Scar update... 4.5 months post op

Recommended Posts

Jane, thank you so much for your pics and the information you give on the plastics. I know I want the arm lift, breast lift and have my bra wings taken away and your pics make me even more sure that is the way to go. Your arm scars look so good, especially for 4.5 months out. I am an Irish girl like yourself and our skin ... well you know! Your pics give me hope. I have more to lose but will be looking at doing it soon. Thanks again Jane and you look beyond fabulous!

You look amazing!

Your scars have healed beautifully, you must be so pleased. Reinforces for me that I do want the cosmetics done when I see such a great result and hear how pleased you are with it.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. It is hard to find before and after pictures of a mini thigh lift surgery. You may not realize how helpful your information or pictures are, but I think I speak for the majority, THANKS,!!.

I tend to post mostly in the vets, plastics and band to sleeve forums. I like to share things that work since I have been obese (I HATE that word but it is the truth) most of my life and finally found my way "out" If I can help one single person find their way to being "normal" I would feel so .... happy. I am glad you noticed this and found it useful.

costco and Trader Joe's are my main sources as they are filled with Protein "bargains"

Thank you so much for sharing your costco finds, great information. You look amazing and by the smile on your face I'll bet you feel pretty amazing too. Congratulations on your success.

I need to get around to creating a before and after collage.

Sweetpee, I need to compliment you too. You have described very well how hard plastics really are over many posts. I LOVE my results.and am so glad I did it, but wow, it was no cake walk. You have accurately described how long it takes to be normal again.

Maybe it is better I didn't really know that in advance. .. haha

You MIGHT not need plastics. My advice to everyone is to not worry about excess skin during the weight loss phases.

I am being completely honest...being a healthy weight even with the skin issue is 1000 times better than obesety.

You look amazing!

I love that the you spotted me ad an Irish girl...Haha...what was the give away?

So just so you know, the whole bra wings (or commonly know as side boobs) are not easily resolved via plastics.

I didn't have an upper body lift so accept them...

I had very extensive plastics Oct 14 2013 by Dr Sauceda in Mexico - 4.5 months ago. Scar maturity varies alot by individual - genetics etc. I did use silicone strips but have stopped recently since they make me crazy... I am now using massage and lotions including mederma. I can't show the breast lift ones but they are essentially invisible since I only had the lollipop incision, no scarring under the breast.

This photo is in a cocktail dress with no Spanx or other flattening clothing... wow what a difference

One of these days I will get around to updated bikini pics to compare to my preop ones ...

Congratulations!

You look beautiful! I see your results, as well as some others and plastic surgery is probably in my future. I'm still concentrating on losing my weight right now. Can't wait to be thin and not to have the excess skin - I would probably give anything to look like that right now!

You look great! Keep posting, I love reading your updates! Hard to believe you got it all done at once. Wish I did. I feel off balance and now my thighs look even more humongous and my boobs seem bigger. Can't wait till I get the rest done. I want to look as good as you in that little black dress!

This is the link to the thread that tells all about my plastics journey in the early weeks. I have gotten a few PMs so thought I would post it so people can find it!

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/285839-two-weeks-from-plastics-progress-so-far/

I was afraid of the scars too... and yes I surely have them, but from a mental/emotional point of view they are NOTHING. They don't bother me at all, I don't even see them. I DO see how much my profile has changed so for me, it was really worth it. I think we all need to do that "math" in our head though because it is all about tradeoffs.

Plastics are no joke - it is a big deal - recovery takes a long time - I think you really need to want it for it to be worth it.

I came across this photo taken of me about 2 months prior to my plastics. No Spanx, and I definately have a melted snowman look going on. compare that to the photo taken in Feb in the cocktail dress... again, no spanx..

2 months pre plastics:

3 months post plastics - similar weight - maybe 5-8 pounds lighter but the skin is the difference

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play, and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
