November Surgery Dates Anyone? Let's Connect!

Hi.

I'm Deb from N. Carolina. I started this whole process back in August after a visit to my regular doctor. After way too many years of yo-yo dieting and never getting the job done, it's all caught up to me. Now I'm heavier than I've ever been, my BP is on the rise and so is my cholesterol. My arthritis is terrible in my knees and ankles. I retired a couple years ago and I hate it because I can't do any of the things my husband and I talked about doing at this time in our lives. It's time to move forward.....

My surgery is scheduled for Nov.11th. I'm excited and scared at the same time. I'm hoping that others that are getting ready to have their surgery in November might be interested in connecting to create a support group. Let's make this journey together and be there to support one another no matter where we live or what our ages may be.

I've been looking at many of the other discussions and some are great, but I have a hard time keeping up with all of them in different places. I'm wondering if a group like this would make it easier to keep tract of whatever we want to talk about.

What do you think????

I look forward to hearing from folks.

Deb

I'm so glad to have all of you there.those of you that had surgery a few days before me are such a big help. Today's Saturday and surgery was Tuesday. Afternoon. I do feel better today than yesterday. The walking does help with the gas, and I haven't had anymore nausea. The pain really isnt bad either. I had chicken broth last night which tasted so good. I did learn a lesson about how little my new tummy will hold. I drank a little too much over a really short period of time and was in terrible discomfort. Lesson learned!

Is anyone taking their gummy vitamins yet? My doc had me stop all vitamins and supplements until I see him next week. Is that the same for you all?

We aren't allowed the gummies because they don't have all the vitamins we need in them. I had bought a big bottle of Opurity multivitamins, but they were so awful I can't take them at least for now. I have another brand that I got at Walgreens - Optisource postbariatric - and they are not bad at all. Flintstones chewables aren't bad either. We were told to start them right away as well as the calcium (but 2 hours apart). Of the different calcium things I've tried (Wellesse liquid, Bariatric advantage, and others) the ones I like best right now are Calcet Creamy Bites because they are lighter & fluffier than most and so don't sit so heavy on my tummy.

I was told to go with chewable vitamins or liquid. So I went to Vitamin Shoppe and bought the Bariatric chewable multivitamin by twin lab. I also bought Twin labs liquid B Complex 50 and the B-12 sublingual dots. There all pretty easy to take. My Bariatric Center recommended taking chewable Tums for 8 weeks as a calcium source and for the stomach (gas, etc...) and then moving to calcium citrate. We also were advised NOT to take anything in a gummy form due to our new pouches.

Its good to hear everybody is doing well. Its interesting. If you look at our conversations 3 weeks ago we were all pressing through the 2 week liquid diet, dealing with anxieties about the surgery, and dealing with the stress of our everyday lives!! Now we are talking about vitamins!! :-) :-). I guess you can tell by our conversations that things do get better one day at a time.

That's encouraging :-) :-)

My surgery is on Nov 19th, all of you have really helped me know what to expect. I am almost there 3 more days. ???? A little scared but you all help me not to let the unknown paralyze me with fear. Thank you.

Hi all the November surgery dates. This is Jenn. I haven't posted since my surgery on November 4th so I thought I'd update. I had two rough nights in the hospital mostly with terrible stomach distension from gas which was painful and walking didn't seem to help a whole lot. I was reluctant to drink the broth and jello they brought to me. But by the day I went home I was feeling better and from my first full day home I was able to get in my 64 ounces of water and two protein shakes plus my vitamins. I just focused on 8 ounces of fluid per hour and that works for me . Still adhering to the same regimen to get my fluids in and protein. I'm 12 days out and I still just have a little pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. So I can't complain I have had no nausea and I'm thankful for that I think it's made all the difference in my recovery. Good luck to everyone who is recovering and yet to have surgery

My day is tomorrow at 9:30.

IKR! My family ate tacos tonight. Not only did they smell fabulous but the crunch was getting to me. I really thought about swiping the 7 year olds!

@@bluedreams86 - Smooth sailing to you too! Let us know how you are doing once you get to the other side!

In the pre op holding pattern. Should go at 2. Here we go!

Is anyone else having to force themselves to eat? Any food I'm allowed to have sounds terrible and Id honestly rather eat nothing which is not possible. Just wondering if anyone else is going through the same thing.
