My NUT told me I can have a sip of champagne or white wine at an upcoming wedding (I will be about 4 months post-op), but never have liquor, beer, etc. I have no desire at this point to go against her wishes. One day I will probably try it, but I rarely drink anyway, so it's not a huge loss. Every time I think about alcohol, all I can see are calories and sugar now...not as appealing as it once was!

Just another data point, I can tolerate beer. I'm a Guinness drinker, which has different carbonation, but as long as I don't try to drink too fast it has never given me a problem. I had my first at probably 6 months out and could only finish half. I have tried wine, it gives me acid belly. I'm sure health and weight wise I would be better off not drinking, but my husband and I enjoy a drink with friends or on the back porch in the summer and I want to keep that. Something that I have to watch out for is the increased desire to eat at night, and the dampening of my conscience that keeps me in line.

I had the sleeve surgery so that I can have a normal life. I am 8 months out now. I am already at my MD goals with 100% of my weight lose achieved. I currently weigh 155lb at 5' 7. I have a glass of wine a night. It is counted into my daily calories and macros. I consume around 1100 calories a day and keep my carbs under 50 per day, so not a problem for me. I also work out religiously with over 13,000 steps per day. I didn't start this until also 6 months out, but it works for me. I have been able to continue to lose weight and have my wine. However, I include it in my fitness pal daily.

I was told no alcohol for a year, and I am assuming that is because I am not supposed to have any drinks with my meals for a year; alcohol on an empty stomach may go to your head fast! .As others have mentioned, follow your surgeon and NUT's instructions. We chose to have this life changing surgery for a reason, no need to screw it up now.

Had my first mixed drink at about 4 months out. Did perfectly fine, and a few at a time haven't been a problem for me. Word of warning...while I hardly follow the 30 mins before and 30 mins after principle with Water, you absolutely must do this with alcohol! Horrid problems will result with food and alcohol in the sleeve at the same time. I get dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out.

Carbonation has generally been difficult, as it can cause stretching and horrible gas, so I try to avoid beer or champagne except at special events. Your doctor will probably be pretty discouraging about consuming any alcohol, so this is where you will want to use particularly proactive trial and error to see what works for you and what doesn't, both on the scale and off.

I was allowed alcohol at 6 weeks. I go out probably every other week but my tolerance isn't what it used to be, I have about 2 drinks and I'm all set. As far as not making any progress while drinking, I've been steadily losing 2-3 pounds a week since my surgery in December. I just make sure my drinks fit in to my calorie goals for the day.

I started drinking about 3 months post surgery. Just some wine and vodka/cranberries. I took it easy, didn't drink much. Now I'll have wine about once a week, going out with friends. I'd rather drink wine than eat, personally. It hits me super quick and super hard, but I can't maintain a buzz for more than an hour after my last drink.

My advice is to just eat less on days when you plan on drinking...like skinny girls do. ;)

Just saw my surgeon today and asked when I could have red wine. He said I could start now just go easy because it may effect me differently. I'm 5 weeks out and had a glass of wine. Def hit me faster but tasted better than ever.

i think you should definitely drink, and eat cake and candy and french fries, heck just give in before you even start, alcohol is all sugar , very high in calories, hits you 7 times harder than it used to, and you have an incredibly higher chance of becoming an alcoholic as well. All in all, those are great reasons to just fail. Why bother dieting, come on, just eat a cake or two, i mean you dont really have to change your life, just diet for a little while then go back and eat like you used to. No one ever fails at this.

Drink up ! enjoy!

keep piling on the sugars, i mean why bother to go through this at all , im sure you dont really have to lose weight. Nah give up now save yourself the trouble.

@tracywag. They now have some IPA Nitros that have the lower carbonation like Guinness (if you want something lighter).

guiness? WHy on earth would you go through this and set your self up to just fail? Seriously are you all seriously deranged? Is your goal to just fail at this and stay obese? and fat? Do you like being obese?

Wow SteveHud if anybody ever needed a drink huh. Your positive words are so greatly appreciated. I'll stick to my surgeons recommendations. Maybe you should stick to your shrinks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
