally moving again!!

I haven't had the surgery yet. Nut my doctor had me on Mounjaro 3 month pre op. Mounjaro is the best appetite suppressant. If I have any stalls I do plan to reach out to my doctor to see if getting back on Mounjaro will be good.
    Good luck!

@UnderTheCaliSun congratulations on your weightloss journey and finding a way to keep it off. I just had a Revision done of TORe and I’m just now hearing about Wegovy, Semaglutide and Mounjaro. I’m looking to get prescribed semaglutide to go along with my revision to ensure I hit my weight loss goal and help regulate my glucose and cholesterol.

Check out Ozempic or Mounjaro. Could give you the nice jumpstart on losing again, and reset that pouch. Just an idea!

    Hi.
    50 year old male.
Had bariatric sleeve surgery in June of '19.
Went from 341lbs to 238lbs between the start of the process leading up to surgery (end of 2018) through March of 2020. After Covid hit in March of 2020, I had a lot of changes (as did many) in my life, from quarantine to moving to a different region, etc. With surgery you have a 1 year "Goldilocks" period where you will lose almost all of your weight. After that year, some of your hunger (due to increased Ghrelin production) will return. Unless you learn and incorporate new lifestyle changes (including exercise and eating habits) during that first year, you risk the chance of putting that weight back on. Foods to stay away from are high caloric liquids and ice creams. I found them to be far less difficult to overindulge in vs things such as pasta I found difficult to eat. I found that I could still go through ice cream and cheese-related snacks just as frequently) albeit in smaller portions as I did pre-surgery.
Back to our story. I had my most recent physical at the end of last August where I had gone up from 238lb to 274lb. Around this time I noticed my sister-in-law had lost some serious weight from one month to the next. She said she was taking Wegovy. I asked my doctor who instead gave me a sample of the 2.5mg Mounjaro that he had. Now what I write is my personal experience. Not everyone will have the same result. Almost immediately I found that I had the same LACK of appetite that I had post surgery. I don't know if it kick-started the effects of the surgery or if I just have reacted well (so far) to the drug. This question is how I found this thread in the first place. As of yesterday, I have gone down from the aforementioned 274lb to 225lbs. So, that's almost 50lbs in just under 6 months.
    Positives: See above.
Side effects: I have fortunately had none up to this point. The most I could say is that I need to go number 2 only a couple of times a week. I don't feel constipated though. So, this could simply be me having less food in my stomach. I have read that other people have experienced things like diarrhea, constipation, rashes, headaches, and lethargy to name a few. Also if you take insulin, liptor, etc, your doctor will want to monitor you for the first few weeks to make sure your blood sugar levels don't get too low. Again, everyone is different, so I can only tell you my experience.
Administration: 1x a week epi-pen like sub-dermal injection. While some people have complained of pain at the time of administration or itchiness the following day...again, I have had none of that. For me, the process has been painless. In fact, the first time I gave myself a shot, I thought I messed up as I didn't feel anything. Only a pinhead sized dot of blood let me know it was successfully administered. You keep the box (4 pens in box equaling a 1 month supply) refrigerated.
Dosage amounts: You start at 2.5mgs and increase it each 1-2 weeks. So you go on to 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, etc. The highest I think is 15.0mgs. I'm currently at 10.0 and can't even fathom going any higher.
Things to keep in mind (and this is important): 1. Because this is a new drug, there are no generic alternatives to offer, so, this can cost out of pocket over $1K a month. As the medication's current focus is for the treatment of Type-2 diabetes (and pre Type 2), having either of those conditions will help (but not guarantee) the chances of your insurance company covering it. 2. Due to the success many people are finding with Mounjaro, supplies are not always great. I've had to wait 1 week or 2 as they were on back-order.
What do you do once you've reached your goal weight?: This is an interesting question since the drug is so new. In speaking with my doctor, I suggested that maybe taking a maintenance dosage (say back to 2.5mg) may be the way to go. He said that has been the most used idea, but again, this product was only approved by the FDA 8-10 months ago.
That's about it. Sorry for the length of the post, but I tend to over-explain. If you have any questions about the surgery itself, I'd be happy to tell you all that I have experienced.

Congrats on your loss! I agree with medication possibly replacing surgery one day. I've seen posts from people that have lost 100+ lbs on medication...that is major.

I am in a similar place as you. Under my bariatric doctor's goal, but not underweight. My BMI is 26, so still "overweight", but I am happy at this weight and my bariatric and primary doctors approve.

I did an RNY revision to distal rny. I am 2.5 months out and was 266 two week before my surgery and today I was 216.4 (weight in the afternoon after eating). I have a toddler so not picking at her leftovers was an issue but the longer you stick with it the better it is! Also, you learn from your previous mistakes with your last surgery. I felt terrible after my first surgery but I’m taking my vitamins diligently and eating good and I’m so glad I did it! I’m going to start going to the gym soon too ?

    Hi everyone,
Booked my surgery a few weeks ago, for 3rd March 2023 (I wanted sooner, but my sister is also having done and to satisfy the downers in my family we are having it done together and she needs to save a little more)
Anyone else in the March 2023 club?
Look forward to hearing from some of you

You're in a stall which could last 10 days to a month. You will start losing again. Your body is just confused right now. I know people advise to stop weighing yourself but for some of us - it is a compulsion. I've weighed myself every day since my surgery...
Once you accept that stalls will happen in your journey - you won't get as frustrated at the scale. Good luck!

@L. Knight You know what, I hadn’t thought of that, only because I’m afraid of losing more of the pill “dust” since some of it is already lost in the crusher. But you make a valid point! Today has been a better day- still going good on the fluid intake- had a protein soup (16g) was horrid tasting but manageable. Not much of a celebratory birthday dinner but you manage!? Lol

I had the TORe procedure done 6/15 and I weighed 201, and this morning I weighed 188. I feel great. I haven’t had any issues at all since surgery ( nausea & vomiting) and healing was rather quick. I felt like my normal self after a few weeks.

Surgery was yesterday- man oh man- was not expecting the amount of pain and pressure today. Accompanied by bloating and nausea. Add to that- 3 feet of snow and no power! My throat is so sore as well. Crushing pills for the foreseeable future is not going to be fun- they all taste like, well horrible.. But- it’s done and I’m on the road to recovery and success! No regrets! @Mrs Roz - hope you’re doing well!
