Hi my michiganders! So, I went shopping today. The white shirt is a freaking size LARGE!! I feel amazing and I'm the happiest I've ever been. I've never looked in the mirror and liked what I saw, until today. Best day. ♡

Hi, Kimba. My highest weight was 265#. My weight was 244# right before starting the two-week liquid diet prior to surgery. I have pretty much followed the program to a "t". I currently am still on soft foods and working out for about 45 minutes a day. Its amazing how taking off the little bit of weight that I have taken off has made me feel so much better about myself and more optimistic about my future. So, does it get harder to stay on track as you get further along?

Thank you! And, Hey! Anything smaller than what you were is amazing! I was an xxl ( I probably shouldn't have been hah) at old navy, but only in cotton stretchy type shirts, and a 2 or 3x at jcpenney.

Also, to answer your question about it getting harder to stay on track with diet as time goes... for me, no. The fact I'm melting away is the biggest motivator to keep me on point. I may have a bite here and there of "cheat" foods, but sometimes you HAVE to give in. But yeah. For me the fact I WANT and neeeeed to lose this weight keeps me motivated to eat right. Plus, I find I don't crave the bad foods anymore. I crave the good stuff. I eat to live now. No more living to eat. Hah.

So awesome to hear sarahjane. Way to go and congrats. Its amazing when u can wear all the good stuff. I am now into an xl and cant wait! Keep up the good work!

And for lorilynn, i totally agree with sarahjane about the staying motivated. It hasnt gotten hard for me either. Just knowing what i was and am becoming is enough for me. I too will have a little cheat every now and then because i wont deprive myself. I was real careful the first 5 months. Once my 6th arrived i made myself a deal to have a little something if i wanted but the key is just a little. Need that will power. I keep my before pic on my phone, taped in my car and by the fridge just so i remember what I was. I love the new me and thats all the motivation i need. If u truly change ur lifestyle amd ur mindset, it is a part of your life and easy to do. Good luck and know we are all always here if u need a jump or push. Keep up tye good work and hope to hear ur progress.

If you dont have any group you're planning on going to, come to ours. I was sleeved by Dr Foote in GH and it was the best choice. They have great support staff. And for a bit of an update. Today was my weigh in day. I am down to 227 and thats a loss of 129lbs in about 8 1/2 montys. Weight has been slowing a bit so time to change up some stuff. I also started back on birth control since my divorce was final last month. Not that im planning anything but u never know..lol. Looking good these days (wink wink). I have also slipped a little. Had a massive baking day lasy weekend and then all the kids came over. I cheated!! Still lost 3lbs but couldve been more. Just been feelin a little down the last couple of weeks and missed support group so that didnt help. Only 47lbs til my personal goal weight and can look at having some skin removal. Excited about that. Looking like im gonna have to pay for some of it. Getting alot of excess skin and wont tighten up at my age. But just wanted to check in. Hows everybody else been doing?! We need to all get together at some point. Maybe find a halfway spot and meet for lunch one day. Talk to me ladies. Wanna hear from u all! Enjoy your weekends and stay healthy

Kimba6999, i had my surgery done with Dr.Gluck. I'm supposed to find out Tuesday about starting my free one year membership at the mercy heart center. I am 11 days post op. I little about me: I am married with 6 kids (including 2 sets of twins). I gained most of my weight after getting injured during operation iraqi freedom. Couldn't workout without extreme pain or fear of going back into a wheel chair. My starting weight was 240, 229 surgery day, and 219 now. My initial goal is 150. My dream goal, 135. I have alot going on in my life and in a few months I'll find out if I passed the bar exam to become an attorney (graduated law school in May). I would love to workout together sometime, even walking, once I'm clear to do so. Had some hydration and severe pain issues early on. I'm sure I'll be cleared Tuesday at my visit. Thanks for responding back. Oh by the way, I'm Zaneta. You can find my Facebook under Zaneta Adams. Thanks

Hey all you fellow Michiganders, thought I'd drop in an say hi! I'm from the south eastern border, about half way between Detroit and Toledo, but closer to the D. I like to tell people I'm from there ;)

I was sleeved December 2012, so it's been 21 months. I am struggling to get the last few pounds off. They may never come off, but I don't worry too much about it. I'm learning that it's a number. I look and feel normal, and that was all I ever wanted. My main goal is to not slide back into old habits - more challenging than I thought it would be a year ago. I think that's why so many people regain year 2-3, which is right where I am.

Looks like you all are doing great! Congrats!

Well welcome to our group. I guage myself on how i feel as well. At this point i still look at the weight but i have gone from a 4x to a LG in just 81/2 months so i cant complain. I took out my old clotyes a couple days ago and was just astounded at what i wore!! I could almost fit 2 of me in those clothes. My daught and i fit in them...lol. It can be a huge struggle to maintain and thats why u have all of us good peeps. We will keep u honest and on the right path. U worked so hard to get where u r at. Just remember that. Hope to hear more from u in future postings!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
