Whale watching! A magic moment in my memory, of being at the lighthouse on Point Loma Ca., watching the California gray whales migrating to Baja California, mx.

I was 12 years old. It still burn brightly in my memory, they were so close!

I grew up in Newport. Cliff walk is awesome (the only place we could skip school in the 70's and not get caught!). I live in South Tiverton RI, near Adamsville. There is great kayaking in the Westport (MA) River, both the east branch and the West branch. You can kayak all the way to Horseneck beach or end up at the head of Westport, where you can have ice cream or coffee. There is a kayak rental place right there if you don't have a kayak of your own. The Bristol RI bike path is great, it goes all the way to East Providence RI. So many beautiful places in our state! Over 400 miles of coastline, or so they say. :-)

How much time are you looking to take off? What kind of budget?

As you can tell from my name, I am from the Great Northwest. If I had two weeks, I would fly into Portland

and drive along the Columbia river Eastbound coming across Multnomah Falls (see image)

and the many other beautiful waterfalls in the area before heading up to Mt Hood:

I would then drive to the coast

and catch dungeness crab

and eat them right on the beach.

I would then drive up the coast to Seattle and catch a cruise to Alaska, which I did last fall. The Tracy Arm Fjords were something to remember.

Upon my return, I would enjoy all of the eclectic life of Seattle

Before heading back home.

I would make a bucket list of the top place I want to go and see. With all the money you save from your WLS you can afford to go on trips and feed your body, soul and spirit with the beauty all around you. I would love to start in Hawaii go through all the Island then head over to Alaska and then make my way through all the National parks. California and the East Coast are my favorites too, yet then again the Southern states would be a wonder to explore as well. There is so much to see and planning your trip is half the fun, enjoy the trip with love ones is the other half.

When I was in the hospital for my sleeve, my boyfriend and I (we're in our 60's) made a list of every state each one of us has been in, and then made a new list of the states we had not seen. So, from that smaller list, we will choose a place to go after I recover from the sleeve and an upcoming spinal fusion.

One thing we will do is take the scenic route to avoid major highways and chain restaurants. So, most likely for us it will be Rhode Island, Delaware, Virginia, the Carolinas, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Hawaii, or Alaska. I really would love to fly to Philadelphia, then rent a car or camper to travel back to Illinois by way of the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road to Rowan County North Carolina, then over the Daniel Boone Trail, Cumberland Pass, and Wilderness Road through Kentucky and back home through Indiana to Chicago.

A couple of years ago, I took up the mantle as family genealogist. My McCullough ancestors came over in 1734, and were country neighbors to the Boones and Morgans in Rowan County, North Carolina. Subsequent generations fought in the Revolution there, then came with Daniel Boone to open up Kentucky to settlement. Our family history of pushing the frontier makes me appreciate their effort and fortitude. I would be honored to follow their path, but not on horseback. A car will have to do.

I am counting on reaching my goal before then so that I can walk better and be able to tolerate getting around. It would be nice to get out of the house for something besides a visit to the doctor's office. This cabin fever is making me crazy.

I've been lucky enough to have traveled across the US, but I have to say my (new) home state is one of my favorites. Louisiana has a mixture of all the other states stired up into one. Our food is second to none, and anything and everything is celebrated with food and drink. Hunting and fishing are excellent. New Orleans has so much culture and history, you may never want to leave. Michigan is also quite beautiful. Spend a day or two in Frankenmuth then travel north to the UP. Plenty of camping, trails, & fishing to be done.

I would love to travel all over the US. Every state has it's beauty and I'd like to see it all. :-)

High on my list would be Alaska and the Florida keys - two opposite extremes! :-)

I have to say, though, that Southern New Englanders have access to a lot beautiful places within several hours in any direction. Mountains of NH and VT for hiking and skiing; Maine wilderness and lighthouses; Boston shopping and restaurants; Cape Cod beaches and small quaint towns; 400 miles of RI coastline; Newport mansions, beaches, and shopping; island getaways on Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Block Island; CT coastal attractions and beautiful lower Berkshires; NY city shopping and restaurants. And the best tasting and freshest seafood anywhere!

I work on Aquidneck Island and today a quahogger will be delivering fresh clams to me that he's probably digging right at this very moment. Cut out the middleman for an indecently cheap price - I'll be steaming those sweet-tasting clams for dinner tonite! :-)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
