Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery June 2nd. The long wait makes me feel super nervous but excited all at the same time I've done my esophogram and all my medical stuff so I've been cleared for surgery. Now all I have left is my 4 nutritional appointments and my anesthesiologist appointment. I'm ready and I need this. Good luck my friends

Good luck with your surgery. I'm scheduled for June 1st.

My sleeve surgery is scheduled for June 1st. Only had to get cardiac clearance. Unfortunately, my Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana insurance refuses to pay for any type of bariatric surgery even if there is a medical need for it (as mine is). Guess the good side of having to self-pay is I didn't have to go through all of the psychiatric evals, 6 month diets, etc. ure do with our insurance would cover it though! I'm on Day 8 of the Pre-op liquid diet and I am craving food. Amazingly, not the sweets that I thought I'd crave. Today's craving is grilled cheese sandwich with sauted onions on it. Only good thing is I do think I'll adjust to the small portions post-surgery because I swear I'd be happy with two small bites of a sandwich right now! But, I know I'm doing this to improve my health and I have three precious little grandsons that are a big part of my motivation. I want to be around to see them grow up and be able to run around and play with them without having to stop every few minutes to rest.

I am self pay too but I still had to go through the psychiatric evaluation. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was fearing it to be! You got this!! It isn't too long until your surgery! Sending good thoughts your way!

What's the ultra sound for?

I had to have it to check for gallstones (which I had) and had my gallbladder taken out 5 days later.

June 1st coming too fast and too slow at the same time! Trying to get the house in order the kids schedules lined up and stock the fridge/freezer for the hubby to hopefully have an easier time. Praying for a speedy recovery, and looking forward to some normalcy around here. Anyone else prepping and stocking like crazy?

My big question is what are ya'll using for the clear Liquid Protein? I know Isopure is an option but I was looking for other options. Thank you so much!!

@Licia'sjourney - I ordered some sample packets of Syntrax Nectar from mybariatricpantry.com. There are a few packets that could easily mix with Water, that you could use as a clear liquid. Good luck on your journey!

Oh yes! I have been actively prepping for two weeks now. My surgery is also June 1st and I can't agree with you more it is both too fast and too slow simultaneously! All really have left to do is clean the house, everything else is in order. I think I have enough stuff to last 2 weeks post op, plus I am sure my family will do anything they can. I am nervous and unbelievably excited at the same time. I find myself constantly day dreaming. It's a good thing I am on summer vacation because I am way too distracted!!! Haha ????❗️❤️

I got cleared by the psych and NUT and pre op nurse today. Meet with the surgeon tomorrow then I'll FINALLY get a date. My Dr doesn't give you a date until everything is done except checking in the hospital. Makes it all kinda nerve wracking having no idea when it'll happen.

@@mclorrie - Thank you so much! I'll try that. I bought a couple of the Isopure's to see if I am going to like them. The flavors they have just don't do it for me though. lol

I saw my surgeon for the first time today and they gave me my surgery date!!! I was so surprised. I was not expecting to get it today. Looks like I am a June sleever. 06/24!!! I'm very excited and nervous!!

My surgery date is 6/22 . I finished the 6 month diet in March, got approved by insurance in April and have to wait until June 22 for my surgery. It's been the longest wait ever.

Hello. I am scheduled for June 8th. I had my last office visit with the surgeon on yesterday. It was so much information to take in I started feeling overwhelmed. The process for me went really quick and smooth. I have prayed and I am very comfortable with the decision I have made. I wish everyone success.

You're one day ahead of me. I'm on June 9th. I know this is what I need to do, and I'm confident I'm in good hands. I will be thinking of you as I prepare myself. Wishing you a quick recovery!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
