Guys! I am now 23 days post op, RNY, and back at work(desk). I'm starting to get slight pain on the upper right incision. I only feel it after I have been wearing PANTS/jeans. Maybe the compression from them is bothering my insides. I am on pureed foods and have been walking and lightly jogging about 2-3 miles a day. It's like a fluttering pain. Like a giant butterfly hates my insides. Anyone else??

@@marie do you have nausea or acid reducing meds? If so are you taking per the prescription? Likely the cause of your fluttering pain

Yes I am taking them as prescribed. I went throught my journal and noticed this started after I attempted 5-10 lb weights at the gym. And have narrowed the pain down to certain movements. Which is any movement involving abs. :( might go get an x-ray done.

@marie. Ok my surgeon said nothing above 10lbs for 6 weeks postOp so you may be right weights as the source of your pain

Mine said the same. I figured the ones I was using were okay. It has been 3 days since then. I am going to see if this gets better over the weekend. If not, Monday morning I'm headed to my doctor.

When I had surgery last year I tore a little muscle in my stomach after picking up something at work that was heavy. They did a CT scan to figure it out. Nothing can could do unfortunately but give it time to heal. But good to get it checked in case it's something torn inside.

I am having a hard time getting in calories! All I can get down a day is 2 bowls if broth with the unflavored Protein, then a few 100% fruit, no sugar added popsicles and maybe a Jello cup. Then I sip on a big Water jug that I mix half & half with apple juice all day. I am so full!!

No gas pains at all. No pain meds either. My surgery seems so different from most, I am kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. There must be a catch and I have just not gotten to it. For right now I am counting my blessings.

@@Beni me too. 10 days out with no problems. Getting all the Water, Protein, and Vitamins in. Walking some. No pain meds in 5 days. After hearing all the problems and issues, I too am waiting for the other shoe to drop but I'm praying it doesn't. Praying for you too. And praying for everyone else who had this surgery. I hope everyone ends up fine and healthy!

@@Sherrib4health - same here! I'm 5 days out today, and things have been great. I'm not having any issues with getting everything in. I'm still careful when I drink or eat "full liquids", but I'm not getting that incredibly full/stuffed feeling. I don't gulp by any means, but I don't have to take tiny sips either. I was worried that maybe something didn't take with the surgery!

Yesterday I did have some very slight left back shoulder pain and pain at the base of my neck on the left side, and my mind went crazy, thinking I have a leak. I checked my temp and BP, and it was fine. I just took some pain medication and tried to not focus on it. Feeling fine this morning. Other than that I've been great. Things have just been going so well, I'm waiting for (and dreading) the shoe to drop. Yikes! ????

I felt the same way. But now there weeks out I'm able to tell the difference of hungry and full. It just takes time and getting used to the new you and your bodies signals.

Is anyone still having issues with pain? I had my surgery on 10/22 and have been trying to ween myself on less pain meds because I'll run out soon. Last night I took 1&1/2 perc and when I woke up this morning I had a 7 level pain, and after showering I literally had to lay down and wait for the meds to kick in. During the day I can exist fine on 1&1/2, but it seems as night and in the am I need the 2 to manage the pain. I'm worried I'm still in too much pain, and also that when I do run out the dr will not give me more. I'd love to hear your thoughts, I know some said they weren't given pain meds at all, I honestly don't know how you exist. Also I get regular gallstones and still function, so I'm not being a whimp. ????

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
