Thank you everyone for all your encouragement. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! :peace: I am feeling alot better now and those cravings seem to be gone! Weigh-in at the hospital last night and my weight is still the same. 252lbs! :paranoid I was losing consistently before my fill and now that I've had a fill...NOTHING! :) I am telling myself that is just Water weight because it's that time of the month...at least I hope so!

Aprilmarie, I just want to give you a big hug! You are such a sweet person and you deserve this! Things WILL get better and you WILL start losing. Stay Positive!

Sophie,

Thanks so much for the kind words. I am glad to know that there are others out there that understand the work thing for me...you and TM1019 both have been in my shoes...it is helpful with others can relate!!! Isn't it amazing how many of us that work in the human services field have weight issues! lol

I hope to talk to my doc about your suggestion though I really do hate to go the medication route. I will wait it out a bit longer and if I am still struggling in the rut I will call.

Afrykanvyolet - Thanks so much lady, your words of encouragement were truly helpful! Yoga sound great! I have tried doing some band work but when it comes to placing the band behind my shoulders to to arm work it won't stay because I am such a pear! It just rolls up my shoulders to my neck. I ended up getting so frustrated that I quit it. But yoga, on the other hand, may do the trick...Thanks!

And about some fund time for me...actually one of my girlfriends is having her bachelorette party this weekend. I am really looking forward to it as I can't even remember the last time I went out bar hopping. We have a party van reserved so someone will drive us all night and we are staying in a hotel to avoid driving. I would like to have a drink or two any suggestions on that part anyone??? I know beer is out as it is carbonated but I was thinking something mild like vodca and cranberry juice. Let me know if anyone has addressed this.

Thanks so much all of you with your "lift me ups", Sugarbear, TM1019, Afrykanvyolet, and Sophie....your a true blessing!

HI,

Just curious as to how much weight you fellow March '07 bandsters have lost. I was banded on March 19th. Originally lost 22 lbs but I've gained back 5 lbs. Can't wait for my first fill which isn't until another 2 weeks.

Feel like I have no restriction at all! I can eat anything at all with no problems. Need a fill and fast!

Sherri

We were banded the same day. I've lost 27 pounds. The first 2 weeks I lost 15 but it slowed down after that. I really work hard at paying attention to what goes into my mouth. I have my first fill on Friday and am really glad because I also feel like I could eat everything. I quit eating because I'm a self pay sure don't want to blow those big bucks on a few minutes of so called pleasure.

Where is Pam and momlambert??

I'm here! Just been busy lately and not much to report. I did have my first "stuck pill" feeling last night when I was at a dinner party with friends and took two quick bites of soft, warm breadsticks followed by a bite of lasagna. I have trouble remembering to chew and chew (and probably to avoid white bread and pasta). I wasn't sure what to do so I ate some salad (crunchy water) and drank some Water and the feeling subsided. I was more careful the rest of the meal and did fine.

I was wondering: when you PB, how long is it after you ate that it happens? Like can you tell right away you better go to the bathroom or do you have to be "on alert" for a few hours or even all evening?

My first fill appt. is Monday. I hope I get a fill--I can eat almost anything (before last night's episode I would have said I can eat anything). So I'm anxious for that. Sounds like everyone is doing well!

Good luck on your surgery today, Kyethra. Hope all goes well!

I've PBed twice so far, so I know the band it there! The urge is immediate as is the relief afterward. It lasted less than 5 minutes each time.

I can't say that I wanted to eat again after all the slime and stuff came up. (Sorry, gross.) And I wouldn't want to be in anyone's company either while in process. I've seen someone describe it as like a cat with a hairball. That seems pretty accurate for me.

Like you I'm dying for a fill!

Cat hairball is exactly how I would describe it. I feel the food get stuck...there is a tightness in the chest and almost a lower esophogus gagging if that makes sense. I've had time each time to get to a bathroom and then just sit there and wait for it to happen. :-( Usually 5-10 minutes and it's over. I'm like OHjuli though, I don't want to eat anymore and might never return to the food that made me do it even if it wasn't the food but the spped and size of the bite.

Had my 1st fill Monday 4/23 and I'm sooooo hungry!

I'm on full liquids today and mushies until fri. Of course i'm hungry, liquids go right through! I've been doing Water and tea and my Protein Drinks. I don't want anything high in calories, I don't want to gain any weight back.

Think I'll go get a Jello

I feel the same way you do. I had my 1st fill today. I also had only lost 1.4 lbs since my surgery. I also had Dr. Nigro. I was banded on 3-20-2007. I'm hoping the Clear Liquids for 24 hours will get me going. I want to feel better and have more energy. Try not to get to depressed. I know its hard, but hang in there we are going to make it.

Did you ever go to a driver's license/photo ID center, dreading it, knowing that they always take a bad picture EVERY time? Today was no different after I had left my ortho appointment--which, by the way, is going to be the last one--I am now officially on an "as needed" patient status there. I AM HEALED! LOL. You can say I am A-OK for dancing. Heh.

Anyway, my state photo ID expires this coming Monday, and I had to take my "camera card" down to the photo center at the state building to get my picture taken for the new one, which will now be good for another four years

They actually got a shot the first time around down at PennDOT that I actually LIKED. No more two chins and I have CHEEKBONES sneaking in! Hee! Compared to the pic from the ID taken back in 2003, put them both side by side and you'd think it was two different people with the chipmunk cheeks and the chins in the 2003 one. LOL.

I'm keeping the old one in a scrapbook with a couple of "fatty" pics to show peeps down the road and just to remind myself of "way back when" and not to backslide.

Tomorrow is the weekly weigh in. This should be interesting.

How was that first fill? Did it hurt? Did it take long? Were you standing or lying down?

You know you'll start dropping weight now! You'll be feeling like a million bucks in a minute.

The fill was really easy. I did not hurt and took only about 5 to 10 minutes. I was laying down and the cleansed the area and then numbed the area. I pressure from the nurse pushing on my stomach, but no pain. I had a couple sips of Water to see if it went down, no problelm. It was really easy. Hope this start everything going away.

I can't wait to hear what kind of restriction we Marchies will have after our first fills.

I would love to know how long to wait before fills.

Hey,

My first fill is tomorrow I will let you know

Hey,

My first fill is tomorrow I will let you know

I had my first fill 4/5. Went smooth. I have to wait at least 6 weeks before another one. That is the way my doc does it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
