Marchies in June

I've seen all 3 of those items one people lately. I think they're good to go. Of course it's been years since I've been concerned about what's in fashion. I just wanted what fit.

Okay Gang

I spent the weekend at the pool, at the zoo and for a bike ride dragging the kid behind me. Whew.

But Friday I bought a new bike. A road bike with skinny tires...etc. Saturday I bought bike shorts with the pad, and gloves and an odometer and a mirror and and and....hehehe.

I've hooked up with a group of women riders and they've been very welcoming. I go out with them on Tuesday for my first group ride! Tomorrow I'm going to shoot for 20 miles, I've only done that amount once before and I was beat afterward. I'm hoping the new bike will help make it easier.

I'm still fill less but I'm keeping my 2.5 pounds a week average going.

Have a great week everyone!

XO Juli

I keep playing with the same 3 lbs for about a month now. Go for a fill in 2 more weeks, but some days I can hardly get anything down and then the next I have no limit it seems. Very confused????????? Plus I am am having some real problems with being backed up. Had a very painful week end and then when things did get moving I felt even worse??? :omg: I eat a lot of things with fibre and such (I though) but I do have trouble getting in a lot of Water. Need to start taking benifiber every day I guess. Any other sugestions. I find it really hard to get much fruit or veggies in I just don't have the room. This week I did eat a lot more fruit and vegies than I have been and look what happen, do you all think it is connected?? I am very confused as to what to eat.:help:

Please be honest. Are the following still appropriate/fashionable?

1) Skorts - shorts in back/skirt in front-kaki

2) Capri overalls - denim and kaki

3) Denim mini skirts - above the knee

If you want honesty here goes - I only like skorts on children under 10. There are some really cool running skirts that have shorties underneath. Running Skirt, GymGirl, MarathonGirl, Nicole DeBoom, SkirtSports, TRIKS But the skirt in front and shorts in back just screams suburban mom.

capri overalls - no - especially not in denim. Again really cute on children under 10 and worn constantly by suburban moms (although not as cutely)

Denim mini skirts - this is where age comes in. Are you in your young 20's? in that case then I see a lot of girls wear calf length tights under denim miniskirts - it looks cute. If you are older than say 28 I would pass on the denim miniskirt.

I know none of us wants to drop a fortune on clothes as we are losing weight. But you know what - most of us got fat because we put ourselves last on the list or we dropped completely off the list. Even if you just pick up a few stylish items from Target it will make you feel so much better.

Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I shouldn't wear some of these clothes. I'm a little out of touch with fashion, I've just been wearing what I have or get from someone else.

Please be honest. Are the following still appropriate/fashionable?

1) Skorts - shorts in back/skirt in front-kaki

2) Capri overalls - denim and kaki

3) Denim mini skirts - above the knee

I'm not trying to be a fashion icon or anything, but I don't want to be totally out of it. I need to look at some magazines!

Sophie-

Your instincts were right. You are right on the money to think that these things are outdated.

They are. I have to agree with Hazelbunny's assesment.

There is nothing wrong with being a suburban mom ( I'm a suburban mom LOL); I don't think that is the main reason not to wear these things.

The main reason, in my humble opinion is that these otems are ok for children but not for an adult.

#1 - two tone multi shorts not ok.

#2 - overalls of any kind not ok - unless your a farmer

#3 - mini skirts-not ok if you are over 30, try a more flattering length, like right below the knee or right above it -depending on fabric and cut

Hurrah for you! Congrats on your weight loss! Treat yourself to a couple of new "staple items" you deserve it!!!! Ilove watching shows on TLC like What not to wear, etc. They have real people, with real shapes on the show. They show them what types of things look best with their shape, size, coloring, etc. Also, a freind of mine at work said that Oprah had a great show about what looks best on what body types, maybe you can find some tips on her site. Thanks for being so brave!!

I am a suburban mom too. I guess I was referring to the stereotypical suburban mom - ie - I pour every ounce of myself (finances, energy, and time) into my children and can't be bothered to consider anything other than comfort and cheap price when it comes to my own clothes.

Another way to describe it - if you arrive somewhere and your children look like they came in a limo and you look like you got dragged in by the Greyhound bus - then you are a victim of suburban mom syndrome.

I was thinking some suburban moms where going to be offended. :)

I was a party with some citified, dressy women, they were talking about "mom jeans" and I was like, "what's that?" and they said, "you know when a woman just gives up and leaves the house wearing old, tired jeans."

I was wearing old, tired jeans.:embarassed:

Hopefully soon gone will be the days when "clean and not stained" are not the only concern I have for how I dress. I hear people try on different pairs of the same kind of clothes, like black pants, to see which one they prefer. I'm used to buying whatever I could get to fit!

As an aside, I was wearing some new shorts, in a new size. After I left the potty, I had to double check that I had them fastened. Why? They felt like they were going to slide off me, but they were buttoned and zipped!

I'm a bit scared to buy the next size down, but I need to get a few pair for vacation in August. I worry that if I wait until then there won't be any in the stores! Also, I want to pick up a few things a week between now and then instead of going hog wild...

Oh the problems of having to buy clothes! ;):) I'm so happy to have such problems.

Thanks guys! You spared me from making some major fashion fouls. I was so excited when those things fit again - but then I got to thinking - I was in my late 20's when I wore those things!! I appreciate the advice. Now I need to think about those "mom jeans". How will I know??

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
