sleeve reset was successful

The way I read it, the OP did not do the 5 day pouch test, but rather went back to basics.

I personally can't hack doing the 5 day pouch test, but i can validate that going back to basics... really making sure you get enough Fluid, don't graze/snack, watch portions, eat Protein first, veggies second, avoid junky carby food - REALLY WORKS.

I also think the 5 day pouch test can really help people get "reset" - I just can't handle it is all. :)

Hunger hormones are permanently reduced (I believe) but be sure that after the honeymoon period, many of us get some hunger back. I am almost 4 years out and what I would say is my hunger is more like what normal people have. I get hungry when it is time to eat but i am no longer starving 24/7 with that high drive to eat. I find that avoiding those junky carbs are KEY to manage hunger - sweets and chips increase my appetite for example.

@@tamirn are you in maintenance? Your questions are good ones, but don't have short answers. The hunger hormones are tremendously impacted/reduced by the sleeve procedure. I went from 24/7 drive to eat/constant hunger to a more appropriate appetite. However, if you dont change habits, you will still feel hunger/desire to eat once you exit the honeymoon phase. You have to follow the rules pretty closely to get best results. I don't think size of sleeve has anything to do with hunger. People obsess about sleeve size and I think it is the wrong question...

I have to share this. I finished 5 day pouch test today and weighed in at a 6.4 pound loss. This proves to me that diet is everything in weight loss. I regained 33 pounds while vigorously exercising 5 days per week. This does not mean I will stop my exercise routing for health, toning and help with loss but diet is the real key. I am going to seriously consider the 5:2 diet to help with get the rest of the weight off and help maintain. Another plus has been a feeling of power over constant carb craving and the power of Portion Control. Happy to be back on this site.

I can't get focused. I keep eating pita chips....I'm going to just start now and forget about trying to wait until tomorrow.....u said it Diet is the key

You will get alot more input if you post in a new thread, probably in the pre surgery questions forum is a great place to start.

Don't wait start right away. Just focus on getting through this one day meeting Protein goals, Water goals, and keeping carbs low. Go to sleep tonight feeling good about what you ate that day. Then the next day same thing. Once a few days past it starts getting easier. So far down 6.4 pounds and will weigh in tomorrow hopefully adding to this total. Good luck!

that's what I have done.....got all my Water and just finished Protein shake. I will check in tomorrow. I m made at myself because I keep falling off. I was so dedicated before I went to Paris. Gotta reprogram my mind

I fall off easily too! I'm heading to the store this weekend to get back to the basics ... Lots of meal prep, Protein Shakes for every day ... I wanna get back to where I was and then some. I'm two years out and want to be back on track ????????

In October, roughly 16 months after my surgery, I had been maintaining within 1 pound either way of my goal weight of 145 for nearly 6 months. At a kid's party, I avoided all the sweets, but ate a bunch of breaded chicken nuggets over two days - and nothing else out of the ordinary. My weight went up by 3 pounds, and I decided to get a handle on it immediately. BUT..... It wasn't so easy this time. For three weeks I tried to knock it back down, doing just what I had been doing before, but my weight wouldn't budge, except to bounce in the 148-149 range. No need to panic, right? Yeah, but 3 can lead to 5, which can lead to 10, and THEN you might have a problem because now it's not coming off as easily as before. that's when I figured out that my "honeymoon" was over, and I'd have to work harder than I did before. So I decided to give the 5-day Pouch Test a try.

I followed all the rules of the 5DPT to a tee, and at the end of 5 days my weight was only down about a pound. But I found that my sleeve was getting full sooner and I was staying satisfied longer. Which is exactly what the website promises! And it helped me break some bad habits (tons of peanuts and pistachios) that had crept in. It also reinforced the "no drinking for 30 minutes before or after meals" rule. It's been a little over a week now, and the restriction is still working. My weight is still bouncing around, but it's starting to work it's way back down. This morning I saw 145.9 for the first time in about 6 weeks. One more pound and I'll be happy! I'll keep you posted.....

By the way, "Sleeve Reset" and "Bariatric Reset" are much better names than "Pouch Test".

to the OP- we have almost the EXACT same stats, including height etc! i am in the same place right now. lowest was 165, settled around 172. started a new job, had a VERY trying semester of grad school and managed to gain 6 lbs. not much, but it ALL sits right around my middle like a gross spare tire.

your post and the responses were enlightening. i am planning a reset for next week and going to go as hard as i can until i see movement. i too have found myself grazing AND eating a lot more food than i should. i also have been hitting the soda, which i KNOW is wrong for me.

going to just try and really focus. my stressful semester is pretty much wrapped up, and i decided to take a bit of an easier track in my grad program so that should help. settling into my new job so that is also better. ready to re-focus on ME.

btw- Santa is bringing our entire family a cushy membership to our local Y for Christmas! that will help too..

Update: The restriction from the 5-day pouch test appears to still be working. I can't hold as much food as I could before and I stop eating sooner. I'm not munching as much or as frequently, and I broke the habit of eating fistfuls of peanuts every 20 minutes. The hunger is starting to return, though, but it's easier to keep the beast at bay longer – at least for now. I'm not really losing weight, but I'm also not gaining. Remember on our previous diets how "the last few pounds are the hardest"? Well that's where I live now. And since my honeymoon period is apparently over, my body doesn't ignore calories like it used to. So I still need to figure out where I can cut them without being hungry all the time. Statistically, a 10% bounce is expected from our initial weight loss total. In my case that would be around 12 pounds. But I'm fighting like hell to try and keep that at 3% or less, and then eventually muscle it back down to where I want to remain.

hi how has it been going. I fell off and need to do reset. My mom is very ill so that has thrown me off. I am refocused and starting to to do another reset. I will be posting my stats weekly

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
