Approvals with BCBS Federal

I thought about asking for advanced sick leave but the thought of being in a hole and "owing" them doesn't sit well with me. I def can't do LWOP!! The horror!! ????

I'm "suppose" to get a tentative surgery date on my 3rd appt that is coming up here in the middle of the month. At least that's what I'm hoping for so I can get to scheduling time off, etc. I have a feeling even though my NM likes me she'll have me jumping through hoops for time off AND she'll be nosey. I'm hoping for a table date of the first week in November or last week in October. That's when I was taking my AL anyway to go home to Arkansas. I THINK my surgery will be at the Sentara Careplex in Newport News, VA but to be perfectly honest I'm not completely sure. I live in Norfolk, VA and work at the VAMC in Hampton, VA.

@@babbs2299 I am ODU grad so I know the area well. I love Tidewater. Yeah, I am paying back advanced sick leave from maternity and will not be done with that until PP 24! At 4 hrs a pp it takes forever! We have some financial commitments coming up and I don't see LWOP as an option. I am hoping for 10/7 so I get the holiday lol!

I just called precertification department and they have no record of receiving my paperwork. Looks like it will be the 14th vs. the 7th.

How long has the insurance wait been for you?

It took 2 weeks for approval, but a month before I was notified.

It should not take then a month to notify that is crazy. I guess my coordinator expects a 2 week turn around because they have me tentatively scheduled based on it. The point of my post was what we talked about earlier, the office claiming they submitted and the insurance saying they have no record of my info.

Man! I hope I don't have the same trouble with the insurance that some seem to be having. Ive seriously considered self pay a few times but I guess I'll see this through.

I was submitted to (bcbs fed) insurance for approval on Sept 8, they told me it could take up to 3 weeks. They won't schedule my surgery until I am approved, and are vague about how far out they are scheduling. So I feel like I am in limbo with making any plans at all for the next couple months until I know when exactly this is happening.

So BCBS is showing it was submitted on the 11th. I was told it was going in on 3rd or 4th. So either it took BCBS that long to get it in their system or my drs office just submitted.... Either way it is looking like even the 14th of October is pushing it.

So I called precertification dept today. It looks like my file was just reviewed today and I have been approved. According to the rep, the dr. just looked at it this afternoon and it has not been sent back to nurse yet to be further processed in the system. I was submitted on 9/11. So I just have to wait for them to send the information back to my drs office.

Thanks! I am happy now here's to hoping I can start preop by the 30th for surgery on the 14th. My drs office hasn't been notified yet.

I was submitted on the 8th and got approved today. They have scheduled me for 10/5, which is -yikes- 2 weeks away. I was expecting it to be later in October so I am a little freaked out right now. But, the sooner I get this part over the with, the better so I am not delaying!

I can't wait to be in the same shoes you ladies are in. Tomorrow is my 3rd appt of 4 required by insurance. Can't get here soon enough! The MD's office told me that on my 3rd appt that she would give me a tentative table date. We'll see what happens in the AM.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
