Marchies In April

demsvmejm, I had that sensation in my port area too. I stopped noticing it after a couple of days. My Dr had a hard time finding the port, so I just thought it was from all the adjusting of the needle. That area is already tender from the incision anyway. I'm happy with my fill. It's nice to have that full feeling back again.

synicalchick, I swear I could live on just cheese too. I really have to watch that I don't OD on the cheese. At least I like cottage cheese....laughing cow light is good too. Congratulations on your loss!

lala3000, Doesn't it feel good to move! Way to go on the jogging! You'll have to get on the list for the exercise challenge and hopefully motivate me to try jogging again.

Bandstar, Rock on Man! :) You are doing the right thing! The fill will help you out of bandster hell. Be patient with yourself.

I was worried about the scale not moving, but took my measurements and had lost 9 inches in the past 2 weeks! That's 20 total inches gone!

Joined a gym last week and walked 2 miles on saturday and 2 miles today. I totally shocked myself and my husband with this since it's been years since I've been able to walk more than 10 minutes without have back pain. I was totally stoked by this and it was so exciting I went out and bought new walking shoes and a new headphone set to wear while I watch tv on the treadmill at the gym. :-) I have my life time first Water aerobics class tomorrow. I'm really nervous...hehe. I've heard it's alot harder than people think.

I'm still waiting on a fill and currently feel like I wouldn't even know I had the surgery if I didn't have the scars. Always hungry but I know if I had more Protein this wouldn't be such a problem. I'm surviving...I had to stop getting on the scales because they've started climbing again. I've gained back 3 of the 20lbs I lost after surgery. Come on fill date!!!

Something interesting I've had to start learning is how to order food. Use to I knew exactly what and how much I wanted when I pulled into a drive through. Now I have to really think about it and alot of times it's trial and error. Today I stopped at Sonic on my way to a meeting and I planned on ordering the popcorn chicken bites. For some reason I ended up ording mozzarella sticks too. :-( Ended up eating 1/2 the chicken bites and 1/2 of ONE cheese stick. Threw the rest away. Gonna be expensive learning what I can and can't...do and don't...want.

Anyways, just my thoughts on the day. :-) I love reading this forum and love all you guys. March on Marchies!!

Hiya Marchies

I am a bit of a lurker. I don't post much but I read everything. I am so glad all of you are here. I don't know how I could do this without being able to read these posts. They make me less crazy... not sane, but for sure less crazy.

i hear a lot about Water aerobics. I would have tried it ages ago but it seems so, well, wet. Now I'm a big fan of water when it comes to things like my beautiful overflow bath at home (I swear I'm in love with my tub). walks on the edge of waves can also be fun. All that stuff. Its the whole submersing myself in cold water when I can't even swim properly thing I don't really seem to care for. I want to learn to swim properly someday. I think. But not now. Now I have this recurrent nightmare that in order to get my masters I have to take an 8am swimming class. Naturally I refuse to get in the water and so I fail.

Hi all -- I'm with Medge! I was banded 3-28-07, and lost about 15 lbs right off the bat. However, for the past week I've been within the same one or two pounds, up and down. I also feel like I haven't even had surgery most of the time, and am so excited for my first fill May 11.

We can hang in there!! : ) The first fill must help quite a bit.

Hi Everyone,

We all sound like were kinda all in the same boat.

My fill is scheduled for May 3, I am 4 weeks out and down 24.

I have found to curb hunger is to eat something that is Protein.

I have a huge sweet tooth, but just a piece of cheese or some egg salad takes the edge off.

I have been buying the double filet of fish sandwiches from McDonald's. I only eat the fish, what do you guys think? I know its not ideal, but my job has me going into fast food restaurants everyday. I work for an alternative school. Everyday I go to the fast food restaurants and pick up lunch for the students. The smell of those darn fries just kill me.

Hey I am so happy, I have sleep apnea, which can cause night terrors. My night terrors have diminished greatly. I am beginning to think I believe the doc's when they say losing 10% of your weight makes a difference.

Have a great week everyone, I am going crazy planning my sons Bar Mitzvah.

I would love to try Water aerobics but I'm too embarrassed to wear a bathing suit. Any suggestions?

Find a big old thread bare T shirt to wear over your suit. And put on that, "don't even think about giving me a hard time" face as you stride toward the pool.

Really the people who are concerned with other people's size or shape don't have opnions I value anyway. :biggrin1:

Congratulations to your son on his Bar Mitzvah!

I was going to knock the fish from McD's but really as far as their sandwiches go, it's not that bad. (As far as low fat protein goes, it's not that good.) But you could do worse.

Maybe talk to the decision makers at your school about how horrible fast food for lunch is for your students and redirect them to better alternatives for next year. (I'm a school food service manager, but I won't jump on a soap box.)

I'm with you on wanting a fill, NOW.

I was nervous about the swimsuit thing too but I checked out the class on Saturday...hehe..looking through the window and it was all older larger ladies. I'll probably still wear a shirt though. The pool at this club is only 4.7 feet deep at it's "deep" end, and they keep the Water at 82 degrees constantly.

All the Marchies ROCK. Thanks so much. I consider myself a perfectionist and when things don't go my way I tend to freak out. You've made me see that this period of time (in the long haul of it) is just a tiny drop in the bucket. So i've gained a little...not the end of the world. When I get the fill it will come off. Waiting to hear about the fill shouldn't be my sole purpose to get up in the morning.

Thanks to the Marchies for being there.

tammyj you hold a special place in my heart.

Hi SG dodge, where have you been girl??I had alittle break too, my parents are visiting.

Afrykanvylot- now you just can't worry about the bathing suit. Get it on and get into the Water and start moving , all is good. Just remember you are not out in the open you are in the water. I know what Kyethra is saying about getting wet. On holidays, I spend all the time swimming but we have a pool in my complex and there is something not appealing about cold and wet. Couple that with leaving the building and walking home in the snow...ugh.

Oh before I forget again, Tammyj-LOVE the hair short!! You have lost alot of weight, are you feeling it?

Bandstar- how are you doing? i am mad at your floroscope people-didn't they know that they would use the tables for people having WLS...sheesh,here's another hug for you.

Janine- love planning parties!! my husband is Jewish and just told my son if he would like a Bar Mitsvah that he would do it with him...i thought that was kinda cool.

Sophie- i have to tell you that your story about passing out was quite scary. I am glad to see that you are feeling so great. i am worried about flying to france and doing mine alone, but i am sure that i will be fine. Do you know right away if you are in trouble??

Medge- i am waiting, waiting for a fill. I have to wait 9 weeks from the start. Seems terribly long to me.everytime I think that it's like i don't have the band..bang!!!!!!!!I get a golfball incident. had one yesterday that lasted for about an hour. damn chiken soup..but i tried those papaya enzymes ,they are the bomb....it's like draino. LOVE them!!!

can't really comment on the fastfoods, we had to totally eliminate them because my older son has celiac and can't eat anything there so we just don't. We have the largest McDonalds's in the world here...it has 2 floors!!!!!!!! Russians LOVE LOVE LOVE fast food.< /p>

Well, that's it. I'll be back later.

Where is Pam and momlambert??

Sue-

What are papaya enzymes and where does one find them.

Also, I have to wait 8 weeks from my banding to my first fill. I know what you mean about not feeling banding them BAM, hello there's constriction. Today it was a cold ground beef patty for Breakfast. Odd choice and a bad decision, won't happen again.

Julie- I think at any healthfood store, and probably Traderjoe's and Wholefoods. Here I got them at the drugstore. They are little wafers, sweet tasting, kinda tart. Chew about three of them up and i swear twice they have cleared up the golfball and pain pretty quickly. By the way , I also have heard pineapple juice is awesome for this same thing.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
