Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm not a sleever but had RNY on 6/27 so I've been lurking your group a little bc we don't have a similar group and with you all being on the same timeline as me, it was nice to see some shared experiences. Plus, y'all are a really nice group. I did want the sleeve but had to go RNY for major GERD issues. I found it really interesting that a lot of you are having cravings bc one of the advantages of the sleeve is that when they remove the large portion of the stomach, the evil hunger hormones go away. A few of your posts are cute and funny and I'm wondering if it's actual cravings or just missing the act of eating. I literally could care less about food and, in fact I'm worried that when I go see my surgeon at my 1st post op tomorrow, he's going to put me on soft phase and I don't feel ready. Always, you're a fun group and hope you don't mind me lurking to see what everyone is going through. Congrats to us all for making a brave decision to take back our health!

Hi there! Don't be a lurker - join the party. you never know who is going to learn from you. When I started this I didn't even think people would answer me... then the nicest bunch of people started showing up one by one. Every day I laugh and I also see really good advice and things to prepare for or ask my doc about. I'm glad you are lurking and glad you are here! Welcome to the nut house ;)

I am not sure everyone experiences the change in taste buds. I did and I am. I think they go back and if I have to have another shake I might lose my mind... but the motto here is.... what doesn't kill you makes you thinner! I know that might suck right now but things are constantly changing. You might go back to loving them again before you know it ;)

Post op. I couldn't do shakes after day 1 and the premier vanilla I still can't think about eating. But I was able to get back on some shakes, basically after getting sick of broth and Protein Powder only.

I think comes and goes but mix it up as much as you can between the waters, shakes and broth.

Hello everyone! Today is my two week post op mark. I've been on puréed foods since the 1st. I have to say that cottage cheese is the best thing so far. I just tried some mashed potatoes thinned out with some gravy and it was good but I could only have 4 bites before getting full. I am still struggling with Protein goals. I can't tolerate the shakes post surgery, they make me feel sick. The GENEPRO will be here Thursday I hope that works out. I have been staying hydrated the best I can. It just feels like I'm non stop sipping on something just to get the required amount of Fluid so I don't dehydrate. Fourth of July weekend was hard. Everyone was having burgers and hotdogs and I was having 4oz of cottage cheese. Oh well. The best part was this morning when I stepped on the scale... I'm down over 20lbs!!

Welcome Tara! Glad to have you here.

I just hit my full liquids stage today, had a Protein Shake for Breakfast (Premiere Protein chocolate) and got about 7/8 of the bottle down before I felt satisfied. Had a delicious bowl of Tomato Soup for lunch (forgot to measure but I think it was about 4 oz) and been sipping Water all day. I found my mouth gets dry quickly.

I just tried ice cold Water, crushed ice, unflavored Isopure and 4 "true lime" (powered lime no sugars) packets. Very good and not bad for 25g Protein.

My taste buds are back to normal, it took like 10-12 days. I am still not really hungry but when I do eat things they taste like they always did. Today I had a turkey and cheese roll up for lunch, (1 slice of organic turkey breast rolled up with 1 slice alpine lace low fat Swiss) and it tasted good so I had the same thing for dinner! I think we're all just sick of Protein shakes...I have found the Premier Protein to be the best tasting out there, in my opinion!

Today is my 2 weeks mark! My checkup isn't until tomorrow afternoon but I've gone ahead and tried some puréed bean Soup and some mushy carrots. Both were good but neither filled me up. Still better than just broth and Protein drinks! Headed to the grocery store to stock up on items. I can't do eggs or any meat for two more weeks. But I am still excited to add grits and oatmeal and yogurt lol. My scale says I am down about 19-20 pounds. I was hoping for more but I know it will come off.

Was this homemade bean soup or store? I would kill for a good black bean soup or bean soup recipe that is tried and true. I would like to learn to make it myself. Sounds so good. Is the oatmeal baby food flake oatmeal or regular oatmeal. I'd kill for some of that....

So, I will be 2 weeks out tomorrow. Last night I met 3 of my very long time friends for dinner at our favorite Mexican food place. I missed having my margarita and usual cheesy enchilada but mentally prepared myself beforehand. Being on full liquids, my only real choice was tortilla Soup. They blended it for me and it was delicious! Was full after 6 or 7 spoonfulls. Kept telling myself that next time I could have some refried Beans and Quest and eventually a few bites of enchiladas.

Not totally easy but certainly not worth ruining my evening over lack of food. On to purees tomorrow!

Nice!

The pureed stage is the one I'm most nervous about and I'm not sure why. Texture is really a big deal for me, for that reason I avoided Jell-o. Jell-o has made me gag before so I'm hoping I can get through the puree phase without gagging too much.

I am thinking puree will be interesting. My surgeon also included thinned out mashed potatoes. Yummy. This weekend I plan to make that ricotta bake which everyone says is delish. When I eat Jello, I squish it into small bits in my mouth so it doesn't just slide down as I think that may make me gag too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
