So happy it worked out!

I haven't been approved yet. I have my final weigh in this week. Them they submit to insurance. I am hoping to have surgery in October. I told the coordinator I want to have it at Fair Oaks. I had the option and I felt it was a better one. Is it true their rooms are private?

I have a tentative date of 10/7/15!!! The insurance coordinator just called me! Since I had my initial sleeve surgery abroad they needed documentation of my follow up care to show compliance, which I have. I emailed her my nutritionist log and my post surgery blood work. Tomorrow I will drop off the body fat scan my surgeon did preop and 6 months post op. She said she is seeing the insurance companies ask for more documentation showing compliance so she wants to be sure to send the a complete overview of my sleeve history!!!

I don't have a lot of leave. I am just wondering because I am having a hernia repair too if that is gonna require a little more time.

FYI FMLA can take time. Plan ahead I waited until BCBS approved and only gave me about 8 days to complete process but it was close. Also if you have enough sick time - at least at VA you do not have to use FMLA and get paperwork filled out so this keeps it private. The other option is to just ask for 2 or 3 week of annual leave and no one will find out if you don't want others to know. Here my paperwork was seen by AO, Timekeeper ,supervisor , chief nurse and director. Unfortunately I work with all of them so my whole story was on those papers. The doctors office writes so much information. I don't care anymore but at first I did. Also once you tell your supervisor you are going to be sick then AL cant be used except as FMLA.

Thanks for the info. I'm at the VA too and decided to take AL for when I'm going to be out. The NM is pretty tough but she should approve it.

Thanks, I was out on maternity leave last year so I exhausted my leave and have about 27 hours of advanced leave I have to pay back. Between sick kids and snow days I am grasping for hours. One thing since becoming a parent my leave is not my own! I spoke to my boss and she is going to check with our 15 to see of I can work some comptime, in addiction I may take of LWOP and and the rest have advanced... Not having leave is so stressful.

I'm lucky I have plenty of AL on the books but zero SL. I couldn't imagine doing LWOP. Time seems to be passing slow, I'm ready to get this done!

OMG yeah LWOP is a beast! I may just ask for all advanced... It really sucks to be in a leave deficit. Maternity leave ate it up!

I am ready too! Do you have a tentative date? Where are you having surgery?

I thought about asking for advanced sick leave but the thought of being in a hole and "owing" them doesn't sit well with me. I def can't do LWOP!! The horror!! ????

I'm "suppose" to get a tentative surgery date on my 3rd appt that is coming up here in the middle of the month. At least that's what I'm hoping for so I can get to scheduling time off, etc. I have a feeling even though my NM likes me she'll have me jumping through hoops for time off AND she'll be nosey. I'm hoping for a table date of the first week in November or last week in October. That's when I was taking my AL anyway to go home to Arkansas. I THINK my surgery will be at the Sentara Careplex in Newport News, VA but to be perfectly honest I'm not completely sure. I live in Norfolk, VA and work at the VAMC in Hampton, VA.

I know one thing is for sure!!! I would get on that table today if I could!! Just feels like time is dragging and I'm a kid waiting on Christmas to get here.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
