Recommended Posts

Question...I was sleeved on September 15th and I just noticed that a couple of my internal stitches are making there way out of my body. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Sometimes internal stitches come through the scab on your body. If they stay internl they dissolve.

Two options go to your surgeon have whim or a nurse pull them.

Sterilize tweezers and pull the your self. Be careful tug gently to make sure the internal part is fully dissolved they should come away with relative ease if they don't stop until they do.

Watch to. Ake sure they don't get infected (little pockets of pus around the stitch where it exits the incision) if that happens see your doc immediately.

I was sleeved Sept. 11 and lately I've been feeling nauseous when I eat. It passes after a while but don't no why it's happening. Is anyone else going through this?

I was also sleeved on 9/11. I have yet to have a nausea episode, but two close calls I attributed to gas wanting to come up. I allowed the gas bubbles to pass and everything was okay. I am still taking the acid reflux medicine. If I don't, I wake up about 11PM with the onset of reflux so I take the med then (cause I forgot).

I am holding to the doctors diet. For the last week, I stuck a pound of turkey breast in the blender and a pound of canned mushrooms. I get two tablespoons of each for lunch or dinner. I bought a pound of chicken breast yesterday, but it doesn't taste as good. Otherwise, I have Greek yogurt every morning and two Protein Shakes.< /p>

Has anyone gotten the response that you took the easy way out yet? I'm not a violent person but I might just have to tongue lash the first person that says this. Vsg isn't for lightweights or lazy bones. This is no messing around serious work, all the time. (Sleeved 9/15. Almost down 20.)

I have gotten the you don't need to do that. There are better ways. Well, I've tried everything else! This is my last effort! This wasn't my go to for weight loss. This is my last hope.

That's been my response.

MB511, my family gauges their good to include mine. One Saturday hubby cooked Breakfast and didn't make a plate for my daughter. She said that's fine mommy will be done shortly and after 8 small bites; she was right. My limited eating bothers my family at times but mostly it is a going joke and who gets my plate is a part of it. Unlike your husband, it is usually thoughtful and loving.

My family is concerned when it is clear what I've eaten is not going down. That for me is what makes me second guess things too. I had no clue and want to go back to Jello and shakes. It seems to me I have been chewing forever but almost every time I have to go to bathroom because the meal is returning because it couldn't go down. I was sleeved 9/3 and that I am on solids I hate food.< /p>

I never hear anyone, doctor, nurse or nutritionist talk about peristaltic action.

Peristalsis is:

A sequence of muscle contractions that progressively squeeze one small section of the digestive tract and then the next, to push food along the tract, something like pushing toothpaste out of its tube.

This is the normal way our digestive systems work. When we have a gastric sleeve, we still have peristaltic action but because we have reduced our smaller stomach to the size of a "tube", we feel it more intensely. I am no doctor but I think it might be necessary to reteach our newly sensitized digestive systems to accept food, albeit a limited amount, and reteach our minds to be cognizant of our new limitations.

Well that explains it! I was sleeved 9/16 and have had a rough couple days with the nausea. What happens is when I throw something up, I can't even force myself to eat it again (lunch meats and chicken are now out for me, sadly). My surgeon had us go to regular textured foods at two weeks and maybe that was too early. I think I'm going back to liquids for a few days then try solids again.

Has anyone talked to their doctor about gauged foods. I went in on Tuesday and my doctor gave me information on finding my gauge foods. Foods that fill me up and keep me filled longer.

He also gave me some food for thought. He asked me what I'm giving up by losing weight. He also asked me what I am gaining by losing weight.

I have physically been doing well with the changes that happening. Psychologically however is a different story. I'm used to eating what I want, when I wanted and in any amount. Now I need to be very conscious about my food decisions. Even though my stomach is full my mind keeps telling me that I haven't had enough. I was sleeved on the 22nd and the first two weeks were tough with food. I felt like I wasn't feeding myself enough. Now that I am in my third week I am having an easier time but there is still a battle. I never realized what an addiction I had to food till I couldn't have it anymore.

Thanks for being so open about your struggle. It's truly a process. I find myself thinking, I can have one more bite. But my stomach is like hell no! So my mind is starting to catch up, and my fear is stretching back out my pouch. I also don't want to get sick. So when I really put it all in prospective it helps me. I want to find the foods that work best for me. I think they maybe seafood, but I will find out in time.

Stay encouraged

So question, I am on the board of a non-profit and our big event is this weekend, 12 hours long and I am in charge of main ticketing. No brainer I do it every year. Here is the challenge I don't have access to a fridge or microwave, I am onsite 12 hours, I am still in puree and mushy food stage. I don't like things like cold eggs that should be warm.

What do I take with me to eat? I am onsite can't leave the site because of my job, and it will be insane for most of the time. We will sell thousands of pours of beer (all the free beer I can drink, if I drank beer or if I could drink period ;-) )

Any suggestions on things to take my go to would be a Protein Bar but since it isn't allowed it is out. We have some restaurants around us again pureed and mushy not so hot at a restaurant and I can't leave my area and won't because the crowds are really really tight we have 20-30K in people over 5 city blocks.

Need stuff that tastes great and last at outdoor temps in Philly in Oct.

Just finished my puréed weeks. Try yoplait lite and fit Greek yogurt. Tastes surprisingly good and has lots of Protein. I also night take Protein Shakes. I like premier chocolate from costco. Best tasting!!! I have tried powders and they make me sick... Grainy and taste blah. Applesauce, SF Jello pudding, and individual servings of cottage cheese (sweetened with any flavor SF Jello powder) got me thru this stage when I was on the go.

I was sleeved on 9/23. It was done at a outpatient surgery center I went in at 7am and was home and in my bed by 4pm same day. The day I went in i was 307 and today i'm weighing in at 275. All my clothes are falling off and everyone is noticing my weight loss and i'm loving it. Day 1 at home post surgery i pretty much ate pain pills and did ice chips and slept. I felt like crap. The next day i felt a little better, was able to sip on fluids but again mostly slept. Every day got a little better for me. I was not coming close at all to my recommended Fluid and Protein. Went to Dr. for week 1 post op and got the go ahead to blend any Soup i wanted. Which was nice from broth and Popsicles. I got a good protein that is easy for me to get down and i was doing much better getting fluid and protein. Friday 10/10 i went to nutritionist that the surgeon works with and got my eating plan. I do breakfast, 1/2 shake snack, lunch, 1/2 shake snack then dinner. My surgeon has a great program with the nutritionist she gives recipes and meal plans shopping lists and lots of great resources. It really helps to have this added support. I am doing really well, I bought a treadmill to use and I am going to try to start doing a little yoga for now. I'm happy with my loss thus far and am VERY happy I did the sleeve. It truly amazes me just how little I eat and it feels like I just had a Thanksgiving day feast!

Sleeved on 9-18-14. I am still so very tired. I have a very bad taste in my mouth no matter how many times I brush my teeth. I know when burning fat you can taste ketones but this is vile. I am drinking 80 grams of protein/day ago 70 oz Water. I was told not to worry about trying to eat food now just get the Protein and water in. I have lost 35 lbs. Any suggestions for the bad taste in my mouth?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
