Happy Thursday morning gang.

I'm avoiding doing homework. Oi. I know somewhere I posted on here that I'm in school full-time and work full-time. Add to it a 5 year old kid and taking on the very real challenge of losing 180 pounds, I'm feeling a little stretched.

Mind you my weight is at a stand still for the last week. And that's my pattern. I drop a pound a day for a 5 or 6 days in a row and then I hold steady for 7 or 8 days. When I'm dropping weight I'm on clound nine. When I've been holding, like now, I'm so frustrated! When will I learn?!

So today, as far as food and exercise go, I'm trying to dig a little deeper, stay focused and eat under 1000. I'm going to workout a bit more than usual too, see if I can make the damn scale budge.

Thanks for listening. I know this weight loss moves in cycles...

Juli

Julie I read somewhere that you lose pounds for a couple days then you stop, then you lose inches for a couple days. It keeps rotating. What do you think? Anyone else think this is true?

I often wonder if my ice tea addiction is holding me back a little. I drink it unsweetened with nothing in it. I drink alot maybe 5,8 ounces glasses a day.

I think stress and being stretched to thin can have an impact, too.

Hi Nurseamy!

You have had 4 fills? I'm jealous. LOL, My doc is so conservative, I had to wait 3 mos for my first one. Juts had it on Tuesday, he put 1.5 in my 4 band. I am having a little bit of soreness around the port site (probably because of the huge needle) and I am defeinetely having some restriction, FINALLY!!! I was at a sstandstill with my weight for a few weeks and I've already lost 3 lbs more since my fill!

I guess it's sort of like OHJuli with the stop and go weight loss.

So Hair loss can be attributed to lack of Protein? I thought I was getting plenty of protein but this past weekend I was pulling hair out by the handfuls. It has slowed down now but it was rather disconcerting. :-( I have a second fill next Wednesday so I was just going to mention it then but if I need to do something about it earlier I guess I should call the office. Suggestions?

Ok So Here Is My Story. On Monday I Had My 3rd Fill Not Sure How Much I Had In There Never Really Asked The Dr. So Any Way Choked Down 3 Cups Of Water Was Really Really Really Tight, But I Thought Thats Ok I Want To Be Tight Right? Wrong I Live About An Hour And A Half From My Dr Office I Left The Dr Office Around 1 And By 4 I Was Throwing Up My Spit. By The Time I Got To The Er I Had To Wait 4 More Hours Before I Got Some Of My Fill Taken Out. By That Time I Was Pbing About Ever 20 Mins Or So On Nothing It Sucked! So Make Sure You Do Not Leave The Dr Office If You Fill Way To Tight. Ask To Have Some Taken Out You Do Not Want To Wait For Hours At The Er. Doing Good Now Back To Normal.

I would wear black because I've always been told black makes you look thinner . But then again I like bright colors now that I am a bit thinner. Just remember to eat slowly and chew and chew and chew. Avoid the bread because it can get stuck so easy. I'm excited for you. Let us know how it goes.

Ok so I called and made an apointment to get an unfill on Monday. Not a complete unfill, but some of this needs to come out.

You know what I had for lunch today? Two saltines with some Peanut Butter on them. Thats all I could eat! I'm telling you, four bites. I know that I don't have a calorie minimum here but I don't like being this tight. I like being able to eat stuff. How else am I supposed to get in nutrition and good stuff? I just want good restriction, but not a ton. When I can't eat anything more than a couple of bites like this I feel cranky and deprived. This being too tight is not for me. DH says I'd probably loose a lot and then in a few weeks it would be looser, but I reminded him I don't like the pound a day weight loss (Yes I know I am crazy) and I am aiming for 1-3 pounds a week instead. Well, at least I can get Protein Shakes down!

I have been checking in on you Marchie -- hope you don't mind...

My doctors nurse said to take Biotin to prevent hair loss. And she strongly recommended B-Complex as well as your normal Daily Multi-Vitamin.< /p>

Happy Flag day everyone! Gina

I take a Vitamin thats especially formulated for skin, hair and nails. Or just for one for hair. Mine has all the basics, plus lots of the B Vitamins and high levels of Biotin as well. So its an all in one thing-- easier that way. But with mine I have to have somthing other than Water to down it with because it tastes nasty! Or get a coated one, that would help too. Mine is just a large caplet. But it does help, I think.

You also really need to get your Protein in. For hair there are some other things you can do to help protect it. (I'm vain about my hair and trying to grow it longer). Avoid heat! Heat is bad unless its a heating cap for a hot oil treament. No blowdrying or curling irons or straighners etc. Cover with a hat or scarf if out in the sun. Wash it in water that is only warm and rinse it with water that is as cold as you can stand. Wash it less. Try washing it with conditioner only (you need to let the conditioner sit in there for about ten minutes and then rinse for a while). Oil the ends of your hair and other dry parts with jojoba oil or coconut oil. A tiny bit goes a long well and it helps with dryness. sleep on satin pillowcases and with hair braided or wraped or help avoid tangles. Limit brushing hair. Use a detangling comb instead, starting at the bottom and working your way up. And of course, ask your doctor! It could be a sign of other issues in your body as well.

uhhh-

I just had my first real PB. Thank God that I read about it here otherwise I would have gone to the hospital. I guess that I haven't quite gotten used to my new restriction. I finally got a fill on Tuesday after waiting 3 months and I can really feel the difference. Not too tight but just right.

I was so hungry that I nibbled on my daughters dinner while waiting for my own to be done so when I finally took a bite of my own that was it. It took me like 45 minuted to get over it. Well that will teach me!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
