  1. Dabliss I often feel like there are times when I can eat more and other times where I can eat as much the same goes for drinking liquids. I constantly worry about stretching my pouch. I'm surprised at the amount of water I can drink sometimes. Now if I could just remember my third calcium in the day I'd be doing okay I always forget it. Glad to hear you're hanging in there thanks for getting back to me.

Hello chrysalis 2 butterfly. How are you? Did you have your surgery yet? Let me know how you're doing. I had my surgery November 4th and I've been doing really well with my recovery. I've only had nauseousness three days in the last month which one episode of throwing up some turkey after Thanksgiving. Having some trouble getting in my 3 mushy meals a day because I'm just not hungry. But I am getting my 64 ounces of fluid in and two protein shakes. Trying to incorporate at least lunch and some dinner even if it's just a bit of yogurt. I use plain yogurt with vanilla and stevia added makes it pretty good. I just usually eat a little bites of meat when my family is eating dinner. And the 30 30 rule is kind of tough. The not drinking 30 minutes before 30 minutes after eating real food I keep forgetting. I'm already a little sick of taking the vitamins but I'm making myself do it and I have forgotten a couple times cuz it still hasn't gotten into a habit for me. Please let me know how you're doing was just wondering when I saw this post from before since you said you didn't have much support. Take care
  3. Hi all hope everybody's doing well managing your challenges knowing it gets better each day. I haven't posted in a while but I thought I'd update how I'm doing. I'm 4 weeks out and I'm really amazed how well I'm doing. I'm able to get my two protein shakes and 64 ounces of water in each day and that amazes me. I'm on the mushi's phase so I'm supposed to be getting in three small meals a day plus two shakes. I am finding it very difficult 2 actually eat three small meals at all. I'm just not hungry. So I really do just eat a bit of cheese around lunch time and then some sort of moist meat at dinner time when the rest of my family eats. Haven't eaten breakfast yet. Also the 30 30 rule of no liquids before eating and after eating is a little challenging especially since I'm not eating solid food all the time. But I'm very lucky I've only had nauseousness maybe 3 times in the last month but I did throw up once the day after Thanksgiving when I ate some too dry Turkey ... That was not fun I won't be doing that again so I am being very careful. I've lost 29 pounds in 6 weeks that includes my two week pre op diet so I'm happy with the results so far. I feel like I'm in a bit of a stall I hope by next week I'll have lost more weight. Haven't been motivated to go to the gym yet but hopefully I'll go do the treadmill some tomorrow. That's about it for me just trying to keep tabs with the group. Take care everyone
  4. Hi all the November surgery dates. This is Jenn. I haven't posted since my surgery on November 4th so I thought I'd update. I had two rough nights in the hospital mostly with terrible stomach distension from gas which was painful and walking didn't seem to help a whole lot. I was reluctant to drink the broth and jello they brought to me. But by the day I went home I was feeling better and from my first full day home I was able to get in my 64 ounces of water and two protein shakes plus my vitamins. I just focused on 8 ounces of fluid per hour and that works for me . Still adhering to the same regimen to get my fluids in and protein. I'm 12 days out and I still just have a little pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. So I can't complain I have had no nausea and I'm thankful for that I think it's made all the difference in my recovery. Good luck to everyone who is recovering and yet to have surgery
  5. Nicole when you're in pre-op tell your anesthesiologist when he comes to see you that you want to have something to calm you down. Once you talk to your surgeon then the anesthesiologist will give you something that will really calm you down that's what I did. Good luck to you
  6. Where I had on my clear liquid diet was sugar free jello, Powerade zero, chicken broth, decaffeinated tea and of course water. Hope this helps good luck to you on the 6.
  7. Thanks Dabliss111114 for the well wishes and micmt good luck tomorrow.
  8. Lashante23 will be thinking of you in the morning. Prayers to you good luck
  9. Lashante23 good luck with your surgery in the morning. You got this.
  10. Hi Jeffrey thanks for asking the cold is a little better. I rested all day yesterday and drank tons of fluids , I've been gargling with salt water and taking it easy today. I think I'm going to be okay for surgery. It hasn't moved to my chest yet that was what I was worried about. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better and maybe I won't even mention it to my surgeon. Also thank you Schwinn girl 1987 for welcoming me to the group. Good luck to you Jeffrey coming up on Tuesday.... keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
  11. New Jeffrey... We're both looking forward to the fourth. These last few days are going to fly. I have one problem I have a terrible head cold. I am afraid they might make me postpone surgery . Resting this weekend drinking lots of fluids taking cold medicine and zinc hoping this doesn't get worse. I'll die if I have to wait and reschedule. I've been waiting too long already. Good luck to you..... these days leading up to surgery.

Hi chrysalis to butterfly I just went out and bought several things for my two week post op. I'm on clear liquids and protein shakes for the first 14 days. My diet is going to consist of hot tea , hot broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, and protein shakes mixed with almond milk. I also have some vitamin water 0 stocked up to give me a change up from just water. So right now I'm all set for the first two weeks. I've developed a little cold yesterday and today I'm taking zinc to help shorten the length of a cold and the severity. I'm hoping it doesn't move to my chest from my head because I don't want to have to reschedule my surgery because of being sick. Still having trouble sticking to my protein shakes but I'm doing it anyway. It's so hard not to reach for the familiar snack or eat dinner with my family when they eat. Tuesday will be here before I know it and I feel pretty confident I'll be well enough to have the surgery. Ttyl

Hi chrysalis 2 butterfly I think it's so great have this form has people from the UK. I live in the US in the state of Maryland. That's about an hour south of Washington DC which is our capital. My bypass surgery is November 4th. I'm sorry you don't know which procedure you're having yet that's got to feel concerning. Congratulations on getting to your goal weight that must have been really hard especially over 2 years. I started my journey in May 2014 and my insurance required a three-month Dietary guideline with lots of pre op testing. I just finished my last test yesterday and I'm all ready for surgery on the 4th. A little scared mostly about the post op diet and possible complications. I am nervous about telling my twin 12 year olds when I'm going back to surgery just how serious the surgery is. I think I'll have a talk with them on Monday the day before my surgery. I don't want to worry them too much. My pre op diet is for protein shakes per day with one small one cup meal of protein and produce for dinner . It's been hard to stick to but I've been doing okay. Still haven't given up the coffee but I've cut back to one and a half cups. Think I'm going to stop this weekend completely to prepare for Tuesday. Stay in touch I think it would be neat to be in touch with someone from the UK. I love everything English.
  15. Hi I'm Jenn I have surgery in Fairfax Virginia November 4th. Would love to keep up with anyone on this thread. Get in touch. Good luck to all with their upcoming surgeries.
  16. Congratulations for jumping in! Good luck!

    Surgery date November 5th

Hi I'm a Jenn too.... My surgery is November 4th I live an hour south of Washington DC in la Plata Maryland . But my surgery is in Northern Virginia at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax Virginia. It's about an hour and 20 minutes from me. But the surgical group is the center of excellence and that's why I chose them. Good luck to you on the 5th I'm trying hard to stick to my pre op diet but it's tough. I just had a party for 70 at my house yesterday for Halloween and have so many leftovers including sweet leftovers it's torture not to give in. Wish me luck and I'll do the same for you. Take care... Jenn
  18. Congratulations on this 6 pound weight loss. I just weighed myself yesterday and lost 5 pounds so far. But its hard sticking to it. Going to keep trying to hang in there and remember not to sneak snacks because that's what got me where I am needing surgery. I just had a party for 70 people at my house yesterday for Halloween and I have so many leftovers and so many sweet leftovers it is really hard to use my willpower but I'm doing it. Good luck with the rest of your pre op diet.
  19. Almost on the same day as you my surgeries 11/ 4 just 11 days away
  20. Briefs 199 I felt exactly the same way as you did. On the weeks and days leading up to my pre op diet I felt like I needed to eat everything that I wouldn't be able to eat again after surgery. The last 3 days before the pre op diet begin I started feeling sick of food. It was out of hand. So now I'm on the pre op diet day 3 and I've had headaches each after noon so had to take some Tylenol. But I'm allowed to have four protein shakes a day , 1 protein bar, a one to one and a half cup meal of protein and produce. So it's not so bad but it's definitely a calorie cut from what I was eating and I guess my body is adjusting that's why I have the headaches.

    Bluepoint Surgical Group

I posted before I was ready to send so anyway I was saying an EGD is customary for pretty much anyone having bypass surgery. They want to make sure you don't have any hernias. And they take a look at your esophagus and stomach to make sure you don't have any ulcer s and test for H pylori. I went through Blue Point which doctor moazzez. I used a woman named Susan Hayes for my psych eval. It was one of the two that Blue Point Recommended. The psych eval is very involved. Quite a bit of paperwork to write out your history and 300 question computer test. Took a while to do it. Then there's a second visit to follow up to go over your results. so it took me 2 weeks from the time I got the eval to my follow up result appointment. As far as who did my EGD, I used a local gastroenterologist because I live an hour and 20 minutes from Fair Oaks. But they have some gastro docs that they use regularly they could recommend one. Good luck to you as your journey begins. I'm almost at the end of mine my surgery is 11 /4. I should say I'm almost at the end of the first phase of my journey and then I have the rest of my journey forever after.

Using Bluepoint. Dr. Moazzez on 11/4. Sitting in cardiologist office right now to get my cardiac clearance. I need it because I'm 50. This is the last test thank goodness. An earlier poster mentioned getting tests done too early. If your using the faifax office call Pam she will tell you which tests to have pre approval and then post insurance approval.

I meant to say thanks so much for the advice ... Oops
  25. Hi Becca I can't believe you're only days away from your surgery. How are you doing? Are you getting nervous are you excited? Just touching base to stay in touch. Good luck on the 21st. I loved Dr moazzez when I met him.... You're in great hands. Let me know how the hospital is once you're finished your surgery and feel a little up to it. Curious how your experience while in the hospital goes. Talk to you later
