Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

Hi, new here but was sleeved on the 28th. I just want to get to the soft food stage. Miserable right now.

@@susie66 I hear you... you're in the thick of the tough part... liquids are no fun. I haven't had an actual meal in 3 weeks... but I just keep telling myself the actual food part is coming - it'll be here sooner than you think.

What's helped me the most is trying to keep busy... trying not to think about food, and making sure to keep my mind on other things so I'm not focusing on my want for something with consistency.

Hang in there!

Well it is tough going through this during the 4th of July but the good part is - we'll all be right as rain by Thanksgiving, Hannukah (spelling I'm sorry), Christmas and New Years! When we take off our sweaters next year we will be looking good. I am so sick of Protein Shakes and not chewing - want those Beans, oats and cheese.... almost there... What doesn't kill us will make us thinner ;)

Another thing that keeps me motivated... I'm looking forward to foods I know that taste good that are within the diet/specifications. There's a great low-sodium Tomato Soup I'm really excited for.

What is the Soup - details please. I've been looking at the Tomato Soups and they are all pretty high in sugar so I have stayed away from them. I'd kill for some. The stuff they had me on before surgery was the worst tomato soup I ever had in my life. I couldn't even get past 2 of them... uggghhh powdered and terrible...

**What doesn't kill us will make us thinner ;)** - Maggie143

This is my new motto! Thanks, Maggie! This should get me through some more Protein Shakes :)

I just ordered some high Protein Soups. I need a break from the shakes. Everything seems so disgustingly sweet to me right now, I am dreaming of eggs and refried beans---anything savory that isn't broth!

I didn't realize my tastes would change so fast. I liked the shakes pre-op. But even sugar free cranberry juice diluted with 3 parts Water was way too sweet.

I am so glad I am not the only one that has taken a nibble on something! Granted it has been one bite and it is filling but I did have bite of chicken salads and cheese.< /p>

Good luck to everyone tomorrow! I am staying home with dogs!

I had to laugh this morning reading the posts. Its nice to know we aren't rowing the boat alone and we are all dreaming of chewing and saltier, savory days ahead. What happened to my sweet tooth? Too much of a good thing, I guess really is a bad thing ;)

John Bamber - could do that Soup - thanks for the heads up! A half a cup would meet my not over 6 gms of sugar soup requirement. I will look for that. I tried light chicken alfredo soup last week and lobster bisque. It was sooo gross. I couldn't get past an ounce.

I'm so surprised by how different my taste buds are regarding the Isopure Lemonade... I was able to drink that fine before the surgery, post-op it's gross. I hope my choice of liquid Protein Shakes don't have that same surprise for me - but they were much better tasting than the Isopure so I'm a little less worried.

Full liquids tomorrow - can't wait!

question for you guys a couple of weeks out - i gained so much weight while IN the hospital for the sleeve. they said it was just the IV fluids they pump you full of, but I went up 7 lbs over that 24 hrs. I'm now 3 days post-op and still havent lost it. I still have 2 more lbs to lose to reach my starting point. so frustrating.

Be patient your very swollen too. Your body is in shock and learning to cope. Once you get a regular pattern it will kick in.

I'm in the same boat. But I did pre surgical diet. The liquid diet is something of a challenge for me not because I am hungry but I don't feel hungry. The broth is yummy once I start. I feel like I have a hangover but no major pain or discomfort. I'm on day 5. The shakes go down fine but Fluid intake is about 58 oz at max so far.

Don't start your journey being frustrated at something you have no control over. You didn't do anything to gain that weight. Your body will release it when it no longer needs it. I think it was 5 days before I lost what I gained and now the real weight is coming off. I am 12 days post and very happy with things so far!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
