Not losing anything? ?

I'm confused where some are getting the idea that the sleeve doesn't stretch..you know the sleeve is your stomach and your stomach can stretch back out if you do not eat properly, many doctors have advised of this.

As to how I got to the weight I was when I only ate when I was hungry, are you under the impression that every overweight person does nothing but eat all day therefore that is why they are overweight? I only ate when I was hungry, usually only 1 or 2 meals a day, when I did eat it wouldn't be something considered healthy by any means, but I actually didn't eat a lot. Despite what some people think your genes can play a lot in regards to your weight, all the women in my family have been overweight and it definitely didn't have anything to do with over eating.

My sister lost all her weight by starving herself, taking all kinds of crap and working out all the time, she went about it the unhealthy way. She lost it all about 8 years ago, but it's a daily struggle for her to keep it off. She's become a health freak and still hardly eats but she gained some of it back and it's a struggle to maintain what she is.

Sleeves don't stretch. Your capacity will increase as the swelling goes down leading many people to believe that they've stretched their sleeves.

When a sleeve is done, most of the stretchy part, or the fundus, is cut out, leaving the muscle. The muscle will not stretch. The fundus that is left over could stretch a bit if too much is left behind and there is a pattern of chronic overeating/abuse but that would be a lot of work and take quite a bit of time.

Where do I get this idea? Via the multiple surgeons I visited and the research I did for the 2 years prior to my surgery. Also, at almost two years out, I've had no increase in capacity. I can eat 1/4-1/2 cup max.

Where did I say I think overweight people sit around and eat all day? I simply asked how one would get to over 300 pounds eating only when hungry. I was a fat person, too. I've lots of fat friends and family. I know how it happened to each of us. :)

What was your typical daily diet? I'm curious.

I used to only eat when I was hungry. I could literally go all day without eating. It got me morbidly obese because my body held onto every calorie. Now I eat 3 meals regularly and a snack if needed. So far I have never had a stall.

I've read you say this before. I'm genuinely curious what your daily menu was typically that got you to this point. :)
coffee in AM. dinner probably Pasta with sauce and veg, or a pizza. Too much bread/sandwiches on the go. WAAAY too much cheese. It really was 50% disordered eating and 50% health issues. Tumor plus early onset menopause to name just a few. Although I was a vegetarian for years, I cleaned up my diet about 4/5 years ago as my allergies progressively got worse. Joined a gym. 3mths after joining gym & quitting soda, swollen feet went down. I got sick less, but still got sick. I got facial shingles. I gained and lost the same 35 -50lbs over the course of 3 years.

Thank you for this information. I also stopped losing at the 3 week mark and I'm freaking out! It's hard to understand how you could not be losing weight when you're eating so little. I was able to hear from my nutritionist that this is common and it's important to get in as much Protein as you can to prevent your body from going into "starvation mode". Apparently this is where your body holds onto everything it can. Having this surgery has been one of the biggest mental struggles I've ever had so it's helpful to hear I'm not the only one going through this!

Ack! I "liked" it for your response, not for your health issues. :D

Thank you for answering a personal question candidly. You know me well enough to know that if I was being judgey, I'd have included a LOT more sarcasm. ;) :D

Do you have a Nutritionist your surgeon set you up with? I guarantee the people who have had successful weight loss ate or eat every 2- 4 hours to keep their metabolism and energy up. You need to be getting at least 500 calories right now and eventually work your way up to 800-1000 months down the road. You do not have a normal body anymore. You have to pack as much nutrition you can into your little tummy to make it count, or frankly your body will suffer. You also will not lose weight to your potential. And NO, your sleeve will not stretch.

You said you only ate when you were hungry before. Well, here you are 3 weeks out from WLS, so obviously it wasn't working for you. Now is the time to listen to people who have been there and do what you need to do to make this surgery work for you. Or not. Your choice.

Silly :) You're doing just fine. Stalls are normal, especially at 3 weeks so don't freak out. Keep yourself as hydrated as you can, get as much Protein as you can and it will pass. I promise. And EAT ( the right things). It's good for you right now!

Oh, and I said AT LEAST 500 calories. If you can do 800 right now, that's okay. That's great. It may get harder as you start consuming more "real" food and feel more restriction.

I'm eating things like toast and soft boiled eggs and some mince or lasagne or spaghetti bolognese! I do feel the restriction but I find within an hour I can eat again! Although I am trying to keep 2-3 hours between food

I would suggest cutting out the carby food and concentrate more on lean Protein. For now, try to stay away from Pasta, bread, rice etc...protein is more filling so you should be satisfied longer. Carbs create hunger.

I've read about the 3 week stall but nothing about the 3 week gain :/...sorry to hi-jack UR post OP, but im genuinely concerned about what I could be doing wrong or what I can change. I have gained 5lbs after losing 23lbs...I follow my diet religiously, low carb, only eating two table spoons of food...I barely hit 500 cals. Should I be eating more? My plan says 500 cals so that's what I've been doing. I'm still working up to hitting Protein and Water goals I get about half of protein 35g and about 50 ounces of water per day. I went from losing near a pound a day to gaining 5lbs in one day. BM are good,..what can I do differently yall? I don't want to fail at this.

Never mind I just read up on the three week stall and it does include gain. Pulling myself together and continuing my plan! I wouldn't know what to do without this site!

Yeah, you aren't eating enough to gain ;) You're doing great! Just keep working on upping your Protein and Water, move a little and it will pass. And yes, I gain weight during stalls, too :)

If the weight fluctuations bother you, try only weighing once a week or 2. Those fluctuations will drive you crazy!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
