Were u always overweight or become as an adult?

I was born at exactly 7 lbs but by the time I was a toddler, I was a Weeble (remember, "weebles wobble but they don't fall down"?). I was a fat kid, a fat teen, and a fat bride at 21. I was fat at 40 when my husband died. 2 yrs later is when I decided to take it into my own hands and quit blaming my genes, my mom, my job, my lack of job, my family....I could go on all day with the blame.

Just curious as to who was a fat kid that turned into a fat adult or a twig kid who turned into a fat adult (either by pregnancy, hormones, life, marriage,....)

I was never a fat child or teen. I started gaining weight after I had my first child at age 28 (I'm 44 now). I haven't been under 200 pounds since he was born in 1998 and I have steadily gained over the last 16 years, despite trying everything to lose weight.

I have always been fat . . . born small but when I was a toddler I won "biggest tummy" at the 4th of July pageant. I have never been a normal weight since then. Right now I have about 15 lbs to go to hit a healthy BMI. I can't wait!

I started gaining weight when I was about 10. Parents divorced, new step parents on both ends whim I didn't get along with. Bad habits learned from both parents.

Just generally an unhappy childhood that I was never able to get over or change habits.

I joke that I came out of my mom at 9 lbs 1 oz and just kept going. I was the fat kid in class that everyone made comments about made fun of,Okies can be mean right. By the time I was in high school I became anorexic/ bulimic and went down quite a bit. Was really hard to stop that, but getting married, you kinda did not want that secret out with your husband. Always struggled with the weight. I wound up being diagnosed with hypothyroid to the extreme. Weight came on hard and fast and I lost control. I am looking forward to the surgery so that I can get on top of the weight loss again. : )

I was a "normal" kid and teen...maybe one of the bigger ones, but very muscular and fit. Hell, I ran cross country! I was a "big" girl in college and through my twenties, but still fit...canoed, backpacked, river guide, ski instructor, etc. The pounds started piling on in my 30's (25 pounds between 30 and 33). Then even more after I turned 40 to max out around 240. My mom was the same way....an 18" waist when she was married, but at 72 is still struggling with her weight and has been dieting for decades. That was a big part of my motivation to have this surgery.

I've been overweight since grade school. I can still remember going to Sears to buy Husky jeans. To save money, Mom made my shirts... so I don't know what size I wore. Years ago, I found an old picture of me at 5 or 6 yrs. of age. I was actually thin! But I can't ever remember not being fatter than the rest of the kids.

I've always been noticeably bigger than others. I started out at 9 lb and kept right on growing! ;-) I attached a photo of me as a baby! I was quite a chunk! The other baby in the pic is the same age as me. I thinned out in early grade school but was still larger than everyone else. It only got worse as I grew up. As a teenager my stepdad couldn't keep his mouth shut about how fat I was. He was so mean! He's still an ahole. I graduated high school at 200 lbs and then met my husband when I was 19 after I'd lost 30 lb and was looking nice at 170. I was still over weight at 170. I quickly gained that back and was 200 at my graduation from college. My husband (boyfriend at the time) was disgusted and threatened to leave me if I didn't lose he weight. That didn't go over well. Yet for some reason I married the man!! I proceeded to gain more and became pregnant at the age of 24 at 225 lbs. I had my oldest child and my top preg weight was 285. Lost down to 210 by the time he was 3 then gained 40 more lbs and got pregnant again at 250 lbs. maxed out at 305 when I delivered that little man! Got down to 270's and have creeped back up and my max is 315! Oh man I've talked a lot. I'm just happy to finally have a tool that will help me.

Born at 12lbs, I was a watermelon. Was always the big kid in school, but was active in just about every sport I could squeeze in to my schedule. Weight didn't really become a "problem" until after college and I stopped playing football. The weight started piling on, muscle mass started going away, and I become less and less active. I weighed in at 340 my senior year as a lineman, but was decently solid. Packed on about 100 pounds after that by not maintaining my workout schedule after school, but maintained my eating schedule quite well.

I was very athletic as a kid and teen, with a small waist, long shapely legs and lean muscle mass. Never skinny but very toned and tight. I remember being 165 lbs in 12th grade and when I had my first child, I gained 65 lbs but lost down to 185. Thinking I was fat at 21. I never felt small after that in a size 16. WOW! It wasn't until I had my second child at 37 that I began to pick up weight. Things just kinda changed with age and metabolism. I think it was also moving from a warm weather state to a cold weather state as well that did it for me. I can't say having two kids at a later age did it because I only gained 20-25 lbs with each. It was a life and territory change that did it for me.

I was normal until 7 years old, then started weight watchers for the first time by 9... I've been "obese" most of the 20 years since, with a few reprieves into the lower end of "overweight" due to short lived successful dieting. This is the closest I've ever been to being in the normal range for BMI in 20 years!

I was never plus size, at 9 mo pregnant I weighed 192 pounds!! I never lost the pregnancy weight, got bigger and bigger!! My highest weight ever 245

Later in grade school I started to pack on the pounds. And I just kept growing, my first wife was a farm girl so it was meat and potatoes every night, along with some fresh baked cake or bars. i gained 60 lbs in 9 years. Then divorced and gained some more, changed jobs more weight, had knees replaced and topped the scales at 368 now its time for the sleeve.

I was very skinny through college. Started picking up weight due to stress at work... pretty awful. The only fun part of the day was going out to lunch. That + sitting at work, sitting in night class and sitting in the car going and coming back from school and the weight steadily piled on. I had gestational diabetes that was very well controlled; I lost 25lbs. with each pregnancy (I was ready to eat the table!). Gained weight back again and have struggled to keep my weight in check. I'm retired now, so I don't have work stress anymore, but find it hard to be motivated and able to move around a lot. Since finding out about the Protein shakes, I got my hopes up that I could do this without having a large portion of my stomach removed. Reality check--- I know the statistics on being able to lose t all the weight and KEEP IT OFF for good are very low. So I'm going to go through with this and hopefully can get rid of diabetes, sleep apnea and non-alcoholic fatty liver.

I have always been "the chunky girl." As a child I wasn't obese, but I was plump. My uncle nick named me "2 tons of fun" and I was called that for years, and internally, it shamed me. I gained progressively until high school, and then I started playing sports so I plateaued at around 215. In college I was always the "fat friend" and my weight settled around the 240's. On my wedding day 5 years ago I weight 260... In 2012, after my son's 2nd birthday party I saw the pictures of myself and was horrified. I went to the scale to find that I had made it all the way to 312 lbs. I knew that I had to do something, and from that point on I was determined to lose this weight! Today I am 202 (almost 4 months post op and 96lbs down)and I am anxiously awaiting ONEDERLAND because I honestly don't remember a time in my life since I was conscience of my weight that I weight under 200 lbs! Praying these next 3 lbs melt away so that I can feel what it's like to not weigh 200 plus pounds :)

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
