June 30th Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm having the sleeve on June 30. I'm only 3 days into the liquid diet and it's awful! I feel so low on energy. My stomach is constantly hungry. I have the worst headaches. I hope it gets better.

Have any of you gone through pre-op testing yet? I'm scheduled for Tuesday and starting to get really nervous. I've been having anxiety and hyperventilating (I've had panic attacks before but this is new!)

My PCP thinks it's partly due to nicotine withdrawals too since I quit smoking a few weeks ago and haven't been using much of the nicotine replacements he recommended. Anyway...I'm scared about the pre-op tests and what all to expect. Also worried my hyperventilating may prevent them from doing the surgery. Plus my BP was up 140/70 and it's usually 120/70 with my meds.

He told me to take Xanax and start using the nicotine replacements again to see if the anxiety eases up but so far no luck.

I'm a mess. June 30th can't come fast enough. I just want to get this over with! :(

My pre-op tests today were a chest X-ray, EKG, and blood draw. No big deal at all. I'm June 30th too. I have blood pressures of 175/95 and I'm having the surgery. That's partly why I'm having it! I've had a lot of surgeries and they always give a little something ahead of time to make me relax.

The list is so long I couldn't keep track. It'll be a full day. Chest xray, bloodwork, upper GI (which I think is the endoscopy unless I'm wrong and that's two separate tests),

There are a bunch more I can't remember. A fasting glucose, meet with cardiologist for EKG and I think she mentioned a stress test. Also meet with pulmonary specialist for lung tests . Then I meet with anesthesiologist to discuss the plan they've set up for me after seeing test results. And meet with nut

My PCP mentioned they may give me a new med before surgery but I'm still worried.

I'm glad they are thorough. I don't want to be put under unless they know it looks safe but I also am worried if they cancel because they find something wrong and I know how I am...if they cancel I'll chicken out and never do it even if they give me a new date after fixing whatever prevented the first surgery

I didn't have all that. I did have an EGD (upper Endoscopy) and for the most part my dr. Says I'm pretty healthy. All of my illnesses is from my weight. I am scheduled to be sleeved June 30. Good luck with your test @ktprimo. I am sure all will be fine.

It seems as though the closer I get to surgery day the more my list of why I hate being fat gets longer. Maybe I wouldn't admit these things to myself before because being a healthy weight seemed to be something I'd never experience. And maybe if I'm really honest with myself I can admit I was working real hard at accepting and trying to love my-fat-self.

I won't bore you all with my full list but today the two things bugging me the most are:

1. How tiring it is just to exist but how freaking exhausting it is to add any movement or activity to my mere existence. For example, I am tired daily just sitting at my desk but if I have to move for one of my photo sessions (I'm a photographer) I feel like I could collapse at any moment.

I just got out of the shower to get ready to photograph a wedding tonight and feel like I need a nap and I'm dreading how tired I'll be after I finish at 11pm. I love my job but I can't wait to feel better doing it.

2. I am so damn tired of food. Maybe it's all the "food funerals" but I'm done. I wish my surgery was tomorrow. I used to hate hearing people say "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"...but now I want so badly to feel thin and feel good and I am freakin happy to give up food for good!! (Please remind me I just said that if I decide to whine during the liquid post-op diet!) lol

Anyone share my current feelings or have their own list of reasons they hate their "fat-self" now and can't wait for surgery results?

Or am I all alone in my self-loathing today? Lol

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
