Marchies In April

Recommended Posts

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing.

I e-mail my nurse to see if I can get a fill on May 8 or 9. I am still only eating about 1 cup a food per sitting, but I am hungery withing a hour or two. I hope they can get me in. I am also off on those days so that would be a bonus. The scale didn't move, still 199 and holding, so that is good news. I have just uped my walking to about 2 miles 4 times per week. When we get the basement done (hopefully soon) then I will add weights and start doing my Sweating videos (still love Richard).

Josiebies, You have lost nearly 40 lbs in less than three weeks. I was loking at your weight and current weight. What size band and have you had any fill. I know some docs put some in at surgery. Sounds like you are really tight or maybe a lot of swelling. I would say call the doc, but I see you have already been to see him. You shouldn't have trouble getting sood down. Of course you are probably on mushies, right? I had to do liquids for two weeks and then mushies a couple of weeks.Week 5 before I could go to solids. I think I would go back, maybe they will take a look with the flouroscope. Most of us ar too loose at that point and wanting a fill.

Beautiful!!!! I love the arched brows and earrings. Fantastic for you!

You may have noticed that I look a little different in my avatar pic. Along with losing weight I will be going through a hair transformation at the same time. I have been wanting to go ALL NATURAL for years, but never had the guts to do it. I wanted to totally transform myself so I stopped relaxing my hair about the same time I decided to get banded. I couldn't think of a better time to start! After growing a couple inches of new growth I finally chopped off all my relaxer. I went and got my eyebrows arched, put on some make-up and some cute earrings to ROCK MY TWA (teeny weeny afro)! I can't keep my fingers out of my hair...I love the way it feels! This is the hair that God gave me and it is beautiful! I can't wait til it grows long enough to put a flower in it or to wear some twists. I have to be sure to get in at least 60g of Protein a day so I won't lose what little hair I do have. Watch out as my HAIR GETS BIGGER and my BODY GETS SMALLER! :biggrin1:

HI Folks,

I started coughing on Sunday eve, Monday was rough and by Tuesday I was hacking all day long. At sometime Tuesday night I must have pulled a muscle in my stomach. I was freaking out!!! Went to my local doctor and he checked my incisions carefully cause he thought I might have created a hernia. He said he did not think I had a problem. He said it was not the lapband for sure. What a relief!!! NOW IF I CAN QUIT COUGHING I WONT FEEL THE PAIN. :D

I am dissappointed in my weight loss. I have only lost 18 pounds and most of that was in the 2nd week after surgery. I am back on regular foods but tried to eat ribs yesterday and they got stuck. Today I went with soft foods. I am not scheduled for a fill until May 26.

Well, the main point of my post is to tell everyone...."DO NOT COUGH HARD":clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Hi Tranam1955,

I got a chest cold days after I had my surgery. My coughing made me tear a few stiches that were holding down my port to the stomach muscle. It did end up healing fine and everything seems to be better now (we will see when I get my first fill).

My advice is to cough laying down or bent over something (in my case I bent over the arm of the chair) that seemed to ease the stress on the stomach muscles and made it much less painful!

Hope you feel better!

:) I started this whole process in Jan 06 and finally got banded 3/14/07. I was so psyched when approval came thru I started working out in Feb and lost 6 big ones. It only took 2 wks post Op to get back to my 30 min workout. Didn't find this website till April, though. Too bad for me. Awaiting first fill 5/3 and working out 35 min/daily. Loses more inches than Lbs. About 16 Post Op. So glad I did it. Just wish this dar garn back pains would leave.:D

Me too. It took 14 mos to get to banded. So worth the wait, don't you think? My first fill is 5-7-07. We are doing this side by side.

I pulled a muscle about 3 days after surgery. Apparently its fairly easy to do when you are recovering! The pain has been horrible, but 3 weeks later I'm starting to feel better. My surgeon says exercise will help.

I feel you on the weight loss. I've lost almost 15lbs since surgery. Now granted - I lost 50+ lbs BEFORE surgery, but I really thought I would have lost a little more since I've been eating less.

So I'm finding that I'm able to eat anything (including bread) at this point. I've been keeping everything in moderation, but I really thought I would have been able to eat less than I can. I can't wait to get my first fill. I have to wait until May 8th for my first fill ;)

Exactly four weeks ago today, I went under the knife to get my little lap band (or "lappy" as I call it) put in.

And now here I am, down another two pounds this week. Yeah, some will say it isn't much, but take two one pound boxes of butter and stick it on each hip and there you go! I guess things are slowing down a bit for now because I am starting to build some muscle from exercising. At least that is what I was told anyway.

Pre-surgery, my cholesterol was 181. Now it is 163. Heh. Blood pressure this morning was 110/63.

Total of pounds lost since surgery: 42

That's exactly what I've lost, too. But loss is loss and I'm happy.

Guess what???? I get to have a chicken suiza (chicken/avocado/sour cream enchilada covered with mole sauce!) tonight--three days before I'm supposed to start solids--with the dr.'s support ("NO chips, rice, or drink with the meal, though!!!"). Woohooooooo. Way to Celebrate my one-month bandiversary: with a few bites of my very favorite Mexican dish! In the words of my Grandson: "I just tan't wait."

Congrats on both your stats and your loss, Lori! You ROCK! And, yes, two pounds IS much!

Karen, that sounds delish!!!! Congratulations on all the weight loss victories. You guys are doing AWESOME!!! ;) Well, I am about to try my first solid food since my first fill on Monday. I am a little nervous! I am able to drink Water fine, but when I eat applesauce it goes down much slower and I can even hear/feel it gurgling as it goes down. I think I'm going to try a scrambled egg and see how that goes. Good thing is...I am not hungry! I could pass on Breakfast this morning, but I know I better eat something. Wish me luck!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
