Marchies In April

Recommended Posts

Here is my progress from the last month. I can't really see that much of a difference.

The most difference is in my face but my DH would have a freaking heart attack if I posted my face on the internet - he is just sure that as soon as I have my face online someone is going to steal the image and use it in some porn image. I quess I should feel flattered....:faint:

:wow2: :wow2: :wow2: What an incredible difference!!! You look GREAT!!!:clap2:

Hi everybody. Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weekend.( Its beautiful in Southern Ontario any way?) 8 more days till I get my first fill and at this rate I will have gained 8 more lbs AHHHHHHHHHH .:help: :violin: :violin: Help!!!!! I am having last meal syndrome again, since I have no restricting. I am pretty good all day, then in the evening I can not stop munching. It doesn't help that DH has been out of town since Thursday. We don't spend much time apart and I really am lost with out him. Ya ...even after being married 29 years next month.

I really find this board helps....I have never spent so much time at the computer at home. Thinking of getting a second one just so DH and I don't have to Wrestle for the thing when we get home from work.

I really need some encouraging words to get me though the next 8 Days.

Purple monkey: 50 lbs Way to go :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

That is so funny, my husband is out of town this weekend as well and I feel the urge to just eat and eat and eat. Boredom and lonliness will do that to you. :bored

purple, I think it all depends on the person. I know some people on here seem to do well without a fill for a long time at least. I don't see one in my immediate future. Once I stop losing weight then I'll schedule one, but since we have the weight falling off it would be silly to get one before we need one I think.

I'm glad to see so many people discovering the joys of fish. I really like fish. I don't eat it quite as often as I would like because I've been sort of a lazy cook I guess. I've always disliked chicken, I just don't eat it at all. So for years people always sort of look at me like I'm crazy when I say that I think fish is better. Then I met the dietician who mentioned that chicken has a tough texture, tougher than anything else, and I turned to my husband and I said "so there". For me texture is a big sensory issue especially with certain meats.

One thing I find exciting about the weight loss is looking at the difference in my BMI. I'm not that far from 35 anymore, and that will be nice to get to for me because than after 35 I can say I'm not morbidly obese anymore. I remember when I first learned I was MO a couple of years ago. I was shocked. I knew I was obese, but I didn't know I was that bad relatively.

Rosi, I miss my husband a lot when he goes out of town too. More than I ever think I am going to. I'm still a newlywed though. Maybe after a few years I'll get more sick of him ;)

Guess what Kyethra...you ain't morbidly obese nomore hun! (I know slang...lol!) Morbidly obese is 40 and above. You are well on your way to just being "overweight" once you get below 30! We all are and I can't wait to get there!

I see a difference in you pictures. Funny about your DH. If I were more proficient with photoshop I'd stick a porn star face on your picture just for giggles.;)

*snort* I think he is being a little silly about it but...eh. He is a great guy and I love him so I will go along with his little eccentricity.

Speaking of our May thread. Name suggestions: Marchies in May, March into May, or May Marching Band! Anyone interested in an exercise challenge or Water challenge? I got the idea from the February thread. What do you guys think about clothes swapping? Any ideas are welcome.

I'll take any of your suggested names...

I'd be interested in a challenge too. Exercise and/or water would be great!

I'll keep looking for postings.

Rosi, I know what you mean about not spending much time apart even after 29 years. I'm not trying to get sympathy but my husband passed away 2 weeks short of 30 years and I have been lost since, for 5 years. The strange thing is he was a runner, ate healthy and of the normal weight. Myself on the other hand didn't exercise, ate junk and overweight. So I should have been the one with the killer stroke , not him. Anyway, now I'm trying to improve my health with eating correctly. I'm 5 weeks out, lost 25 # and going for my first fill on Friday. I'm sort of scared but figure it can't be any worse than the actual surgery.

I do know someone on this board that was banded in January and has not had a fill yet. She does feel restriction from the band itself. She has lost 50lbs with 40 more to go. It will be interesting to see is she is able to reach her goal without ever having a fill!

Tammy, I think Marchies in May is cool. Just keep it going each month but change for the month. It is so easy to just type in Marchies in the search box and up pops the thread.

LL, good for you on your weight loss. I also have lost about the same. I was married for 25 years and lost my husband. He died from an Arterio Venus Malformation (like the Senator from SD). That was back in 1989. My first husband weighed 185 and was 6'1" and never had a weight problem. I eventually remarried and have been happily married after making a few adjustments to marrying someone totally the opposite of my first DH (LOL).

I had the misfortune of having a new person training when I had my first fill and he did not have a very soft touch. Yes, I had a novacaine shot but it still hurt quite a bit. I hope when I get my second fill that his technique has improved or I get someone else. I do believe tho that the majority of the fills have little or no discomfort.

Good Wishes to you!

I cannot believe it has been a MONTH already since I was banded! Wow..where did the time go?

Today was absolutely gorgeous; I spent the majority of it outside walking and doing other things. To think I used to pass days up like this because my knees hurt or I was too embarrassed to be around people. Wow, what a difference a little band makes, eh? I even put SHORTS on, and I never put them on before unless I was just staying around the house!

I have to see my orthopedist Wednesday for my eight-week cortisone shot for my knee; the last time I was there, I was in pain and still using one of my crutches--gee, do you think he will know me this time when I practically sprint in there pain free? LOL! I have a feeling this is going to be my best ortho appointment yet.:clap2:

All right, time for my workout. Just a mild one, since I did a two-mile walk today.

Wow, Lori! You are such an inspiration--keep up the good work and let us know what your ortho says. Shorts? Man, I just can't imagine being able to do that. Good for you!

Good for you Lori!!! ;) It is amazing what an extra 40 to 50 lbs can do to our bodies! I was having alot of joint pain and it is practically gone now after only a 30lb loss! You are doing GREAT! Keep it going! :clap2:

What amazes me is how fast the different joint pain goes away. Before my surgery my lower right back and right knee hurt so bad all the time that I waddled like a very pregnant woman. I realize that I was on pain meds in the hospital but neither pain was there whenever I got back home and hasn't had any since. A few pounds will make a tremendous difference. I can't wait until I get to goal to see what I can really do. I'm anxious for a Colorado trip because my sister's family does a lot of mountain walking and this time I'll be able to do it and even keep up.

Yeah I am hoping weight loss will help with pain. I read before that it does that most for lower body joint pain and back pain. That made sense to me. I was a little disapointed though because my shoulders are bad (my shoulder blades actually). But I found that working with weights does help with that for me. Its just a matter of working through the initial workout pain and reminding myself that the results will be worth it. That reminds me, I need to ask the doc if after my surgery (for the gall bladder) if once I start eating normally I can get back on my NSAID. I haven't had it since a week before the band went it. I have darvocet, but I don't need something that strong most of the time so I try not to take it. But I need something so I want to get back on my NSAID. Thats actually really exciting! I bet I can get back on it soon.

I always feel so guilty whenever I hear of knee injuries-- almost one year ago I was in a bad car accident and my brother was with me and he broke his knee and the tendon was disconnected. He can walk again now but its not the same as before. I'm always trying to find out what different things people do for their knees and see if any of it might help him. So if you have good tips, let me know.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
