Lower BMI Peeps out there please HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am pretty new to this site and am wondering how those of you with lower BMI's (32 or lower) did on your journey? Did it take longer? Was it harder? Did u have to exercise more, eat more to loose the weight? Any info you can give will be greatly appreciated!

Thx! ????

I started at 33 BMI and today (5.5 months post) I am 25.1 BMI.... almost in the healthy range! I have loved, loved this journey. I have never been depressed at all. I think I'm right on track and I have set my goal to settle in the 135-145 range (ideally 138). I believe I am right on track and so very happy I did this. I do exercise. I run/walk (and yoga). In the last twelve days, I have logged 41 miles. I think my running/walking/yoga has extremely helped my skin tighten. My cellulite in my legs has greatly improved and I'm actually wearing cute shorts this summer (first time wearing shorts in years!). Self pay $14,500.

Surgery: 12/31/14

High Weight: 195

Surgery Weight: 188

Today's Weight: 146 (weighed 145.8 after my run this morning)

I weighed 190 the day of surgery. I'm 3 months out and weigh 159. My goal is 125 (I'm 5'3). So far - it has been a wonderful decision.

I started with a BMI of 36.5. I lost 20 lbs pre-surgery, so on the surgery date (6/9), my BMI was 33. I had multiple co-morbidities, including diabetes, type I I. I am off all my diabetes meds already.

My recovery has not been bad so far.

I'm not 100% about BMI, but I am 5'7 and was near 200 pounds. Lost a few, am one month post-op and have been stalled for a week. But at 176 pounds, I look a LOT better so... whatever. Trying to be patient and at least I look somewhat average currently. I don't have a bikini-wearing trip for another 6 weeks (July 30 to Cali) so pretty sure I will be okay by then. The real trip is a Bahamas cruise Sept 19 and I want to be at goal weight by then. Right now I don't believe I will ever lose another pound, but I'm sure that's illogical.

Katie k Kitt

U will loose all the weight u want! If u work for it. For us who are lower BMI peeps it's just a little harder, but it takes less time. U can do it! Good luck!

I was 192 one week prior to surgery on 6/17/14. I reached goal of 138 at about 9 months.

I'm at 132 at my one year mark.

No exercise and no limitations on myself. I eat healthy and respect my body.

I'm starting some strengthening to firm up.

I doubt I'll go lower but we will see!!!

No regrets.

That's pretty much what I weighed the day of surgery and am just over a month out and 174.5. I cannot WAIT to be 159!!!! That's my "look decent in a bikini" weight. Luckily I have another 6 or 7 weeks til I'm in Cali on the beach. WOO HOO!

Hello! I am almost 5 months out. start of surgery i was almost 190, today i am 145, I may even be less I haven't weighed in over a week! i bought a size small dress! i think I'm like a size 6 in pants (i always had a big butt). and it took this long to finally hit my face so everyone is noticing NOW. i try and workout 3x a week but I have been busy the past 3 weeks with work and a summer class. But I do walk and bike ride on the days I can (no gym like weight training). But on average at the gym I do spin and weight train. I did hit the stall in the beginning but the MORE i ate the MORE i lost. I have NEVER EVER cheated. the only bad thing i did try was an ice with sugar in it and it made me sick. I am not used to all the sugar anymore and it makes my heart race. I have no never thrown up either. I am very careful BUT i do eat. I snack a lot which is bad I could most likely loose more and I don't drink enough Water. Its either Water or food I have no found my happy medium. any questions please let me know! I bake a lot ! I still have a sweet tooth but i substitute health ingredients such as almond meal, oat flour, stevia, Protein powder, things like that to make my Protein cupcakes and brownies and whatever else! i eat Quest bars also as Snacks. my downfall which is not a protein is fruit but hey live a little! any questions feel free to ask !!!

I'm only five weeks out, so I can't share too much yet. But I started out at BMI 30,5 and I've lost 31 pounds already. I haven't started to work out yet, because it's not until the last week that I regained my energy. Everything has been pretty smooth for me, besides that part - lack of energy and feeling dizzy. But I upped my Protein and Water and now I'm doing much better. So I'm going to start weight training and running.

I eat 580-620 calories a day and keep my Protein over 85. (In the last few days around 95-98), as I'm 6 feet and I also feel I do so much better when I keep my protein that high. Carbs are under 20 and almost only from vegetables. I haven't had a stall (yet) and seem to be losing as much as a lot of high BMI'ers. Sure, weight loss has slowed down from the first two weeks, but I still lose something every day.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
