Mine is on the 21st also...I'm on my clear liquid diet and lost 8 pounds already..tomorrow is my last appointment with my doc before surgery...so exited!

question for you guys a couple of weeks out - i gained so much weight while IN the hospital for the sleeve. they said it was just the IV fluids they pump you full of, but I went up 7 lbs over that 24 hrs. I'm now 3 days post-op and still havent lost it. I still have 2 more lbs to lose to reach my starting point. so frustrating.

Although I'm weighing myself and am pleased with the results, I had already decided that I was really going to start watching the scale and recording 100% of what I eat after I went for my 2 week post-op appt. It's what my surgeon and one of the floor nurses suggested and it makes good sense to me. In 2 weeks, I've lost all the Fluid from the hospital, the bruises from the IVs and heparin injections are almost gone, my stomach swelling is clearly almost gone and I feel truly human. Give yourself some time...day 3 post-op for me: I was still on liquid codeine, was able to only walk around a 1/4 mile loop behind my house, could only tolerate tiny amounts of Clear Liquids, no bowel movement, I was bruised all over, my incisions hurt, etc, etc, etc. Now I'm at day 13: I'm walking 2 miles, I'm completely off the blood pressure meds that I've been taking for a couple of years, I'm eating full liquids plus some chicken and blueberries that I've been sneaking in. I had a sip of my husband's beer last night and I didn't burst into flames ;-) My incisions are nearly healed and really, my only complaint right now is that I want to CHEW MY food. I'm tired of liquids.

It will all happen for you too, I'm sure, but it's hard when you're ready to see some results. I had to keep reminding myself that I had a major surgery...it's no small thing to have 3/4 of your stomach removed. Hang in there, and we'll all be here talking ourselves through this together!

I just ordered some high Protein Soups. I need a break from the shakes. Everything seems so disgustingly sweet to me right now, I am dreaming of eggs and refried beans---anything savory that isn't broth!

I didn't realize my tastes would change so fast. I liked the shakes pre-op. But even sugar free cranberry juice diluted with 3 parts Water was way too sweet.

I ordered some of the soups that johnbamber suggested (thanks, johnbamber!)..I'm with you, everything is toooooo sweet. I want savory food!

@shelterdogs64. I am amazed you are off blood pressure meds so soon. That is great! I figured it will take losing a lot of weight before that happens. I see my surgeon next week as he is on vacation this week and I will ask how he expects that to work for me. I have been monitoring mine at home and the top number has decreased but not the bottom one.

I saw mine 4 days after, then next appt is about 6 weeks but I may go in sooner since I go on vacation before my 6-week follow up and I'd rather see him before I go

I got sleeved June 27, 2016! I'm down 13 lbs 1 week out :) my doctor required 1 day prior of liquid diet so I didn't lose much before surgery. I was approved and surgery was scheduled 6 days before Monday! Crazy!

I'm amazed, too! My husband is a Family Medicine doc and he says that over time, medicine has come to realize that the stomach doesn't just produce hormones that affect digestion, but also some that control or contribute to controlling other processes. So apparently getting most of it removed can help immediately with high blood pressure! I don't really care how it works, just glad that it does. My pressures were running VERY low while I was in the hospital, like in the 90/60 range, so my surgeon told me to skip my med and check my BP every few days. I last checked on Saturday and it was 120/78, I think? I'll take it!

Johnbabmer-I am dying for the scrambled eggs, too.

I am living in grape juice and Popsicles right now. Hopefully, my Dr will approve soft foods tomorrow. Have a great 4th everyone!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
